There are flagstone floors and lots of rood panelling. There's an extensive menu with a range of full meals, and hot and cold sandwiches, and a good range of real ales. In our party the £10 Sunday Roast went down very well, with generous portions and huge Yorkshire puddings. The £12 veggie burger (minced mushroom) was very good and also generously portioned and cake with sweet potato chips and coleslaw. For s busy Sunday, service was very quick and friendly. So, not the cheapest venue but good value if you can manage the portions.

It is a bit pricey, but it's good quality, and Castleton is a big tourist trap, so kind of expected. Lovely atmosphere, and big leather sofas and a real fire mean it's very hard not to nod off after your dinner, especially when the resident cat comes and plinks on your lap : )

To be fair tho, the town doesnt have a great deal to offer in the way of tourist attractions, so they'd have to be doing a sterling job to make it seem more exciting! There is a large free car park behind the information centre so parking is no difficulty and being in the centre of town gives you the opportunity to investigate the rest of town once you've got your 'information'.

Looking for some reasonable accommodation just off the M6 to break my journey up, I came across this Premier Inn, which was very reasonably priced. It's based on a small out of town development with some chain restaurants nearby. I missed the entrance as the website doesn't make it clear it's on this development but a quick spin round the next roundabout and I was soon there. The building seemed very new on arrival and the staff confirmed that it's a new hotel. The room was lovely with large comfy bed, nice LCD telly and a futuristic bathroom The restaurant area was busy the next morning for breakfast but the staff worked quickly. The nice hot English breakfast was served buffet style. This place is a bargain at these prices and I'll be considering this place as a base the next time I go to Alton Towers.
