This practice had some significant ups and downs over the past seven years but has become reliable…read moreand provided excellent service since the Drs DeFiores took over the practice. We have taken a particular shine to Dr. Lucas DeFiores who is high energy, very personable, and has excellent rapport with our dog. Two years ago our dog needed surgery and as I waited for her to come of anesthesia Dr. Flores came outside to chat with me and to reassure me how things had gone. I found that kind and reassuring. (This was when they were under construction and everyone had to wait outside and the pet had to be met and brought inside by a tech. It was a frustrating flashback to when they did the same thing during the COVID pandemic -- I am not sure whether that was before the DeFlores or afterwards, though a number of other pet owners sitting in the parking lot share their ire over that situation with me -- this overlapped with the owners being put on hold for when they called to get status updates) The staff as a whole are warm, friendly, and quick to remember your pet (I've got to admit my dog has an amazing personality) Scheduling appointments is easy, getting medication refills is pretty seamless. They do have some protocols that will drive you nuts, like accepting your call and leaving you on hold for a seeming eternity. We've been to vets in the Northwest, California, and now back in New York State -- and the two Drs DeFlores have simply been the best vets we've experienced. I have complete confidence in them and they do everything possible to support the pet owners.

We're upstate weekenders and have a very old pug who we've brought to Chathams a couple of times…read morefor various things. We've always been very happy with the service, and are very relieved to have a reliable vet for our dog on weekends. We have a vet who we bring our dog to regularly in the city, and while they're good overall, we really prefer the service at Chathams. At least twice we've called for last minute appointments for some sudden ailment, and they've always found the time to us really quickly, even right away. The staff are very courteous and professional, and the vets are very knowledgeable and explain everything carefully and clearly to us. There's a very warm air of caring for animals at the place; it's really a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. We're pretty picky about who we bring our 'old lady' to, and we've gone through a lot of vets in the city for various reasons. But we've been going to Chathams for a few years now whenever it's been necessary, and that probably says a lot.

Dr. Gundersen is kind, gentle, and even my super-shy dog loves seeing her for acupuncture. My 95…read morepound dog had 13 years of good mobility, and I believe acupuncture was a big part of that. Besides having a stellar bedside manner and being a skilled acupucturist, Dr. G. is an astute clinician who diagnosed my dog with an abdominal mass when he collapsed during a walk. I thought he had heat stroke, but she examined him carefully, and on the basis of his age and weak hind-end pulses, she felt he might have an abdominal mass, which he did. Turned out to be a pheochromocytoma, which is usually fatal, but thanks to Dr. G's outstanding diagnostic skills, he saw a surgeon and made a full recovery after surgery. ( I think that Dr. G. has since moved to her own practice--Alternative Veterinary Therapies in Voorheesville.)

**Warning: My Cat Was Traumatized Here**…read more This clinic was OK(not great but serviceable), until an overnight procedure left my cat completely traumatized and changed my view of this place forever. My cat was always gentle and calm. But after that overnight visit, something was clearly wrong. On our next appointment, he was shaking, growling, and so terrified that he urinated on me while sitting in my lap as soon as the vet entered the room. He refused to come out of his carrier, and when I tried to coax him out, he let out a screech I'd never heard before and lashed out in total panic. In all our years together, I had never seen him behave this way. I immediately asked what had happened during his stay. The response? Cold, vague, and defensive. The owner -- who is also the vet -- was incredibly callous, emotionally shut down, and even angry that I dared to ask. The staff followed suit, showing no empathy and offering no explanation. Instead of addressing my concern, they blamed my cat and told me they would refuse future treatment unless he "behaved better." I've since brought him to a different vet, and none of this fear-based behavior has occurred again. Whatever happened during that visit clearly left him traumatized -- and I will always regret bringing him here. ALWAYS!!! I honestly do not understand how anyone allows this team near their animals/family members. Their lack of compassion is alarming. Please pay close attention to how your pets react to a place -- they know when something is wrong. Mine tried to tell me, and I'll never ignore that again. You and your pet deserves better!!
