His style of therapy was everything we needed. He never made the sessions feel one-sided. He always made sure to acknowledge both of our feelings but allowed us to understand each other. We initially were seeing him every 2 weeks, then turned to 3, and 8 months later, we are finally in a place where we only need to schedule sessions as needed. To me, Kin is both a therapist and a coach. Yes, he's easy to talk to and nonjudgmental which makes him a great therapist but he also has the ability to constructively point things out to me, just like a coach would, so I can learn to become a better person, husband, and father. He has such finesse that his feedback seems very genuine and supportive, and it makes me motivated to want to change. The ironic thing about this review is I've never met Kin in person but that the phone interaction was enough to warrant this 5-star review. I initially found Kin on yelp and he seemed like a good fit for my issues. So I called and left him a voicemail about my situation and my insurance status. He called back within 20 minutes and took the time to ask me more in depth questions about me and offered a couple of very good suggestions. Then he explained to me that unfortunately he wouldn't be able to see me because he's an out of network therapist and my insurance wouldn't cover it. In the end, after spending close to 30 minutes on the phone with him, I didn't want to take up more of his time. Rather than just ending it there, he offered to do some research to see if he could recommend someone who could take my insurance. At first I thought it was just lip service but then 2 days later he called back and gave me a number to call. That's when I felt Kin was a really caring person. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with the place he recommended. Honestly if I financial situation were better I just rather see him because he seemed incredibly helpful and caring as a therapist. read more

Prior to finding Kin, we'd shopped around for therapists for a few months. Finding the right marriage counselor was a crapshoot for us. You don't know what you're getting yourself into until you meet someone face to face. We saw 1 therapist who said no more than than 5 sentences in the intro session. We left without feeling getting anything out of it. Another therapist scheduled us at a 1 o'clock meeting but didn't show up until 10 minutes after, with her latte in 1 hand while laughing with someone on the phone in the other hand. The remainder of the meeting felt more like chit chat than anything professional. Yet there's was another therapist we saw who tried really hard to help. But he seemed more desperate than actually helpful. Last but not least, there's another one we saw who interrupted us so much that I wanted to leave early. After a few failed single sessions and on the brink of giving up, we got a recommendation from a friend for Kin. We'd debated whether we should tell our friend but in the end we decided our marriage was worth more than face saving. Meeting Kin was a breath of fresh air. He was easy to open up to and yet professional. We had thought our problems were insolvable but he offered hope and guidance in such a gentle and reassuring way. After a few sessions with him, we both feel like we're making great strides. Kin is everything you need in a marriage counselor. He kept us hopeful when my partner and I were so exhausted with our fights and on the brink of giving up. I'd done therapy before but my last therapist was mostly quiet, granted she was very nice and caring. However, Kin is actually very HELPFUL. Can't believe I'm writing a yelp review for my counseling experience. But I feel the need to do that because my experience with Kin has been nothing short of life changing. Like many families, we have our fair share of marital issues as well as parenting challenges. After a few intense episodes, we decided to reach out for some professional help. I was at first skeptical about looking for a therapist on yelp because it's such a personal thing, but honestly I didn't know where else to turn to for that kind of guidance. When I saw Kin's practice on yelp, I immediately liked what I saw. Many great reviews and the promotion of a first free session. And when I checked out his website, it was apparent that he has a relationship/marriage expertise. It's almost like he's talking directly about our exact same situation. After reading more about his services on his website, I decided to text him for an initial consultation session. He was quick to respond and very personable. Before our first session, I was quite nervous because I had never done therapy of any kind and really didn't know what to expect and we were meeting him virtually. But Kin helped us feel at ease right from the gate. He just has this very calming presence that makes it easy to talk to him about the most personal issues. After taking the time to understand our situation, he gave us some very helpful insight and tangible feedback. He's not shy about feedback but does so in a very caring way like a teacher who's looking out for you. After the first session, my husband and I both felt a tremendous amount of relief and hope. My wife and I saw Kin for about 6 months and since then our relationship has been solid. I was quite skeptical about therapy at first but my wife wanted to give it a try after we had a few rounds of argument that went nowhere. His website states quite clearly that he sees a lot couples. You wouldn't want to see a foot doctor if your hand is hurting, right? So that's a good sign. I looked up a bunch of therapists and many of them seemed so generic. It felt like they were just checking all the boxes as their specialties. We ended up emailing 4 therapists specialized in couples and Kin returned our email within 2 hours and scheduled us in the next day. I was impressed by that. Well, the next therapist took 3 days to respond back and the other 2 never did. Not only that, Kin offered a half hour free consult to make sure we liked working with him before charging us. That was definitely nice of him. His style is very interactive. He's not the type that sits and nods. Come to think of it, he's like a coach pointing out to us what we needed to work on and making tangible suggestions to ensure that we were not just "talking" which was my initial reluctance towards therapy. i was referred to Kin when i was travelling to San Francisco two years ago. I was so hesitate to use his service in the very beginning because i though i was okay. Neither i need a consulting nor therapist of the relationship with my wife. It really did open my mind after the first session with him. After few sessions, I did see there was an improvement on the relationship with my wife. I am now living in Vancouver, Canada and i still receiving consultation with him via Skype. This is my first Yelp review of anything so bear with me. I found Kin online because I was looking for someone to talk to about my relationship issues. I had never seen a therapist, so the thought of scheduling an appointment was already intimidating enough. I had always had the notion of a therapist sounding cold and serious, but not Kin! Even in our first phone converstaion, he took the time to understand why I was calling and he never seemed rushed to get off the phone. I really felt he understood my problems at the end of our 20 minute phone call. So I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with him and then he told me he would still honor the 30 mintues face to face consultation in our initial session. I was so surprised!! Without spilling my guts out to the whole wide world, I would say, after seeing Kin half a dozen times, I feel my mood and issues have improved quite a lot. He has a very warm way of conveying his insights which often leaves me feeling more confident about myself at the end of each session.
