This is a terrible gas station !!!! If there was a chance to give it a negative star I would! My family and I stop here to get gas and use the restroom. Inside the store the employee are just sitting down and just on there phones . I went inside to use the restroom and I saw that there were 2 bathrooms and one saids "employees only " and then the other one said Restroom . I was waiting and waiting to use the restroom and the person did not come out . At this point I was about to pee myself . I went to ask the lady with a red apron on if I can kindly use the restroom and she said no. Even through I was fidgeting and trying to hold it in . She said "no it's just for employees ". And said I just had to wait . I was only going to pee for a few seconds and she said "no and No and no ." It really didn't cost her any thing to just open the restroom so I can use it . I was only going to use it for a few seconds it's not like I was going to make a mess or destroyed the restroom. The customer service here was terrible and the people are extremely rude. **************NOT GOOD PEOPLE************** ********AVOID KINGVALE SHELL AT ALL COSTS*********** My son and I were caught in an extreme and unexpected snow storm on Monday 5/9/22 and forced to exit the highway at the Kingvale Exit late at night by Caltrans due to chain control. The roads were so treacherous. We had to be rescued and parked the car at the Kingvale Shell around midnight with the plan to retrieve the car the next morning when the weather cleared. It was parked responsibly and not in the way of anything. Who would have thought it would snow like that in May! The Kingvale Shell was closed so I left a note on the dash with my phone number and an explanation of the situation. When I returned after the weather cleared the next day, I found the Kingvale Shell had my car towed by 5 Star Towing early Tuesday morning before I could get back up there from Reno to retrieve my car. I have probably filled my tank at this Kingvale Shell 50 times or more over the years. The cost to get my car back from 5 Star Towing was $1,050.00. Yes, you read that right, $1,050!!!!!!!!!!! Completely a shitty and nasty thing to do to someone in need of safe harbor. 5 Star Towing is not any better. They completely gouged on pricing. The entire thing was unnecessary. You can ship a car to Chicago for $1,000. In the old days, service stations were there to help motorists! Being parked on the property overnight did not cause any harm and especially under the circumstances due to the extreme weather - and to do that to a customer. I am a business owner myself and would never treat my customers this way!!! Unbelievable!!!! I personally will never use this gas station again and would encourage you to pass the exit as well. I plan to post and share my experience with the Kingvale Shell anywhere I can. People need to know how they approach business. I don't mind waiting in a line as I know it is a very busy gas station but the person working there today was so rude. He kept leaving the store which meant the line got longer. He came back in once and yelled at someone to move their car because they weren't getting gas... Problem was she was at the end of the line and needed to pay first. He was so rude and inconsiderate. I had a good experience here. There was a sudden and unexpected snowstorm while crossing Donner Pass. I paid $40 to install chains at Cisco Grove (7.2 miles west); and one was installed incorrectly, coming off (that's a separate story, of course). Even though I had to wait through a long line, in 27 degree weather, the installer man (one of two) did fix the previous bad installation, and I was on my way. Installation here was $30; which is ten bucks *less* expensive than at Cisco Chevron, plus the installation was done correctly. Sidenote ... while standing in line, the other people in line were very friendly, and we all had a good talk waiting our turns. This made the hour in line pass faster. read more

Poor excuse for a stop in the summer unless you need gas - Bare minimum - space between pumps not really adequate for 2 cars, bathrooms in poor condition, gas pumps sometimes only take debit or the shell loyalty card- In the winter lots of space to put on snow chains and they sometimes stock them, but again overall services available is minimal read more

So we were driving to Royal Gorge and Truckee for some skiing action in a rental car, a big red rear wheel drive Charger rental car. This is how I learned about cars, don't rent a rear wheel drive to drive in the snow. Beautiful flakes were coming down and romantic and all. Oh wait, it's coming down hard, oh wait, looks like it's dumping down. Great since we needed lots of snow as we did not have any for a few days... But wait, we do not have tire chains because we were taking a chance not wanting to buy chains for a rental... Robotic AM radio was announcing the warning of chains. Dark roads, no nothing. We finally found a local general store but they did not carry the chains for our rental car. This is where I learned about all the tires and how chains are so specific from one car to another and there's no one-size-fits-all, size definitely does matter! But the store was kind enough to point us to Kingvale Shell and over the phone without even looking at the books they had the right chains. We hurried over there. Don't be fooled by the guy who's just a cashier. He knew his stuff. Instead of taking out the chains for us, he filled out the form / invoice right the way, his confidence overwhelmed us and within a minute he came out with the right chains and the rubber rings that help position the chains. Kingvale Shell, especially the guy who looks like he had worked in the military, saved our trip because the snow did come down really hard that we were not even able to get out of the parking lot the following day and definitely fully utilized the chains once we did. Big Bright Five Stars for the excellent service when we're in the dark, desperately. read more

