Not many facilities but a fairly friendly few staff who work here, these are localised trains stopping at all the small and major stations along the way. Davenport high street is 5 mins walk away if you need to hit any shops and there's a fairly decent range while nothing massively spectacular on the foodie side. I guess Funky Monkey is probably best option to get a coffee on the high street if you need a buzz in a hurry!

Large traditional and historic pub on the Main Street of Castleton. We stopped for Sunday lunch…read more The rambling interior has a central bar and several different seating areas, including a small seating area at the back. There are flagstone floors and lots of rood panelling. There's an extensive menu with a range of full meals, and hot and cold sandwiches, and a good range of real ales. In our party the £10 Sunday Roast went down very well, with generous portions and huge Yorkshire puddings. The £12 veggie burger (minced mushroom) was very good and also generously portioned and cake with sweet potato chips and coleslaw. For s busy Sunday, service was very quick and friendly. So, not the cheapest venue but good value if you can manage the portions.

It is a bit pricey, but it's good quality, and Castleton is a big tourist trap, so kind of expected. I've never used the Manchester shuttle, but then again I quite enjoy walking. However, Stockport…read morehas hills, so this bus is a nice idea. This handy little free shuttle bus can be picked up from the 300 bus stop in Stockport Bus Station every 12 minutes between 8am and 6.30pm Mondays to Saturdays and between 10.30am and 5.30pm on Sundays. Unless you're disabled, have a lot of shopping or are just damn lazy, you shouldn't need the shuttle to get from the bus station to the train station (5 minute walk) or to the main shopping area (another 5 minute walk). However, it could be useful if you want to get up the hill towards the Town Hall or Stockport College or in the other direction out to the Peel Centre (which just isn't the same after the death of Border's Books) or to the giant Tesco on the other side of the M60.

It's a sizeable hotel (with nearly 150 rooms) with all the ancillary facilities you'd expect: restaurant, gym, spa, conference rooms. A little dated on the exterior, but the interior was relatively modernised and it's a bit of a maze with the 'ground floor' facilities being located on multiple levels up and down staircases and lifts. Owned by the hotel chain Best Western, it's much more expensive than the average Premier Inn - a double room with breakfast included was £72, yet I didn't feel as though I was getting more quality. That being said, the parking was free and ample, staff were friendly, rooms were spotless, beds were comfortable and the breakfast options expansive and tasty. It was convenient for where we needed to be that evening but I'd prefer to stay somewhere equally as nice, but better value for money.

You had to book the dinner in advance so no spontaneous decisions about that. Limited selections on the menu and the service was slow. The food was descent. The front desk staff was also top notch and fetched me a European to UK power adapter as I had managed to forget mine. The gal even remembered my name when i returned it the next day. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was a buffet and somewhat average. Not good - not bad. Adequate for our needs. All in all, a good stay with adequate and clean facilities.
