I emailed the gym to ask about waivers/drop-in fee but didn't receive a response. I figured I could handle everything when I got the the gym. Once I got to Portland I decided to take the 10am Monday class. After spending the money to take a Lyft to the gym, I get there and no one was at the front desk. Someone pointed me towards one of the coaches and I asked him about a drop-in fee. The coach informed me that PDX Thai Boxing doesn't do drop-in's because of Oregon Covid policies. Apparently I was supposed to sign up for some online portal that would've let me sign up for class. Since I didn't sign up, I couldn't train. The coach informed me that there was a phone number I could call to talk to someone and then asked me to leave the gym (he wasn't mean or disrespectful about it). I called the number and got a voicemail. The coach was doing his job and the policy is this policy, but it sucked to get turned away from the gym. I should've called ahead, that was my mistake. Overall, the whole experience felt really bad. The worst part is that the gym looked really nice! If you're looking to train here make sure you call ahead or you might get turned away.

My goal in coming to McConnell's was simply to help give me an outlet for moving my body. I didn't join with the intention of actually learning anything, just show up, cardio, and go home. It's been such a chill experience that I now take 4 classes a week, I'm gaining muscles, and am developing actual skills and knowledge. But the best part? I MADE FRIENDS! This gym attracts some pretty great people. It's welcoming to all body types, genders, orientations, and nationalities. And there's never any pressure to be more involved than you want to be. This is a boxing gym, you dont come here for a treadmill or to get swole. That helps keep it not too crowded. We roll in, participate in a well planned hour of drills and hard work, and roll out. Let me just say, this is one of the most comfortable boxing clubs I've ever been in. 2nd floor with windows all around. The natural light is amazing. There is a ring and plenty of bags and gear. They sponsor a club, and if your goal is to throw down for real you can acquire that skill and practice here. I just want to be in the zone, get out of my head, hit it hard for an hour and walk out feeling mighty. Mission accomplished.

Itzel teaches water aerobics M-W_F at 9am and her classes are packed largely due to her energy and the workout everyone gets. It's hard to keep a class fresh when it's three times a week, but Itzel manages to keep everyone engaged with excellent, varied music, exercises, and her smile and energy. For lap swimming, this is my favorite pool because it's much longer than the other LA Fitness locations At 25 meters vs 25 yards, which really makes a difference. There are 3 lanes, which swimmers split, and rarely do you have to wait for a lane unless you want to swim at 10am on M-W-F right after water aerobics when many people stay in the pool to continue their workouts. The showers, sauna and locker rooms are relatively clean. I say relatively, because it depends on the volume and the cleanliness of those using these spaces. I will say the woman who cleans the ladies locker room works her bitt off and is always sanitizing and wiping things clean.

I live on social security and I don't think it's fair that they just keep my money that they don't deserve to have I was not there my last month and I wasn't there a year. I just think it's really shady practices they're a big corporation I live on social security and it wouldn't have killed them to refund my money.

There you will see two nicely sized hot tubs and a cold plunge tub. Be warned that cold plunge is COLD! Opposite the tubs are the dry sauna and steam room which are HOT and the steam room is steamy! It does not take long to get a good sweat going, and before you know it you can feel the toxins and bad juju just melting away. They several types of water to re-hydrate room temp and cold water and sparkling water. I do believe I saw some plates that had oranges or apples or something of the sort. Be sure to try one of the foot scrub baths and massage. It really is the perfect tonic for pampering and stress relief. The massage therapist who handle my feet and calves was super friendly and professional. This foot care scrub and massage really the feet and calves much needed tension relief. There is a wonderful outdoor relaxation deck with lots of lounge chairs and tables to take breaks in between soak, sauna, and steam. This deck area overlooks a portion of the Portland city scape and highway. What made this deck enjoyable for me was waxing existential about what the folks in the cars driving by on the freeway might be thinking as you head back for a second dip into the hot tub. The SPA, locker and shower, and changing areas are all thoroughly maintained, clean, and give you everything you need to transition back into the Portland Urban. Once you've experienced that level of intention, design, and atmosphere, it's hard to go back. Knot Springs isn't bad, it's just not that. If you're looking for a straightforward soak, it'll do the job. But if you're chasing an elevated, immersive wellness experience... you might leave wanting more.

PRO: lots of boulder V0-V3 problems, routes that allow one to work on particular techniques, rock climbing vs comp orientation(?), easy to meet other climbers, route rotation is good. Not crowded from 900AM to 300PM, wide age range, in SE PDX. Very laid back vibe makes it easy to chat with and hang out with other climbers. CON: Sometimes the grades seem a little off: a V1 with V2 holds or placement, a V3 that is V2 easy. The staff can be terrific or indifferent, tending toward indifferent. The little key lockers need to be ripped out and replaced, the strength training area is cramped and aerobic gear is an afterthought. The Circuit is an old school gym in a good way: a little dark, a little dinged up, not terribly big, no cafe, and a lot of serious regulars. If what you want to do is boulder, this is the place in Portland to do it.

They were all very knowledgeable and they fostered an encouraging and positive team environment tailored to all fitness levels. Every day was different so that kept the classes really interesting and time just flew by even though the workouts were tough! Cardio, weights, mobility - all in a fun and effective format. The gym goers each morning were also great to work out with, everyone was so positive and putting in their best effort even though it was 5am. I can't wait to return to Portland and attend again. The space was very clean, organized and had all the equipment you could want. I noticed a couple people were having personal training in the back half of the gym while the class was going on, so that looked like a great option too. Easy to park and there are cubbies to put your belonging in next to the workout space. I felt so welcome and already part of a team even though I was just a visitor there.

They have plenty of room for acrobatics, handstands, floor work, etc. The ceiling height is wonderful: 26' ceilings. They have lots of aerial classes and private lesson availability: silks, trapeze, corde lisse, straps, sling, lyra, and some custom apparatuses as well. The founders are veteran circus performers with decades of experience in Cirque du Soleil and Le Rêve, among others. I trust their industry expertise, knowledge, and connections.
