High Quality & Healthy Options in Whiteville!…read more I stopped by Penn's Grill around 9:30 AM and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is calm and inviting with lovely local decor, and the staff is incredibly friendly. My waitress was very helpful in navigating the menu, which is surprisingly customizable. I ordered an egg white omelet with steak and cheese, and it was hands down the best-tasting egg white dish I've ever had--the seasoning was perfect! The steak was tender and juicy, and the homemade old-country style hashbrowns are a must-try. While the prices might seem a little high at first glance, the quality of the food absolutely justifies it. It's hard to find places in Whiteville that accommodate healthier breakfast options this well. Highly recommend!

Needing to pass through this little town on our way to Asheville, and reading the 3-star reviews…read morehere on Yelp, we decided to give them a chance. Walking in, it raised many memories of my youth: not fancy or particularly clean (especially the restrooms) yet greeted by pleasant smiles, friendly servers & staff, always more important to me/us! Our server was quick with taking and returning with our drink orders. She followed with attention to the time we needed to decide on our orders. Further, she was one of only 2 servers of a completely full dining room! I'm so disappointed I didn't get her name...I just didn't want to interrupt her industrious focus. Each of the 4 of us ordered a brunch item: eggs, omelette, and waffle with either country ham, bacon, sausage and/or grits, and coffee, that my husband stated "was the BEST!" A disappointment I do have is the condition of the restroom. It neglects an opportunity to reflect the positive qualities of the "front of the house" yet, we would return to Waffle International if ever passing through again.

Pulling up to this place you can tell that this is visibly a hole in the wall restaurant. The outside looked tired (old) and is not appealing to customers. But, it was still busy, as this is cited as the "best breakfast" in Whiteville. That is undeniably subjective. When you walk in you will notice that most things look dirty (except your table). The floor is sticky, the bathrooms are dirty, and the paint on the wall is peeling. It is also dark on the inside (poor lighting). Our food took about an hour to get to our table. My waffle was actually great, meanwhile my eggs and bacon and all of my dad's food were cold. This is because our server left our food that came out first sitting instead of giving it to us, and waited for my waffle to come out. We would have rather had that food first while it was hot, and I would have been fine with getting my waffle afterwards. That was disappointing. What bumps it up to 2 starts instead of 1 is the service. Our server was nice, and frequently checked on ALL of her tables.

The door entrance is very welcoming with flowers and outside shaded seating. Orders are taken at one end of the counter (near entry door) and picked up at the other end of counter. Bathrooms are kept locked, and are entered from the outside (but it was clean). They have a drive-through which keeps them very busy. It took about 12 minutes for my single sandwich order to be ready but the staff was friendly and apologetic for the delay while they were hustling to fill orders, so I can't complain. It was obvious they were busy and working hard. My sub was made to order and tasted good.

It took us a while to our sandwiches (4 cheese melt and steak melt) but the staff were very patient and answered all our questions. We decided to eat outside and our food was delivered with a smile. Bread was thick and nicely browned, like Texas toast. 4 cheeses included pepper Jack which was a surprise, and may have been mentioned. That cheese was also in the steak, and that was fine. Steak was strictly ok, not a lot of meat taste but nice consistency. Added mushrooms were plentiful and tasty. Both sandwiches were large enough to fill hungry travelers. Overall I'm glad we stopped and tried Sun-sational. If we once again find ourselves in Whiteville I would stop and try something else, because all the sandwiches looked creative and a good value. Recommended!

It is a casual restaurant and seems to bring in a lot of regulars. If you are dining in, you seat yourself, and a waitress will bring a menu. You order at the counter if it is to go. Service was friendly and attentive. All of the staff were welcoming and made me feel like I belonged. Dale's serves old-style Calabash seafood; steaks, soups and salads make up the menu. I went with boiled shrimp, not knowing how large the portion would be. It came with sides and a trip to the salad bar. It was a lot of food. The baked potato was amazing and large with extra butter. I'm not normally a fan of coleslaw, but this I would have loved more. Seasoning for the shrimp was on the table so you could season it how you like. Then they were generous with the hush puppies, too. I took most of the shrimp with me and was even given a cup of tea to go. Even though it was raining, I did walk out to the water. The soft, hazy view was kind of peaceful. I am sure it is beautiful in drier conditions too. The state is currently in a drought, so I appreciated the rain.

The last few takeout orders have been rather disappointing and the most recent order was a total disappointment. The tacos I ordered this time were very skimpy. They also neglected to include my rice and beans and other side items that accompany the tacos. The other dish that was ordered for my wife did have her rice and beans but when I tasted the beans I was glad I didn't get any. They had a badly burnt taste indicating they had burnt severely in the pot and they had salvaged what they could with no regard for what they might taste like. We also had the beef dip which has queso, but it was bland, thin and watered down. It appears that this restaurant is going downhill fast. It's a shame to see the decline in quality at a restaurant, that at times has been really good.
