I went to Kim's Shoe Repair in Greenpoint because I bought a pair of cowboy boots off Depop that ended up being a little too narrow for my feet. I needed both the midsole and the front stretched and was expecting to pay somewhere around $20 to $30. The total came out to $7, which honestly surprised me. Extremely affordable. Less than a latte. The owners, who I believe are a couple, were very kind and welcoming. The woman in particular was extremely sweet and friendly. I went to pick up my shoes and one pair was ruined. I had requested that the women shoes were to be polished. She accepted the shoes days ago and today she said she couldn't polish them. Instead my shoes were ruined. They were given back worst than I brought there. I will never return there. If you bring your shoes take a picture before you leave them. The woman was nasty when confronted. She also had the nerve to charge me $20.00 for another pair of shoes that I had repaired. She denied ruining the shoes and did not offer to easy the horrible situation. I would not recommend anyone bringing expensive shoes to be polished or repaired there. read more

I brought in a pair of leather "Belgian NYC" shoes for adding of a protective rubber sole to the bottom, they put on perfect Vibram soles and the work looks as good as anything I've seen online. I've brought in all broken shoes and leathery things there and all done came out like brand new!~ New heels, soles - $7, Handbag & jacket zips - a lot of times free if not needed new zippers and if does, around $5 , Boots - quite beaten up cowboy boots - entire new renovation costed me $10-15 and Buckles and chipped off shoe toes & edges ($5-7). Even enlarging shoe balls ($1-2) - this one, you need to keep going back to check until stretched to the right size. Just name it, they did Amazing Grace and Miracle in Greenpoint ave job at Super cheap prices and sometimes for free. Please don't give me discount or do for free too much, I feel like ripping them off. LOL They don't charge you for something can be complimentarily(?) done. This Korean couple is extremly nice and honest.. I feel like I am dealing with my forever nice uncle and aunt making me smile everytime I see them. The service is fast. They do a nice job, occasionally. Which is not good enough. The prices aren't outrageous but they ain't that low either. I dropped off a pair last week (seven days ago), was told to pick it up today. The price for fixing the soles: 20 dollars. Excited to get my favourite pair back, I skip to the store this morning. They look for the shoes for 20 minutes only to find they hadn't even started working on them. It's not the first time this sort of situation has occurred. Please do not believe the other reviews about the prices at this place. They are completely wrong, this place is very EXPENSIVE. After reading the other positive reviews I took the train all the way to Brooklyn and I went in to get some new soles repaired for a pair of boots. They quoted me $70. That is a far cry from everyone on here saying the repairs cost between $5-$15. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I have no idea where they got those prices from. The boots didn't even need that much work. For those ridiculously high prices you might as well go to a better known place in Manhattan to get the job done. Although I do have to say that the workers there did seem very friendly and nice. It is just not worth it at all for the price. Get yourself to Manhattan for your shoe repairs and save some time and money. read more

I would recommend this shoe repair for a regular pair of shoes but not for any shoes on the high-end side. I feel bad but they have ruined my Rick Owens hight top ramones with the zipper. I had to ask them to take the stitches out bc they are interfering with the design and zipper don't work the same way anymore (although what she was saying is that "my shoes have had problem already.) sad, but hopefully someone else would be able to fix this. read more

Ruined my shoes and didn't even offer to fix afterwards. I asked for new soles for BOAT shoes. They said "yes we have those" after I clearly requested very small soles because they were boat shoes. And we looked at soles together. Came back with freakin platform soles stuck on there. No joke. After a bad incident at Yelena's on Bedford, I gave Kim's a try. Well it was worth it! They are much cheaper $16 for a complete sole replacement and heel (Yelena's is $25). They also are super fast. My fav cowboy boots were fixed in 2 days! They require a deposit but I only had a $5 on me and that was fine. I will be getting at my thrift store shoes finds fixed here from now on! read more

I absolutely love this husband and wife duo. I needed a place to get extra holes in two new belts but had no frame of reference for how much that would/should cost. They could tell and essentially were going to let me pay whatever I wanted to but I insisted they just charge me what it is ($1!!!). I've been coming here since 2010 when I moved to that neighborhood, and have not taken my footwear anywhere else despite moving neighborhoods many times. I go out of my way to come back here time and time again. Guess I can't wean myself off them - the sweetest old couple, and they do excellent work. I can't tell if the prices are reasonable or high - it really depends on the job I suppose. It was $15 to re-heel a pair of boots recently, that seems fair. The only odd thing is that they have you pay at drop-off (and cash only, but that's standard). They give an amazing polish and refresh each time, too, make the things look new regardless of whatever disastrous condition I present them in. Thanks, Kim's!! read more

