Peach red bull
Denise C.

This was a decent pitstop on a Tahoe SF drive. I didn't need to go to the bathroom. I wanted a drink and picked a peach Red Bull, which turned out to be $4 and I flinched and said oh well. Someone got a sandwich that he devoured and the driver got gas...so here's to our Tahoe pitstops.

Gas pumps and store to the left
Mel J.

Stopped here for a pit stop on our way back to Reno from California during a wet afternoon - CalTrans was out in full force flexing its muscle, stopping traffic on a whim, requiring chains, not requiring chains, and the like. Those of you who rush to the Sierra mountains from Northern California on the news of snow must know what I'm talking about. At any rate, I was glad for this location and happily joined several people waiting in line for the unisex restrooms (they have 2), while my husband put in gas. The store is quite small but people in line were polite and workers were accommodating. Afterwards, I really wanted a cup of hot green tea, but the only choices were Apricot Green and Lemon something; I chose the Apricot Green - apricot smell was overwhelming. Wish they had just plain old green or even black tea. Also grabbed a hostess treat then we were on our way.

My expired drink!
Chet B.

The cashier seemed like he was having a bad day... and the other patrons seemed to be in a hurry. We bought a naked protein drink and we realized about three swings of juice down that it is expired... be careful when buying food and drinks to see what the dates are.

Red light.

The Mexican place has limited hours. I haven't tried it yet, but when I do, I will write a review. The convenience store and the gas is open 24 hours. There is a post office here, but there is no counter service. It's primarily. P.O. Box and mail pick up by local residents. They do have a 24 hour mail drop, with pick up in the early morning. The convenience store is nice. It's clean, and the people are friendly. I like the decorations in the store. It has your usual. Beer, wine, food, snack, snacks, sundries, and it also has a small hardware section, which a good amount is winter gear. It has a small but nice souvenir section as well. Prices are pretty typical on some items, and then on others, they are a bit higher. I got an amazing beef jerky, and the price was reasonable for what I got They do sell chains in the winter time, but believe me, you are going to pay for them. There's plenty of parking, including truck and RV parking. There's also a popular snow park in the winter time. The elephant in the room, is, of course, the gas prices. You are pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with only a few gas stations in the immediate area, so you are definitely going to pay for gas. The best thing to do is fill up in Sacramento, Auburn, or Reno. The gas in Colfax and Truckee is a bit higher, but still well below what they charge here. I like this store. I will be back. Thank you.

I'm traveling in my own personal vehicle leading the rest of my crew in the big rental Suburban carrying all our equipment. I know there's a Chevron right at the first exit at the bottom of Donner pass hill dropping into Truckee. Better watch you speed coming down that hill, its easy to get going way too fast! I call my guys to tell them I gotta stop, so we take the first exit and go through the round abouty thingy and the station is right there. All the chevron stations seem like they renamed the convivence stores to Power Markets. Whatever, it's still carries all the road food you need and restrooms as well. What I like about this location is it's super fast on and off the 80, easy to get back on the freeway! Service was fine, just don't get gas here unless you really have to, prices are off the charts high, like holy shit high! Restrooms were clean this time and the crew all used them as well as got some more road food. I think I can make it to the hotel now!

DO NOT BUY SNOW CHAINS FROM THEM - SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES…read more Rude, shady business practices. stopped on our way to Reno, NV and employees were telling everyone there was a chain control ahead. It was very busy and they were pushing sales of their snow chains. My mistake was listening in the first place. Bought the chains, $140. First tensioner broke, had it exchanged. They were happy to exchange that... put chains on and drive off. @25mph 5 miles down the road, one of the chains break. To make matters worse, there was no chain control. We all were dupped. Returned to at least exchange the chains for a nonbroken set. Was rudely told off, rude employee even tried to tell me how business works, even though I have a business degree. Points to a VERY tiny sign that says all sales final. Looked up price of the chains we bought, $50. Figures. Shady business, creating panic to sell a cheap item with a 200% mark up then hide behind a small sign that no one can see so they can keep all the money. I just want an exchange so i can actually use what i paid for. But now i would be happy with a refund as i never want to see these shady excuses of human beings again. OH, she even stupidly admitted in front of other customers that here have been several other customers complaining about their chains breaking after a short drive.

Great little gas station and mini mart…read more We were on our way to Hell Hole Reservoir. Stopped here to use the bathroom because I'm particular about where I pee. I'm not one to just pull over to the side of the road and pee in the bushes. I don't like to pee outside. I don't even pee in the ocean. I'm particular where I pee. This place is way up in the mountains, and as it turned out, exactly where you need a bathroom to be if you had multiple cups of coffee before you left Sacramento, as I had done. So happy to discover this gas station does have a public restroom. It's in a small building separate from the mini mart. It was clean and tidy, qualities we all appreciate in a public restroom. After taking care of business and washing my hands I popped into the Mini Mart to spend some money. I didn't actually need anything, I had snacks in the car. But when I stop at a little mom and pop operation like this I always try to spend some cash. I want this place to still be in business next time I'm passing through. The Mini Mart has mad snacks! Including many of my favorites, like Chili Cheese Fritos, Chicharrones, Trail Mix, Chex Mix and Pretzels. They had about ten or fifteen different kinds of Sunflower Seeds. Some weird ass flavored ones too. For example: Taco Supreme flavor, Zesty Ranch flavor, Dill Pickle favor, Jacked Pepper flavor, Takis Fuego Flavor, and BBQ flavor. For a hot minute I considered trying one of those bizarro flavors. I eventually decided to just get a bag of regular old David Original Jumbo seeds. My same old, same old. Maybe someday I'll try one of those exotic flavors. But probably not. Oh, and I love that the self service soda fountain featured Pepsi products, Love me a Pepsi with my Sunflower Seeds. In fact, there's a veritable plethora of drink options in this Mini Mart. In addition to the self serve soda fountain, there's also a slushie-type machine with two flavors (red and blue). They even have one of those push button automated Espresso machines. The Mini Mart is stocked to serve the local community as well as travellers passing through. Shelves were stocked with everything from pet food to BBQ supplies. You need Folgers Coffee, French's Mustard, Del Monte Ketchup? Top Ramen, Campbell's Soup, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese? Toilet Paper, Motor Oil, Insect Repellant? You need a Gas Can? You can find it all here at the Forresthill Valero Mini Mart. And I was impressed that the price of gas here wasn't that much higher than it was in Sacramento. So, yeah, I'm a big fan of Foresthill Valero. I especially appreciate that they provide a public restroom. I was happy show my appreciation by spending a few bucks Mikey C says: Forresthill Valero, 5 Stars all damn day!
