Avoid using the building design services here. We spun our wheels for a year and a half with a…read moredesigner who was overworked but also , it seemed, careless. He would take weeks to send us a revised version of the plan, and leave out 80% of the changes; many of which were to correct errors made on previous version(s). He also seemed to incorporate features that neither I nor my builder requested, which caused some arguing between me and the builder! He emailed me the wrong designs while I was on an adventure holiday....it was an unpleasant surprise to get those, and we wasted time trying to print and work with them during our trip. Part of our renovation's challenge the fact that our cottage property is located within the shore allowance, which was moved back 25 feet from the lake, some years after we originally built the cottage; the Cheming HH designer provided us with plans that won't work unless we are approved for a variance....the new design was almost 150% larger than our exiting building size and so, is unlikely to receive building dept approval. He never mentioned this. His design was also closer to the shoreline and needed a variance in this basis. To keep doing the work for us, and bill us, but not know about these standard cottage country bylaws was improper. Moreover, the design itself was very clunky; our builder simplified it himself and saved us thousands of $$$$. We have retained and are working well w an independent designer now; she was quite miffed when she heard how we had been treated at Cheming HH. Wasted over $1000 and got even more aggravated during covid....waited month after month after month for useful designs, then gave up and started all over again w a designer who also has planning expertise. Our building was delayed by him, costing us more due to increase in building material costs. Avoid this place

Got the wrong sheen on another batch of paint. Pay for foam, then they can't find it. Ordered cabinet from them... I think they threw it off the truck it was so damaged. One time I paid for my water softener salt, we loaded it ourselves, next thing Drew is out accusing me of stealing it. You wonder why I keep going back... because they are the closest to my house. I stopped going there for years, but I thought I would give them another chance. But they just keep screwing up. I'm done with them.

I told two of the employees at the store that I have previously purchased and installed…read moreinappropriate lighting for a room, and that I REALLY REALLY needed some advice for replacement kitchen lighting at our cottage. I even showed them photos of the high/cathedral ceiling, and mentioned "general lighting": I had done some research on internet and I thought this was what I needed. To their credit, they did suggest a basic circular fixture which was on sale for $22. Not attractive in any way, just bright. I began to look at other options, and found some lights that I thought would work. Staff were too busy to help me. I bought those, as well as a bedroom fixture and a fan. Probably spent close to $2000. The bedroom fixture is beautiful (tricky to install) and we've not yet built the room for the fan, but the kitchen lights are dimmer than the lights we bought for our condo kitchen renovation 15 years ago, and our bad bathroom lights. It's very dark in the kitchen, which had been so silly over these last months (husband spent hours installing them in September as a birthday gift...he shortened the wires and the store would not accept a return). We will gird our loins lol soon and replace the fixtures we bought ($400) with something HOPEFULLY EFFECTIVE. That wiseveral hours more work for my husband to install, and more money spent. The store has so many many different lights for sale, that is for sure, and there were some good discounts when I shopped but I feel I got no advice and would not return there. Will buy cheap unattractive strong ceiling lights at a store in Toronto, when stores open for in-person shopping again and husband feels up to all that overhead work.... Here is my kitchen at night
