I've been seeing Dr. Handoyo at the UCMC. He's among the best. We've all had those patronizing and…read moredismissive doctors who just stare at their computer the whole appointment, or rush you out of the door in two minutes, but Dr. Handoyo takes the time to get to know you as a person. Then he asks you questions about your malady, investigates different treatment options, and even takes the time to educate you on your condition. He's also a model of patience and persistence. I was a little lazy about using the peak flow test at first, but Dr. Handoyo didn't get annoyed. He just explained the importance of getting a good baseline record of my lung capacity and how it would help him to provide the best treatment, so I made a commitment to be a better patient. With the pandemic and his specialty, I know he is at a greater risk than other doctors, so I especially appreciate his professionalism and efforts to ensure the health and safety of his patients.

I've also had to go through some tests for possible asthma as I had a cough that lasted for about 2 weeks. Dr. Handoyo and the team of nurses had me take a series of breathing tests, which all seemed overwhelming, but they were all good about explaining why we were doing the tests and what the results meant for me. I really feel at ease whenever I've had to see him and feel very much like I'm taken care of after I leave my appointment. He also has convenient locations for those who live/work in the city. I've gone to his LIncoln Park and Loop office. The Loop office makes it convenient to make appointments during the work week and the Lincoln Park office is a quick train ride from work too.

Being new in an area and researching for such a doctor was at first overwhelming until I located Dr. Jacobson. From the minute you call his office through your first steps into his office, you can feel that you are cared about. Dr. Jacobson made connections with me immediately and patiently listened to my concerns. He is truly vested in finding the cause and then providing the best possible treatment to remedy/control the problem. Thank you Dr. Jacobson and staff for your time and service.

In 2003, I was laid up for 2 weeks at home with bronchitis. When I saw a new internist in 2008, he recommended that I see Dr. Jacobson, because of the numerous sinus infections I was continuing to experience. Since I saw Dr. Jacobson he had provided me with the right treatments that let me live a life without concern of asthma and allergies for over 15 years. It has been life changing for me. Under Dr. Jacobson's care I ran 13 marathons and rode my bike hundreds of miles each year. I never experienced any breathing problems. Dr. Jacobson's practice has a boutique feel to it. He takes whatever time is needed to provide a diagnosis and gives me all the time that I need to ask questions. He thinks outside the box, does whatever research is necessary, and develops innovative solutions to help me get well. He has a tremendous office staff that is very warm and welcoming when you come into his office. To me it feels like family. I feel that I have been provided the very best care. I have recommended Dr. Jacobson to other people numerous times. Peter Waldman

If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I have never seen a more ignorant and disrespectful…read moredoctor ever before in my life. Most doctors join the profession so they can HELP people, and she is one of the most unhelpful people I have ever met. She wouldn't listen to me. She kept asking me questions and then cutting me off and switching topics. She wouldn't even let me give her my FULL LIST OF KNOWN ALLERGIES. She just kept focusing on whether or not the was aspirin in sunscreen in the 90s. I don't know if or why there was aspirin (one of my known allergies) in sunscreen in 1990. My job is not sunscreen recipe creator since 1990. I was a newborn, and the only information I could give was the information my mom gave me, that the er doctors gave her, when I was 20, and started going to doctors appointments on my own. I swear she only allergy tested me to shut me up and charge me for it. She seemed genuinely shocked that I reacted to anything at all, including the things I had already told her I knew I was allergic to. After she made her notes on my reactions, she didn't even clean my arm off properly. She literally just took a tissue and wiped my arm, spreading the allergens around, and now I am reacting all over my arm. Luckily, I keep wipes in the car and was able to clean it off properly. I feel like she came into the room with an agenda and didn't care about what I had to say as an individual. My partner and I walked out of there so stressed out that it ruined the rest of our plans for the day. DO NOT EVEN LET THIS DOCTOR PISS ON YOU IF YOU ARE ON FIRE. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else because you're going to end up having to in order to get real answers anyway.

So my gastro (another great doc by the name of Dr Ollinger) just informed me that I have eosinophilic esophagitis. Yeah- try saying that 3 times fast!! Apparently it's a rare condition in the esophagus (I'm always blessed with the rare ones) where I actually have allergies in my esophagus and sometimes tend to stop breathing when I'm eating And if you've read my other reviews y'all know that I LOVE to eat! Dr. Ollinger suggested I make an appointment with an allergist, specifically Dr. Malde, ASAP. ASAP in doctor world typically means 6 months so I expected to wait a while, but after phoning Dr Malde's office they said they could see me within a few days. Already a fan! And I liked Dr Malde even more the minute I met her. She doesn't seem to keep her patients waiting long (or at least I didn't wait long) and spent hours chatting with me and testing me so that we could get to the root of the problem. I'm always annoyed when my doctors are rushing me out the door, but this definitely isn't the case with Dr. Malde. But she also moves at a good speed (she may even talk faster than me- if that's even possible) so she had me out of there as soon as possible. I have to be honest that I didn't love the outcome of the tests allergy tests. Apparently I need to be locked up in a clean bare room for the rest of my life (seriously, I'm allergic to trees!), but Dr Malde understands that a girl's gotta live so she prescribed necessary medications to help me with my allergies. She also made a list of foods to stay away from. Good-bye corn, beef, soy, almonds, and shellfish- it was nice knowing ya! Having eosinophilic esophagitis (I think I've finally learned how to spell it!) is no fun, but at least there are Dr's out there like Dr Malde willing to help! Highly recommend for anyone looking for an allergist!
