We arrived in Grreenwich early on a Saturday morning and took a guided walking tour of the area. After spending the rest of the morning exploring historical sites, it was time for lunch. It's not hard finding a good pub in greater London but we found a really great pub in Greenwich. The King's Arm was one we had seen on our walking tour and came back to it for lunch. I had fish and chips again (why not?) and both the fish and the chips were delicious. My wife had "British toasties" which closely resembled a dish her Mom used to make called Welsh rarebit (sometimes spelled Welsh rabbit). It's a cheesy sauce that often includes ale, mustard or Worcestershire sauce and it's normally served on toast. The King's Arms version of British toasties, paired an exceptionally good cheesy sauce with some excellent bread to what might be described as the world's best ever grilled cheese sandwich. The food and service were great. Too bad this place is 3,000 miles from my home in Ohio, USA. read more

We were not terribly hungry - well I was, but my dining companion was not so on our way back to the tube after visiting a phenomenal museum we stopped by for what we planned on being was just appetizers. We had not yet had a Sunday roast so first we went up to the bar to figure out beers and after sampling about 10 different little beers I settled time red wine not that doesn't have anything to do with the beer. The beer was great, but because I wanted a sundae roast beef to be exact, I decided on red wine my sister had beer. She was pleased with her selection so we ordered the beef sunday roast. I asked for the Yorkshire pudding upgrade, and it came with cabbage, carrots, parsnips, duck fried potatoes, stuffing and gravy. Well, the beef wasn't the most tender I've ever had all in all. I was very happy with it. The parsnips were excellent. The potatoes were really good and we bought a bottle of wine for $10. Food...well would love to provide a review but it never came. Service: After 45 minutes the gent at counter tried to tell me that I had ordered "starters" and "mains" and said "just 5 more minutes" (for a burger and mac&cheese BTW) hence the delay and then got belligerent and threatened to not provide a refund when I suggested that was not the case. That's customer service for you. I dedicated a day to coming out to explore the small town of Greenwich. They have a beautiful boat out there, a huge university, and the time observatory where they outline exactly where the Prime Meridian of the world is. Very cool stuff. In the midst of the full day, we needed some lunch, so we decided to check out one of the many pubs we passed on our walks about town. The internet guided me to the Kings Arms, and I'm glad it did. The vibe inside was old-school pub from the 1890's, with a modern twist. I had the BBQ Chicken (Wrapped in Ayshire dry-cured smoked bacon with East Coast IPA BBQ onion chutney, beer cheese, crispy prosciutto, slaw, triple-cooked chips). This was a very nice dish. The chicken was super moist and juicy. It was surrounded by fatty pork. And the deep ale-flavored BBQ chutney just tied it all together, and left a lot for you to dip your chips in. Huge fan. I also had the chance to try the Steak & Ale Pie (Award-winning steak & Ruddles Ale pie served with a charred wedge of Hispi cabbage, Merlot beef dripping gravy and your choice of buttered mash or triple-cooked chips). The pies in this country, were Amazing. The pastry was just so hearty and crisp and was able to absorb such a great amount of the sauce within, but while avoiding the dreaded soggy bottom, of course. The charred wedge of cabbage, I didn't understand. Maybe it's a British thing, but I was not a fan. Sorry. Overall, this was exactly the experience I was looking for in London. Yummy! We were starving when we visited Kings Arm after a day of being tourists in London. The fish and chips were so delicious-so crispy and cooked to perfection! I also loved the grilled cheese; I think it had caramelized onions and a few different kinds of cheese. We ended the meal with some sticky toffee pudding-so much yum. I randomly strolled into this Greenwich pub, where I was greeted with a flustered staff. After being told it would be 30 to 45 minutes to get my fish and chips, I parked myself in a corner and waited. The food came out in less than 10 minutes. I would much rather a restaurant tell me the food is going to be a while than keep me hanging on the other way around. Was the fish absolutely amazing? No. But was it pretty good? Yes. We left the Cafe Rouge around the corner and came here and couldn't have been more impressed. My wife had the Steak & Ale mash, my son had the kid's cheeseburger, and my daughter and I shared the Wing Wednesday special. It was delicious all around. I tried two different gin flights which were well-prepared. We also had the cake & coffee! The service along with the food were fantastic. The etiquette was to order at the bar, and the food would be brought to your table. I really need to compliment the service. I have really been disappointed with some of the service we received in the city with a few restaurants, but this location really impressed us. We'll be coming back. read more

