They lose a star right off the bat for the lack of hot water for showers. After swimming or spending time outside, a lukewarm shower just doesn't cut it. The indoor waterpark itself is nice, with bright lighting and a great area for small toddlers. They allowed kids on the big slides, which our children loved. The staff was friendly, but they couldn't answer basic questions--like whether life jackets were available (they are), what time the waterpark opened (9:30 on weekends), or how to get there (go to level 2 or 3 and at the end of the hall there is an elevator you can take to level 1 without having to go outside). The water could be a tad bit warmer as well. Our 2 yr old had to get out multiple times due to shivering so bad due to temp) The beds were comfortable, but the rooms are definitely outdated. The park nearby was great along with open grass area. I really want this place to succeed. There aren't a lot of options for indoor water parks or things to do without having to travel 6-7 hours from us so this is convenient. Overall it's clean and offers a lot to do without having to leave the resort. Just please get hot water for the showers, train your staff on easy questions people might ask them about the resort and spruce up the decor. read more

Super late check in time - I called to make my reservation directly with the hotel since there was a block of rooms for our party. super outdated rooms - decor was awful, uncomfortable beds, for the price in off season, not worth it at all! The tile in the bathroom was cracked, right where you would stand in front of the bathroom sink. My mattress pad had holes everywhere and the sheets barely fit the bed. You don't even get a comforter, I had two thin sheets to sleep with and that was all. There was a giant red stain on the carpet (I tried to tell myself it WASN'T blood). went to the water park for a little tan session before work. Been coming here every day of every summer years since I was a kid. Showed up wearing a standard bikini that met the guidelines and rules required. Was asked to leave because some white woman couldn't stand that her husband wants a 16 year old more than her saggy tit ahh. Her excuse being that her kids are around and shouldn't be looking at girls with body that's tea. No babes it's cuz your husband loves to look at minors. The last two visits have been disappointing. Before todays visit, a couple years ago, we thought we would stay and celebrate of a kids birthday at the park. We have stayed several times in previous years. This time the place was run down, some of the indoor waterpark equipment was broken and off limits, some was open, but only worked "occasionally". Today, taking off on a whim to drive up and use the outdoor and indoor waterpark, and planning to stay... we arrive only to find out the waterpark was closed. I am really tossing between 2-3 stars but settled for the 3 for the overall experience. We choose to come here for the pool(s) as my son loves to swim. Check in is as 4 pm and out is 11am . I wish I would of asked sooner but you can swim the day of while waiting for your room . They don't advertise that on their website but you can. Check in was a breeze but that was about the only interaction we had with staff and only one staff member spoke to us after that ( housekeeping associate was friendly in the hall way) . All the other staff was not really rude but definitely not friendly and we felt ignored. Early the next morning while getting coffee the associates were too busy talking to each other then to offer a quick hello. They went out do their way to not make eye conduct not only noticed by myself but the gentleman who was in front of me. The room itself could use updating , the office chair at the table was broke and fairly wobbly , the carpet needs to be replaced as it's rather worn. The beds were comfortable enough and the bathroom was bigger then anticipated. I like the deep bath but they didn't have grasp handles to get out which made it a chore taking a shower after the swim. Don't expect a comfy chair in the room as there was none but did have a spot where one should be . Leads me to believe they had some at one point. We were on the main floor , no ice machines , and you had to go up to level 2, down the hallway , and back down the elevator to access the pool . You had to check in to use the pool but honestly the staff ignored us , didn't check our bands so anyone could walk in. I had a feeling some of the kids at the pool unsupervised did just that but it's on the management team to care. The indoor pool area was fine but definitely could use a makeover , repainted or updated . There was a large amount of flies in the area but it could be because of all the food trash on the tables the staff didn't clean up . We were in the water area for over 2 hours and it was never cleaned . One lifeguard walked around inside and 2 were on the outside . Not sure what the protocols are for pools but it didn't seem enough , I saw 2 of them standing inside yapping for a while before switching spots and not watching the kids. A bit concerning . Water was cold inside which is usually a giving with inside pools so wasn't a concern. We did like the outdoor pool ( don't choose seats by the lake or you will be smelling it) . It was nice and the water a bit warmer due to the heat of the sun. Was not crowded which was nice . Definitely a high chlorine level which I read on multiple reviews , you would hope they eventually get it right . Hotel says they have a gift shop but really there is just a few snacks , one shirt in a display case and a few little trinket toys for kids not really a gift shop, was hoping to buy a souvenir to take home but there wasn't any. Got charged $20 more then my email said it was going to be for the hotel stay , keep an eye on your bill sounds like they have done this before. Honestly this resort could be fantastic if they cleaned it up a bit , trained their staff on how to interact with guest and added some "fun " things to do after 7 pm when the pools closed ( really 7 pm is awful early especially on the inside pool) . Pool didn't open until 11 am the next day , conveniently the check out time , I asked my son if he wanted to swim before we left but he didn't really want to . I don't think we would go out of our way to go back but wouldn't avoid it , for over $200 for one night there are other places to go that offer more . read more

