I love bakeries, that ain't no lie. And this little beauty is a highlight of my annual Kustom…read moreNationals Phillip Island trip. Whilst I shouldn't, I try to get a taste of everything on the pastries menu and this is helped by the fact that there are a number of items in the 'party' size range! Plenty of healthier options (I said 'healthier' not 'healthy') in the form of veggie rolls, pasties and quiches, all while the traditional kinds are staring you in the face begging for you to break that diet onnnnneeee more time. If you're adventurous, there are some less traditional pies floating around including the broccoli and three cheese pie and the meatball centre with mac and cheese topping pie which was insane. Good coffee and drinks selection, as well as some tasty treats. The service can sometimes leave a lot to the imagination but I guess that's just what happens in a place that's this popular.

They can cater for your plain pie cravings but why stick to basics when you can get a pie topped with delicious creamy mashed potato or a "mudda fudda" pie which had so much crammed in it couldhave been classified as a 3 course meal or a mac and cheese pie with a tasty tomato saucy meatball filling (downfall being the mac was a little crunchy for my liking). It's super clean with plenty of seating both inside and outside. The coffee's not bad either and I really enjoy when you get something a little extra that you're not expecting. In this case they give you a sweet little shortbread cookie with your coffee, no matter what size you order and regardless of whether you're eating in or taking away. Small things like that can keep patrons coming back (I'll be back for that meatball filling, though).

Arrived after 2 for late lunch. Ordered frittata and iced coffee. Specifically asked whether i…read moreshould wait at counter or sit down. Told to sit down and they would find me. After a 20 minute wait i went back to counter to chase up my order. I was told it was my fault that I did not get my items ordered and eventually got given frittata in takeaway and my coffee was sitting on a counter for i don't know how long. This was all in a non busy time. When i went to the counter to chase up my food and coffee after a 20 minute wait i was told after 2 it was takeaway so apparently i should not have sat down as specifically told to do. Customers are expected to know all of this as the worķers just tell you lies and then blame you for not knowing their serving rules. When I spoke to the manager she reiterated that it was my fault and then blamed me for upsetting her staff member. When I said I was a tourist and could not be expected to know the serving rules, the manager and another server smirked at me. They made it obvious that they do not like tourists. At no time did I raise my voice or say anything to the staff member that was in the least bit rude. All I said was asked where my order was and told her that it had been 20 minutes. I also said that she told me to sit down when I ordered. I do not blame the server as it is now clear that the problem is extremely poor management. There was obviously some mistakes made but their response was to blame the customer and then falsely accusing the customer of upsetting a staff member. As a tourist to this area, i would not recommend this place and will never come here again. Lots of other friendlier and more professional places in the same shopping area.

The flavors are quite interesting. We ordered the Duck & 5 Spice Pie and a Beef & Burgundy Pie. The duck pie tasted a lot like Chinese BBQ duck which was kind of weird but interesting. The beef pie was good with big chunks of meat and good flavor, although a bit gooey. Both pies came with (onion?) relish. The attached grocer has a good selection of fresh fruits/ veggies and frozen take home meals which would be very convenient if you're staying somewhere with a kitchenette. There's a few Red Hill Bakers around the area.

If you're in the area (likely en route from the city to Philip Island), there's no reason you shouldn't drop by. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? Getting satisfaction from the food at a shop or restaurant is one thing, but receiving just as much satisfaction from the service is a rare treat. At Tooradin, this is very much the case, with a well-versed and friendly staff that appears to keep the locals coming back on a daily basis. In combination with a spacious yet quaint package of both indoor and outdoor seating, Tooradin Bakery really does have it all in the service and atmosphere departments. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? While I opted to pay $2.80 for a Chocolate Chip Biscuit (it would seem as though large, fresh-baked Chocolate Chip Cookies haven't quite caught on in Australia... oh well), just about everything I saw in Tooradin Bakery represented a good deal. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=AE21auofEBYF5hR9D_hblA&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? While my Chocolate Chip Biscuit was quite good, it's the selection at Tooradin Bakery that really is a selling point. With goods ranging from breads to sweets to pies that could serve anyone from a single to a full family of five, Tooradin's selection trumps anything I encountered in the city. Additionally, with a fully functioning Deli, Tooradin really does have every base covered. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Absolutely, and it would appear as though a host of Tooradin locals do just that. With great service, good prices and a truly incredible selection... who wouldn't? Star Granted.