Friend: "I'll bring the chains just in case. We won't need them, but I'm bringing them." Me: "Oh, how wonderful, it's snowing and raining and it's dark. Where are the chains?" Friend: "Dammit! I forgot them." And just like that, Caltrans issued a chain requirement and just like that we forked over $69 for chains and $20 for installation. I have to admit there's nothing wrong with the fine folks at Kingvale Shell. The cashier was a friendly, older gal, who quickly looked up the size we needed, rang us up and lined us up with an installer. The installer was a pro and had them on in less than 10 minutes and we were on our way. The most frustrating thing was paying $90 when we already got through the worst part. The few miles where chains required was nothing. A little rain with a bit of snow flakes here and there. And once we got into Reno, we stopped at a 7-11 and did a price comparison and the chains were $35. Lesson learned. read more

Just wanted to fill up, but No, that seems to be impossible at this place, unless of course you know exactly how many gallons or the exact dollar amount your car needs. We pulled in to this Shell on July 31, 2014, at about 5:00 PM, the card reader at the pump instructed me to "see the cashier", so I walked in. I waited for about 5 minutes while the cashier negotiated a sale for some Copenhagen tobacco to another customer. Ok, I am a patient person.... Finally, the cashier acknowledged me and I explained that the pump told me to "see the cashier". (By the way, there is nothing wrong with my credit card) I asked what I had to do to fill up. He told me that unless I could tell him how much gas it would take, he could not complete the transaction. After a few more attempts at trying to reason with this guy, I left. We arrived at the next gas station down the road, ran the card through the pump 's card reader, filled the tank and proceeded home. Normally something like that wouldn't bother me much, but the station clearly has no clue on the basics of selling fuel. read more

Stopped for gas knowing there would be a gouge in the mountains just off the freeway, but the warning light came on and figured why chance it. It was a beautiful August evening and I was on my motorcycle. After gassing up I went in and asked the clerk if I could get a cup of ice (with my own cup) from the soda machine. He politely said he'd have to charge me $.25. Less than 5 miles in either direction there are other stations. I will be stopping at one of those stations in the future. A price premium of $.50 a gallon and they want to charge for a cup of ice, not smart. read more

If you're leaving the Truckee area and are low on gas, wait till you get to Kingvale to fill up. It's generally a bit cheaper than Truckee proper. Even if you have enough gas to get you down the hill it's never a bad idea to keep your tank full on those rare occasions where there's an accident that will keep you idle on the hill for hours. Plus there's a small sledding/tubing area nearby if you really need to entertain those hyper kids. read more

We were headed to San Francisco Ca. today Wed. 6-5-19 and had one mile to go before we ran out of diesel fuel so we stop at King vale shell to see if they had some diesel unfortunately they didn't and the closest place was miles away so this young man (DILLON) jump in to help us he called a couple of people's but they couldnt help at the time but...the young man (DILLON) didnt give up he called his manger ( FRANK) at the other store and ask if he could help by bring us diesel fuel so Mr. Frank was kind enough to bring us some and to top it off Mr. Frank made it there in 10 min. and helped wit any assistance we needed as to where we could go to get diesel and a short cut ( we made it there and on our way out thks Mr. Frank) THANK U DILLON AMD MR. FRANK O and it was a young lady in the store with Dillon but I didnt get her name so thk u all for the hospitality and going over and beyond to help visitors stranded in Soda Spring Ca. VERY BAD ATTITUDE N RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE by the lady working there!!! 4 pumps n ONLY 2 were working. Either they were broken or she DIDN'T know how to operate the computer controlling the pumps. When we told her that the pump didn't work, she SHOUTED BACK IT WORKED like we were idiots. By the 4th try and complaint, she then said IT'S BROKEN! Next customer came and it repeated again and again. We were stuck there for 35 minutes and waiting in line for the 2 working pumps! Any ANGRY/EMOTIONAL person should not be working in a gas station!
