I bumped into Ruth in the courthouse while waiting for my first hearing, having decided to contest the citation. She immediately agreed to take up my case and even did so pro bono as I am a senior citizen with a long history of community service. I gathered evidence, she organized things, and even suggested that the charges might be dropped prior to the trial. The state was apparently persuaded that it would indeed be a waste of the judge's time and Ruth called me the morning of the trial to let me know the trial was cancelled due to the charges being dismissed.