Six of us enjoyed our morning and early afternoon of sightseeing in Greenwich. We were hungry for lunch so I pulled out my list of restaurants and found one near where we were at the time. The Kings Arms is a popular and traditional pub with a pretty outdoor patio that sits among a green garden. The place serves typical pub food from burgers to salads to a good variety of main dishes to puddings. I had the fish (haddock) and chips with bread and mushy peas (£8.45); Tony had beef and Abbot ale pie w/ green beans and carrots and a side of braised red cabbage (£9.45). Service was very slow, although we hit the pub at lunch time. Overall, a decent place to eat in a traditional pub. This is a good place if you don't plan to have a quick meal. read more

Better Half and I went in the restaurant around 7:00 PM for dinner tonight, stood around for a couple minutes before seating ourselves, perused the menu and decided what to order, waited for our orders to be taken, and waited. The two employees casually ignored us even when we tried to get their attention. After ten minutes of waiting, we left. I guess the kings arms had hands in pockets tonight. What a waste of time. Edit: We later learned that among many signs at the bar was one instructing patrons to order at the bar. Our table did not face the bar, the table contained no ordering instructions, and the two disinterested employees easily could have provided direction. My one-star rating stands. read more

I love this place on summer afternoons, they have a small but beautiful patio, that is very pleasant. Beside the pub, on the left handside of the facade, there is a small alley with another patio.... I have amazing memories of lazy sundays here, eating winkles, pickled eels and drinking pints. I think this stall has nothing to do with the pub though; last time I was here, they were serving apple pie instead of my beloved eel and when I asked to the bar tender, seems they didnt owned the stand and could not tell me where the winkles had gone ;( Pity. Standard pub. Fine for few drinks in quite a convenient place - central Greenwich - near all the interesting bits, Greenwich market, Greenwich park, the queens house etc... There are nicer pubs around but this one is fine. The wine list is quite good and there are some good ales on tap. Food is available but I've only ever had chips here - they were fine. The bar staff are largely friendly and honest about the food and drink on offer. This pub isn't too shabby. But I've never had a really brilliant night in here. It's over the road from some student halls, but don't let that put you off. They're the halls for the 'mature' students, which surprisingly seems to make a difference. They drink ale. The food here is pretty good. It's homemade which is good, and they have a BBQ out back in the summer. Lots of seafood in the summer which is strange. I don't have feelings to this pub one way or the other. I would say the picture for this place sums it up pretty well. On the positive side, the portions are more than substantial. I can't imagine eating the entire steak and ale pie by myself even on a completely empty stomach. That said, the flavors were less than pleasing. I can honestly say I probably enjoy eating frozen chicken pies from Sainsbury's more than the steak and ale pie I had here. Do NOT let the menu fool you. I have worked for this chain of pub. It belongs to punch taverns. The Food, like the Yacht is nearly all microwaved. The burgers that you pay 8 quid for, is yes 90 second job in microwaved. I can honestly say that neither of these pubs do 'Homemade' food. That is a big FAT lie. They may say it but it is far from it. The pies come in frozen. The only stuff that hasn't sat in the freezer for 2-3 Months is the specials on the bottom of the menu.. Microwaved Roast Beef? mmmmm delicious. Especially when you see how it comes out of its packaging. definately not a place for food. The chicken comes in cooked yet in a slimy grease. The Kings Arms is a pleasant pub whether you're grabbing a light bite for lunch, stopping for an afternoon drink after a stroll through the adjacent Greenwich park, enjoying a hearty dinner or socialising over evening drinks. The decor is traditional, but not in the lifeless cookie-cutter fashion of so many large, spacious family-oriented gastro-pubs. No; this place retains a sense of character. It is small, cosy and rustic, with fireplaces and quirky memorabilia on the walls. It attracts a mixed crowd: older people, younger people, professionals, artsy types. This could well be because apart from a good atmosphere, they offer quality food. The menu has what you'd expect from any pub, but again, originality is retained. Why have a baked potato with beans when you can have one stuffed with cheese & mushrooms, or one with chicken and guacamole? While this isn't a bargain pub where you get two meals for 7 quid (go to Wetherspoons if that's what you're after), the prices are definitely reasonable. All in all, a civilised but unpretentious place. You can talk over the music, they have coffee machines, the service is prompt and the one or two plasma screens that adorn the walls neither distract nor blare in your face, making it an ideal place for a lowkey gathering with friends. read more

We visited here for lunch in late August after spending some time at the Greenwich Maritime Museum. A good traditional English pub with good beers and fine food. My wife and I shared three small plates(Tapas style) all of which were tasty and filling and I washed it down with a beer or two. We had - Braised Lamb Mutumma, Duck Sring Rolls and South West Whitebait all for a cost of £10.95 and that was plenty of mfood for lunch. Service was okay and very friendly. Go here and enjoy it. Do not go! this is easily the worst pub i have ever had the misfortune of going to. The staff cannot serve a pint properly. Even worse is the staff denial that they cannot pour a pint. staff have an attitude problem, and the pub itself is a bit of a hole. It has really gone downhill since i last visited.