I wish I could give Kims Shoe Repair 6 stars. I was told by 2 other reputable shoe repair places that my favorite shoes (since 2002!) were a lost cause & needed to be thrown out (soles had both come unglued & shoe fabric tearing). But I read a review here for Kims saying they offer 'old world craftmaship'...and I felt hopeful. Long story short, he did it! He fixed my favorite shoes, almost like new, and I'm over the moon about it. One more thing: I read that sometimes they forget about an order & it isn't ready for when it's promised. So... I stopped in a couple days before the due date (with my ticket #) and reminded them. Yes, that took extra work on my part. I get it. the holidays can really do a gal in, this gal in particular. last-minute shopping and visiting with friends had the unfortunate effect of distracting me from last-minute errand running, like getting new taps/tips for boots that i was planning to wear on vacation. and so on the morning i was leaving town, choice expletives fell from my mouth when i spied the bag of busted shoes by the outside door. what to do, what to do? my go-to guy in the east village has at least a 2 day minimum, no way was that happening. maybe the guy in midtown who gets the job done while you wait but charges you the earth for it? or maybe just buy new shoes? damn, damn, damn. but then i remembered kims. a few blocks away. was worth a shot; maybe they'd respond to begging? and so, dear friends, on my way to grab a bagel, i crossed my fingers and mentally prepared myself to pay maybe $20 per pair (costly but cheaper than the midtown guy). imagine my surprise when they quoted me $7 per pair to be completed by mid-late afternoon, no begging necessary. now imagine my delight when i went to pick them up and found both pairs repaired and all scuff-marks treated to a fine polish. happy holidays to me. than you kims. i might not believe in santa, but i believe in you. read more

The first half dozen times I came here I had great experiences. The quality was excellent and the staff friendly. The woman who works there even told me that one of my pairs of shoes was really not worth putting the money into it to fix it that I would have to invest. However, the last time I visited I had an entirely different experience. I paid a total of $55 to have the soles replaced on two pairs of shoes and a zipper replaced on one of the boots. When I got the shoes back, the WRONG ZIPPER had been replaced despite my specific instructions, and the soles had not been at all touched on one pair of shoes. To make matters worse, the woman wanted me to pay another $40 to get the correct zipper replaced even though it was her mistake. I'll never go back here. It's one thing if you mess up something small that can be easily fixed, but replacing a perfectly functional zipper on a boot that costs $40 to begin with and wanting to charge another $40 is an entirely different matter. read more

Great service, quick and does the job - but I brought a designer purse here (to fix the straps) and the repairman held the purse in a way that made me think he didn't realize the cost and sensitivity involved with such an extremely pricey purse....just good to know for anyone dropping off expensive items. I don't know why I avoided it so long. My boots were in pathetic condition. I overpronate, and the heels had been ground down into a wedge so that the slightest gust of wind would fell me. But I figured it would be a huge investment to get them repaired. New heels, a complete resoling cost what? $14? I am an idiot. They're nice and fast here, and best of all: cheap. Do be advised, though, that you'll probably need to pay upfront. read more

After moving from NYC to out of state, needed to have three pair of shoes resoled. I wear a size 6 EEEEE which means I have to keep having the same shoes resoled, as shopping is impossible. Called Kim's, asked if I could mail them in. Just got them back yesterday and they did a GREAT JOB. You simply cannot find old world craftsmanship any more, the old man is a genius. I cannot say enough good about them. I don't understand the negative reviews, maybe there is a language problem or maybe some people just don't like Koreans, but all I can say is GOD BLESS KIMS. The korean couple there are the absolute sweetest and they do miracles to all my ruined shoes! They are backed up with work so at times my shoes aren't ready but it's totally worth the wait cause they come out brand new! People are complaining that the costs here are expensive... then try taking it anywhere in the city or where ever... other places are so much more expensive and no one can fix better then this couple can! They really do miracles with my shoes which seem hopeless!
