I wish I could say it was lovely, the fish was nice and the chips were greasy plus it's not cheap for a take away.

As a night time venue, expect a busy atmosphere and slightly overpriced drinks. Still, if you don't want to trek to Brighton it is a bit of a seller's market and the bar offers an adequate alternative to the city. A good time to swing by is the post 5pm work period for a quick pint or two period. They will regularly send around complimentary snacks and nibble to tables, which more than make up for the drink prices. An especially good summertime venue, where the outdoor patio catches all of the afternoon and early evening sun. I have never eaten at the Square, but seen enough food to class it as reasonable. They do offer specials in the £8-£15 region, but I would suggest trying the food over a lunch break where you aren't competing with evening drinkers. If you looking for an atmosphere a little more highbrow than a pub, then this may be the place for you.

They serve a fantastic eggs Benedict here which I highly advise you take with a bloody Mary on the side. They have a nice patio outside to sit and watch the World go by while enjoying your food. It dates back to…read morethe mid 18th century and used to offer a dry roof over the heads of the many highwaymen on the main route from London to Brighton. Needless to say it has tons of charm. They have a fantastic selection of real ales on tap and offer some excellent food. I was there a week ago and had the lamb shanks in a Minted Jus Served with Parmentier Potatoes and it was fantastic. Worth a drive to spend a nice afternoon there on a sunny weekend in their lovely beer garden too!

Apparently, it is owned by a guy who was a big footy fan and you have a number of strips mounted on the walls. The drinks selection is pretty broad ranging and there are enough beers and ales on tap for most palates. There was a garden out back for smoking and summer climes, but we elected to eat indoors. Whilst you order at the bar, they provide table service for your food and any additional drinks. I chose a tasty Pinot for the fish and was pleased with the bottle. Some pubs just don't get food wine right, but they seem to be clued in on this front at the Witch. It is a little tucked out of the way, so if you haven;t been before I would suggest a route finder or bringing a sat nav. If you arrive at Haywards Heath station, it's worth an inexpensive taxi fare and well worth venturing into Lindfield for. i would definitely return for a second helping!

There are a number of tables downstairs and the addition of a clever mezzanine adds to the seating capacity in the gallery. I usually choose to eat up there and you get a wonderfull view of the oak beams and all the goings on of the restaurant down below. They serve traditional Italian cuisine and have an authentic stone baked oven should you opt for a pizza. The wine list is fresh and they have a good range of both white and red varieties. On my last visit I enjoyed a very good Pinot Grigio. They also will frequently have promotions on either 2 course and a drink for £10, or two main meals for £10. It's well worth taking advantage of these offers, but even without the menu is reasonably priced and well constructed. The service was adequate, but you can get left to it a bit on busy nights. They may well improve on this if they decided to employ another member of staff on the busy shifts. Aside from this, I have always had a good experience when I have eaten here. Nice food in a unique setting.

Its by no way cheap but if you want a special night out you won't find a better place within a large radius. The last time I ate there I had Confit of local cod, puy lentils, shallots in red wine for starters followed by Loin and pie of Balcombe Estate venison, cauliflower cheese, Maderia jus. Sounds nice doesn't it! A close friend of mine got married there recently and had such a beautiful day. The grounds are really charming and the whole place has such a lovely atmosphere. Set in the Borde Hill Gardens, I can't think of a single restaurant in the area that will rival Jeremy's for quality. Take a quality London restaurant and relocate it in Haywards heath and this is the result. Thankfully, the saying that 'you get what you pay for' holds up well here. I was a chef for 10 years and having eaten here once (luckily someone treated me so i escaped the bill) i was mightily impressed by the menu and wines. Jeremy will usually be about for most chef's heading up the kitchen and this means that the quality is consistent. His wife Vera is of Scandinavian descent and you can see the influence of French, Italian, Spanish and Nordic cuisine in the menu. There are also a myriad of events and ways you can dine. There are Jazz nights on Monday which would be a cool way to dine at the restaurant and many multiple course'offer's. Whilst these aren't going to be cheap, you will get to experience the full range of a very professional chef plying his trade over a wide range of dishes. What you should really get excited about is the wine. Again, it will cost you but they source from some excellent continental vineyards directly and some of the bottles may really reinvent your understanding of wine. I could go on about this place for a long time, but have a look on the website at some of the dishes and you will get what I mean. Food this good in a setting as nice as Borde Hill. How could you go wrong!!!!!
