This salon is a complete scam. I canceled my appointment 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE, yet I am still being charged a FEE FOR MY WHOLE APPOINTMENT SERVICE. To make it worse, January 1st -- the day I tried to call to cancel -- nobody was answering the whole day , so I literally had no way to reach them. After this, Alexis, the manager, contacted me and instead of taking responsibility or fixing the issue, tried to pressure me into still going through my appointment with Sam. That alone is unprofessional, but it didn't stop there. Alexis then attempted to charge my credit card anyway, despite knowing I canceled appropriately. They are now trying to charge me OVER $400 for a service they DID NOT PROVIDE. I have already filed a complaint with my credit company and will be reporting them to consumer affairs as well. They refuse to accept any responsibility and instead blame the customer. I was even shamed for having rescheduled once in the past, which is an extremely common and normal thing people do. The way this was handled was aggressive, judgmental, and completely inappropriate. Also, they attempt to discredit negative reviews by claiming they "can't look up reviewer names or business information," as if that makes reviews fake or meaningless. That is obviously misleading, especially on platforms like Yelp or Google where people often use different names. Do not let them trick you. This situation has caused me serious financial stress over charges that should have never existed in the first place. Between the unfair fees, attempted charges, refusal to take accountability, and gaslighting about reviews, this is hands down the worst salon experience I've ever had. I will be spreading the word. Save yourself the stress and go anywhere else and do not bother reading their response to this review. read more

I've been going to Kinhouse for over 15 years - from the incredible staff, to the chic salon space and above all the, incredible haircuts (and there have been many different styles I've received over the years) - are all the reasons I keep on coming back. I couldn't recommend Kinhouse more highly...worth the trip to SoHo (make a day of it) for those out of town, and for those in NY, make the switch to Kinhouse, you won't regret it! read more

Probably the rudest person on the phone Ive ever spoken with. such a passive aggressive tone over booking an appointment. I have never felt less welcomed over trying to just book a hair appointment - there is no need to be so judgy and rude. Please do better with the person who makes appointments on the phone. Having someone who is kind and friendly over the phone while booking an appointment is so important in order to feel welcomed into a business. My stylist canceled on me and I was in need of a blow out and press badly. u have 22 inches of extensions and textured hair. Ang and Mel tag teamed me at the last minute at 7pm and finished up after closing time to ensure my hair came out well. it came out beautiful and I liked that the asked me what products and flat iron settings are typically used in my texture! I've been going to Miranda for color and haircuts, and I couldn't be happier! She is an absolute artist when it comes to hair. Miranda listens carefully to what I want and somehow always manages to exceed my expectations. TERRIBLE experience with owner and absolutely abysmal customer service. Been coming here for years to see Miranda and have always had an amazing experience with her but recently had a terrible experience with the owner of Kinhouse, Jamie. She did not disclose updated pricing to me (an incremental $200 vs what I've been paying for the past 3 years of coming here with no real explanation of why they're suddenly charging $200 more other than the fact that their new color line has k18 in it? Nice...), charged me for a mask I did not request nor did I receive and then refused to get on the phone with me for over an WEEK after the fact (had to call back everyday until she called me back and offered no solution other than to gaslight me and offer me a treatment for my trouble? No thanks) This is also after I was incorrectly charged TWICE back in July and was only rectified when I noticed the double charge at the end of the month. Horrific experience and left in tears - will absolutely never be back and wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

Dani is absolutely amazing and is unlike any hairstylist I've ever had. I found Dani through a hair competition (Hair Awards USA). I was looking for someone who dyes hair fantasy colors, but not in the ways I see all the time online. Instead of just doing ombre or single strands of color, Dani carves out shapes and makes illusions out of your hair. My first haircut had 3 long stripes across my head. After that we had checkers and now I have multiple layers of shapes so there's visual intrigue as my hair moves. Dani is an expert in her field and in all facets of hair. If you don't like fantasy colors, she got your back. She has worked multiple fashion editorials, teaches all aspects of hair, and has consistently been nominated for multiple awards. Update - I had hoped Lucas or the salon would do the respectable thing and get me either my money or the extensions back so we could resolve the issue. Unfortunately, it's been three weeks since my review and I still have not received the extensions. What I have received was threats from Lucas (please see attached text excerpt) and no response to my numerous requests for a tracking number given that he states he sent them but I have not received them. He was very angry that I left a review but yet hasn't remedied the situation. My review still stands. Exercise caution when dealing with this stylist. Another Update- Almost a month later, Lucas has now blocked me after multiple unanswered requests for the tracking number. It's an absolute pain to have to file in small claims court against Lucas and Kinhouse, but unfortunately I'm now in a position where I have to. read more
