They "left multiple notes" for the doctor to get back to me, they "left multiple notes" for his secretary, Wendy, and I never heard anything back from them. I was just left to suffer. So yeah, screw you for that. I will say he was very skillful with his injections. I was very nervous about them, but they went very well. This isn't in his control, but his waiting room was awful to be in. Filled with old people staring at me and whispering to each other about me, "she's too young to be here" "she's too young to have back issues." that's some REALLY dumb shit to say. Young doesn't = healthy... Yall are too fucking old to be that dumb.

The hernia was about 10 mm which is huge relative to the space your spinal cord and Dura need and was pressing directly on the spinal cord. After reviewing the MRIs, I was advised urgent surgery was needed. Since I could see the progression and was living with the scary negative trend with my leg strength, waning, I was eager for the surgery. Dr. Lopez told my wife after the surgery that every aspect of the surgery went better than he had anticipated and that he knew I was better already. I was able to walk out of the hospital same day and was so grateful for a reversal of what could've been a dire situation. Although I still have some lingering neurologic sensations in my legs. This is not unusual as nerves can heal at very different rates, but I can say after five months I am nearly back to normal, my experience with Midwest orthopedics, Dr. Lopez and his staff has been nothing but positive. During the investigation of my spine, it was also duly noted that I will likely need ACDF surgery as well and I have symptoms of severe radiculopathy. I have scheduled surgery with Dr Lopez and have all the confidence that my outcome will be outstanding as it was for my thoracic spine surgery. I included a picture of the surgical site the day after my surgery. A life changing surgery through such a small opening. I did feel like I wanted an opportunity to review my cervical MRI results and get a better understanding of why surgery was indicated and so I made an appointment with Dr. Lopez and had this discussion,-and decided to move forward with the surgery. It lacked a patient-centric philosophy to thoroughly understand each patient's specific needs and develop a customized treatment plan. Although it underscored worse-case scenarios, it did not involve a combination of treatments, including lifestyle modifications, stress management techniques, physical therapy, orthodontics as well as oral appliances. The total cost for my treatment was greater than $6,000 (upfront) of which medical and dental insurance paid only a small fraction of the total. Since Dr. Patel is not a Medicare approved provider, most insurance plans do not cover his charges. The treatment included diagnostic as well as 5 or 6 doctor visits (over the course of a year) and delivery of two appliances: the first to be worn for 3-4 months 24/7 and the second as a transition to nighttime for stability. This reduced teeth-grinding and relieved pressure on the jaw joint. It worked well for me to wear the appliance only as a nighttime guard, and within a week, I noticed no jaw pain. The limitation of jaw movement gradually improved to the normal range. The nighttime guard (to be worn forever) does work to hold the jaw and associated ligaments in place to prevent further deterioration. When patients are empowered with knowledge, they can be more actively involved in the decision-making process to ensure optimal outcomes. While Dr. Patel's staff is informative, empathetic and personable, I could not say the same for him. There was more emphasis placed on selling (what I considered) to be an overpriced treatment than on actually taking sufficient time with each patient. Dr. Patel did not foster ongoing communication that would have optimized treatment to suit evolving needs. After I had spent an hour driving round trip, I was made to feel like I was an imposition. I was rushed in and out of his office within a couple of minutes. While there, he did not encourage me to provide feedback on my progress or listen to my legitimate concerns or answer any questions. Furthermore, he certainly didn't volunteer much, if any, information on my progress. Because of this negligence, I will be seeking further dental care elsewhere. It is clearly obvious that Dr. Patel places more emphasis on money and receiving glowing recommendations than on improving the quality of life for TMJ patients. For those reasons, I would advise anyone to seek out more personalized care from other healthcare professionals who actually value and respect people over profits.

Reading a previous review regarding the cost of treatment: Dr. Patel is an expert in the treatment of TMJ. His evaluation is very in depth. So in depth in fact, that an x-ray taken during my initial visit discovered plaque build-up in my carotid artery that warranted a visit to a cardiologist. The cost of treatment and insurance coverage was clearly explained to me at the time of my consultation. I chose to move forward with treatment and I am so very glad that I did. After one month there was significant improvement in my symptoms. My jaw no longer locked in place (scary feeling!), I could chew with no pain and I was able to open my mouth more. I am so excited to be here with my husband to get his physical therapy for his heels and neck…read moreproblems. I called to make appointments and the receptionist was so nice and polite she made so easy and schedule four appointments to meet our schedule. Upon arrival we were greeted and promptly help. I did forget to bring the secondary insurance and asked them if I can fax it to them they assure me no problem bring it next time. At the waiting area they have new magazines. I like that a lot because I don't like reading old outdated magazines. The receptionist are so nice and courteous that is welcoming. The rehabilitation service here at CDH on the fifth floor offers physical, occupational and speech service and also they have the pediatrics section at the same floor. I noted that the facilitators are specially nice to the kids that come for their therapy. The staff cares so much for the elderly too. As I was waiting for my husband to go in a patient was waiting for the person to wheel him down to his parking place. The receptionist was very polite to him making sure he was well accommodated and saying jokes to him very sweet of her. The appointments are right on schedule and the therapist that was late for the seniors did called that he was stock on traffic and apologized for his delayed. The receptionist make it so easy they print out the schedules and give you a folders for your personal therapy appointments.

When I went to contact him I was told that I was no longer his patient. Now what am I supposed to do. I'm very disappointed with the way he decided that I was not his problem/patient anymore. He spent lots of time hearing how the injury occurred, examining my son, taking the xrays, explaining the xrays to me and coming up with a recovery plan. He is a very friendly guy and was patient and answered all my questions. Do you know about growth plates? Well I am quickly becoming an expert. This practice has several locations and several specialists, so you know they have dealt with your problem before. Also the appointment phone line opens at 8 am, which is so much better than waiting until 9. So after 2 major bone injuries in my house, my new motto is to avoid the ER at all costs (not if it's really in bad shape of course). Those bozos can't read an xray to save their life! Growth plate? What's a growth plate? Did we learn about that in school? The orthopedic specialist is the way to go!

I had a great experience with Dr. Thomas and a great experience with Linda Picchiottino (the OT specialist). I did feel like it was slightly "assembly line" at time, more so with Dr. Thomas, but you have to keep in mind, these are SPECIALISTS, all they look at, all day, is wrist and hand maladies, they know what they are looking at and they know what to do, why would you want a lot of hemming and hawing?
