Every November a business meeting takes my husband and me to the Pacific Northwest and each visit…read morewe try to explore a new area. My daughter, who lives in Olympia, Washington, encouraged us to visit the San Juan Islands (and take her with us, of course) this year. I looked at several possibilities and settled on the San Juan Waterhouse because of its location to the ocean, its view of Canada, the fact it had Internet (I thought I might need to work) and its online reviews. We were lucky that our son was also able to join us, so we felt we needed three bedrooms. The San Juan Waterhouse sits on the edge of the Haro Straight. Its water facing wall is nothing but windows, so nearly every location in the house (including the master bathroom) provides an easy view of the water. The house has three bedrooms. The master bedroom is situated so you can see Canada from the comfortable king size bed. The second bedroom is in a room with three walls of windows. This bed is a Queen. The third bedroom has two twin beds and has high windows overlooking the sod roof of the house. The main room of the house has comfortable furniture surrounding a beautiful stonework fireplace (gas) and padded window seats with many pillows for reading and gazing at the water. The kitchen. Oh my goodness, the kitchen! It has everything you could possibly need for cooking (including basic spices) and an amazing Viking stove. I'd never used one of these before and now covet one for my own house. Because my family was not going to be together for Thanksgiving, we had a Thanksgiving celebration two weeks early and cooking the meal was a breeze (and fun) in that kitchen. The kitchen also holds the house's main heat source -- a gas powered iron stove. It really heats up the place -- even the master bedroom which is down a long windowed hallway. The house has two bathrooms. One, as previously mentioned, has views of the water through the windowed French doors. (they have curtains, so don't worry about privacy). This bathroom has a claw-foot bathtub and a separate shower. The second, smaller, bathroom holds a second claw-foot bathtub (no shower). While the house itself is amazing, the best part is the location. The architect took great pains to fit it in with the surroundings and Frank Lloyd Wright slopped ceilings guide your eyes to the beautiful landscape out the windows. The house is situated on a small cove. My son and daughter ventured out during a late-night very low tide and found some interesting sea life in the tide pools. We had one beautiful sunny day and one day with strong winds and violent waves. We saw many gulls, three eagles and two small deer. I am already plotting our return to this beautiful house -- hopefully in the summer next time.

We appreciate every detail. This rare experience will rapidly become one of the best-known vacation experiences in BC. We will savor our memories." Julie & Ross, Calgary Alberta. "What an unbelievable spot!! A piece of heaven on earth. Thanks" Diane & Brian, North Vancouver "Having arrived here following a week in the Rockies, we believed we had "seen the sights" but nothing could prepare us for this beautiful house. We loved the peace, the wildlife and most of all the view. The house is a delight with so many wonderful finishing touches. Every room has its own unique features-it's been a pleasure to spend time here. Nothing will stay longer in our memories that our early morning hot tub, as the mist lifts on the basin. We loved Canada, but most of all this spot. Many thanks." Wendy & Richard, Cheshire, England "We loved to stay here. This house stands on the grounds of a very special place in the world. There is nothing that can be compared to Vancouver Island and this house reflects it all. Thank you for the many small areas created with love for detail and art." Innes, Helmut & Berndt, Frankfurt, Germany & Oakville Ontario "Our second visit to Madrona Cove and although we didn't think it possible it was more beautiful than our first. Familiarity must breed more comfort and fun. We loved berry pie from Seagirt berries just down the road, kayaking with Rush adventures, Sushi on the Sea (call when you arrive they only serve Friday & Saturday and fill up fast) arrive with an appetite & prepare to share the evening with one big group, it's fun sailing with Explore Charters in Sooke is fun. Captain Ralph Hull's boat is far from fancy but he knows his skill as a sailor & he's a fun and gracious host. East Sooke Park hike is beautiful and a nice cardio challenge. Matheson Lake is beautiful for swimming, the water is warm. The Sooke Potholes can't be missed for swimming & jumping from the cliffs for the less that faint of heart. Dinners at Markus Warfside & Sooke Harbour house are both special treats. Trinita & Jeff as always there could not be more gracious hosts. The special spirit of Madrona Cove lives in and through you. Thank you so very much!" Maureen, John, Addison & Brennan, Palos Verdes California "You've created an amazing place here on the water. Beautiful setting and a beautiful house. The perfect place to spend our honeymoon. We truly loved it and I have a feeling we'll be back. Thanks." Will & Jenny Moorhead, Greenville, SC. "Earth, water, fire, air, house and us. Everything in one place and everything beautiful. Soon will not be soon enough." Rex & Janet from NW Ontario, Bruce & Nancy from Portland Oregon

The Heather Cabin appears to have been built perhaps in the 1930's and retains its vintage charm. The Heather Cabin is very well maintained and has everything you need to be comfortable. The cabin is right on the water and the views are amazing and ever changing between morning, during the day, and at sunset. And you can enjoy the view from the picture window bedroom, from the many windows in the living room, and from vantage points just right outside the Cabin. Pictures describe better than words do, so here are some photos from our stay. Thank you, Cabins-on-the-Point. We'll be back.