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!! Waste of money and time. Nothing ever works they don't accommodate anyone for they're ugly behavior. The fire alarms have been going off twice throughout one week they don't know how to control the issue made everyone evacuate had fire men come to try and solve the issue which was an employee pulling the fire alarm and not knowing how to shut it off. The staff is rude cleaning ladies suck only come at their convenience and lie saying they knocked and tried to get into the room when they did not. The elevators never work. No stove or oven to cook The food in the restaurant is the only thing worth being here for. DO NOT STAY HERE! People have also tried to enter my room around 12pm thank god for the bolt lock on the door if not I'm not sure what wouldve happen. Over all it's unsafe not fun and I'm sure a shittier hotel would be just as good with service and rapport. Probably even better. None of the rooms we needed were available due to reconstruction bc of a busted water pipe who knows how long it's been that way for. Not impressed. I simply went to order a pretzel & slice of pizza from the concession stand, the pizza I was told would not be ready for 15-20 minutes. I ordered the pretzel alone, waited 16 minutes before asking if I was overlooked or maybe missed - was then handed a cold pretzel with warm cheese (yay!) within under 2 minutes. We were at the Water Park and preparing to leave. My young son and I were in the men's room shower when a strange woman walked in. We dashed to cover ourselves while she glared at us. I told her it was the men's room, and she said "my son is special needs, I can be in here". We had to hide behind our towels till the were done. I reported this to staff and the only reply I got was "we need to accommodate those with special needs, sir". I'm all for reasonable accomodations, but letting a stranger of the opposite sex surprise you in the shower is too far. Staff need to brush up on what the Americans with Disabilities Act allows. read more

Thin walls.... I stayed 3 nights and the hotel was not very full. Night #2, there was a couple people plopped next door. I could hear every word, cough, etc. Night #3, there was a gymnastics meet straight above my room. I didn't call and complain as that isn't my normal MO. It was obviously a young child that was having a good time. Only question I have is why didn't they spread out the guests a little more as there were only likely 20 guests in the whole place. The price was not what was quoted and almost double because they had to change our room and charge us more when they made the mistake at time of reservation. Overpriced not worth it at all. I could have taken my family to KC and had a better room and rate. Room layout is a waste of space, even with restrictions from city fire code. Staff were very rude and not helpful. Shabby and mis-managed. I heard the resort is owned by the City of Storm Lake and that would explain why the place looks like no money has been put into maintaining the place. The carpets in the hallways are stained, there are cracked tiles and peeling wall paper in the rooms and while we were there the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night (twice in 3 days) and not a word of explanation or apology from anyone at the resort. The restaurant is understaffed by untrained help and sporadically/randomly closes for "maintenance". We understand that COVID has created staffing shortages, but that is only one of the problems here. This place needs to be overhauled and run by a company who knows hotel management. read more

From the outside King's Point Hotel looks lovely and inviting.... but the inside is something entirely different! The actual rooms aren't too bad, they were spacious and clean. That said, the common areas were absolutely filthy!!! The carpets in all areas were covered with large stains. The wood floors in restaurant area were so dirty and sticky, your shoes stuck!! The inside of public restroom door was black and grimy. The entrance door from out door eating area covered with bird poop and parts of old nests. The real slap in the face is they charge you $229/nite ( street view, no less) to stay in this dirty place! I can honestly say it's the filthiest place I have ever stayed!!! So our church thought it was a great idea too take the children too King's Pointe. After a little fun in the water the children complain of not feeling well and they all started vomiting. Turns out there was an over use of their pool clorine and it made the children sick. Now weeks before that my friend took a whole van load of children up there too celebrate a birthday. The exercise room has weights, 2 stationary bikes, 2 semi recumbent bikes, and two treadmills. And they all are in good working condition. Staff is friendly. We were extremely disappointed in our stay at Kings Pointe during thanksgiving week. We found out when we arrived that since it is the winter months the INDOOR water park is only open on the weekends. Even if you stay for a week and are able to go to the water park you have to pay EXTRA on top of your regular room. The rooms are ridiculously overpriced. The beds were uncomfortable the pillows were so worn out they had to have been at least 10 years old. No comforter or heavy blanket just sheets and a scratchy blanket. The in room coffee was rarely refilled when the room was cleaned. The rooms were really poorly lit. Also, there is no complimentary breakfast you have to order room service or go to the grille (on top of the other charges). Oh and be advised if you're military they do offer a discount only if you tell them when you book, however they don't offer an option to select that when you book a reservation online. I was told you don't need a AAA account to get the 10% discount, so anyone can click that to get that rate, because they won't fix the rate after you check in. Really not worth the price, I would suggest finding another place or even town to stay in. read more

Took the family to kings pointe on 3/23/13, what a disappointment it was after paying $60 to get in this is what we got for our money. The water was freezing cold, kids swam off and on for about an hour and wanted to go home cause they were cold. We took 2 laps around the lazy river and got out cause it was so cold. When the boys went into the mens locker room to change the found someone had smeared poop on the walls and floor in the stalls. I am from the storm lake area so i asked other parents about the water temp. thinking maybe it was a bad day or a break down, they all said its been that way all winter, nobody at the resort seems to care if its cold or not, i was told by several to go to the college pool to swim or the other motels swimming pool in storm lake if we wanted warm water. Next time i guess we will go to the lakes area or rent a room in a hotel and swim there. read more

You can have a lot of fun when staying here. The only thing that's making this four stars is that at night it's hard to sleep when kids are running around and the lobby is playing music at 3 o'clock in the morning. Spent a Saturday evening here before watching a friend's son play a soccer game at the local college, Buena Vista. Rooms were very comfortable and clean, be sure to get one with a lakeview! Gorgeous setting, especially from the third floor balcony. Had breakfast buffet at the Regatta restaurant on property, only barely average. Don't order the buffet, get it made fresh! Coffee on the entire property is woefully poor, let's face it, Folgers just does not cut it anymore! They have a beautiful outdoor patio lakeside, with a gas fireplace. We asked them to fire it up, but NO! Very poor customer service! There was another table out there on Saturday evening, plus a large wedding reception going on. People would have really appreciated it! Missed opportunity here! read more

My husband and I took a staycation to the Kings Pointe Resort in September. Upon arrival, it is simply stunning and you can see that it will be a fun time. We enjoyed walking around the resort, eating at the Regatta Grille and being kids at the indoor waterpark. The biggest pitfall of this resort is the attention to cleanliness. It is not terribly dirty, but when the resort is so new, I cannot believe it was so unkept. There are torn pieces of wallpaper that need to be tended to, there are splatters of 'something' on the walls of the hotel room. This show of laziness continued into the restaurant, which had food on the floor and something on the booth seats. The main lobby of the hotel is very well upkept, but somehow doesn't get continued into the hallways and rooms. On the second day of our stay, housekeeping did not stop by and we needed to call for towels and tp. I typically expect these things to be done, especially when we were out of the room a majority of the day. The indoor waterpark is the main reason we made the trip to Storm Lake. It was one of the smaller indoor waterparks we've been to, but it is efficient and had three slides. We played around for an hour each time, and really enjoyed how quiet it was. Overall, we won't be back soon, but it was a fun trip. read more

The bed & pillows were comfortable, although one of the two beds was clearly meant to be a trampoline for children. The lake view was nice, but the majority of our view included a rocky roof. The rest was "meh" to awful. The wifi was crap. If you're staying here & planning to work, be prepared. I had better service turning off the wifi & using my one tiny bar of nonexistent Sprint service. The food in the restaurant was ok. The bar tender flat out ignored us. There is also no option to just get a room with no added water park/golf. We knew we wouldn't have time for either, but had to pay for it regardless. But the most important #1 complaint was the water temp in our room. The water in the sink, shower & toilet was BOILING HOT. You could not shower or wash your hands without risking 3rd degree burns. When we told the front desk they said they were aware of the problem & fixed it previously by running the sink for 3 hours. What?! They offered us $25 credit to the bar. Then I requested a late check out time and my request was refused. I have never been refused a late check out time before. Very disappointing. Paid more for the lake view, only to have a balcony overlooking the restaurant roof with a giant, noisy venting system right beside our balcony. Requested a room with a private bedroom and turned out to be only a partial wall separating it from the living area. (Note: The queen suite does not provide enough benefit for the extra expense unless you value a kitchenette.) If you want to use the sleeper sofa, you can barely access the balcony door. Our kids pointed out several instances of disgusting graffiti throughout the resort. Only redeeming factor was a nice, helpful waitress at the resort restaurant. When the front desk forgot to give us 2 of our 4 breakfast vouchers, she accommodated us. And she was very apologetic when the restaurant was out of the menu items our 2 kids ordered for both dinner and breakfast. My husband went to discuss the issues with management in the morning at 6:15, only to find the front desk attendant with her head on the desk asleep. When we shared our experiences with the front desk later that morning, they weren't willing/able to help. The expense was too much for the experience we had. We don't plan to go back. read more

Carpet is worn, beds are wore out, furniture is worn, one of the inside water slides is inoperative. This was our second stay in two years. We have three kids, ages 9,8 and 6. The water park kept them entertained and I, at no point, was worried about their safety. The room (two queens and sofa sleeper) was decent. Unfortunately our middle child became sick at night and we wanted to bathe him, but the tub would not drain. The sofa sleeper also had broken springs. I am still choosing five stars because the customer service to "make this right" for us was fantastic, and that's a rarity these days. I stayed at King's Pointe in Oct, Nov and Dec of 2106. I was here for a total of about 8 weeks and then I came back in June of 2017 for about a month. There is not much that I don't like about this place. I love the rooms, I love the fitness center, I love the view, I love walking on the walking trail by the lake. Everyone here has been very kind and helpful. They allow me to have my dogs for a flat fee, which is a great perk for me. I travel as much as nine months out of the year and it's important for me to have a great place to stay where I can have my dogs AND feel safe. read more

The water park was fun, the slides are fun, but most of them are pitch black and all you feel are the sharp turns and suddenly you're hit by a wave of water. The outdoor Waterpark is fun but the indoor Waterpark is horrible. At least for adults. Its very humid and hot in there. Its not much fun, it's more of a kiddie pool. The food is terrible.
