Arrived after 2 for late lunch. Ordered frittata and iced coffee. Specifically asked whether i should wait at counter or sit down. Told to sit down and they would find me. After a 20 minute wait i went back to counter to chase up my order. I was told it was my fault that I did not get my items ordered and eventually got given frittata in takeaway and my coffee was sitting on a counter for i don't know how long. This was all in a non busy time. When i went to the counter to chase up my food and coffee after a 20 minute wait i was told after 2 it was takeaway so apparently i should not have sat down as specifically told to do. Customers are expected to know all of this as the worķers just tell you lies and then blame you for not knowing their serving rules. When I spoke to the manager she reiterated that it was my fault and then blamed me for upsetting her staff member. When I said I was a tourist and could not be expected to know the serving rules, the manager and another server smirked at me. They made it obvious that they do not like tourists. At no time did I raise my voice or say anything to the staff member that was in the least bit rude. All I said was asked where my order was and told her that it had been 20 minutes. I also said that she told me to sit down when I ordered. I do not blame the server as it is now clear that the problem is extremely poor management. There was obviously some mistakes made but their response was to blame the customer and then falsely accusing the customer of upsetting a staff member. As a tourist to this area, i would not recommend this place and will never come here again. Lots of other friendlier and more professional places in the same shopping area. read more

Cute little bakery and has a small grocer attached. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. Vegan options available. The pies are good-- not your typical gas station, dubious meat pies. The flavors are quite interesting. We ordered the Duck & 5 Spice Pie and a Beef & Burgundy Pie. The duck pie tasted a lot like Chinese BBQ duck which was kind of weird but interesting. The beef pie was good with big chunks of meat and good flavor, although a bit gooey. Both pies came with (onion?) relish. The attached grocer has a good selection of fresh fruits/ veggies and frozen take home meals which would be very convenient if you're staying somewhere with a kitchenette. There's a few Red Hill Bakers around the area. read more
New Years Day 2015. Driving with friends, exploring the coastline on our way to Flinders, and a winery. Many places were shut and we were pretty desperate for a coffee - when we saw the Red Hill in Balnarring. Pleasantly busy bakery with seating inside and out. Must have been 10-10.30am, too early for meat pies (only cold to go) so we stuck with coffee and pastries. I had a nice, big, strong (3 shots) Cafe Latte - good! - and a bun (pretty much a Hot Cross Bun but without the cross and not hot :). But it was fresh, good and served with butter, my wife had a mocha with cranberry muffin. All good stuff - an oasis in a dessert today with everywhere shut. If you are driving by certainly worth a stop and visit! read more

Pros - open fire place - cheese and spinach roll - cute jazz gig every Sunday - the eggplant and cheese dip is insanely moresih Cons - coffee not always great... - I was charged an extra dollar to eat in - staff said it was a 'service fee' ? Isn't that encouraging people to use single use take away packaging ?? - food is ok but not a lot of vegan / veg options read more
At first glance you might think this is just a regular old school bakery. It is... sort of. You'll find loaves of bread, vanilla slices, pies, pasties and the like but venture further in and you will find the store opens up to reveal bountiful shelves of vegetables, fruit and all manner of gourmet deli and pantry items. There's a great selection of local deli items. Goat cheese, charcuterie, containers of olives... and high quality pantry items like dried pasta and jars of sauce. Along with the fruit and vege, there's pretty much everything you need here to feed a family over a weekend or to pack a great picnic. If you visit near closing time you may be offered a loaf of free bread! We tried the rye sourdough and the fruit loaf. Both were good! read more

You may think that over $6 is quite steep for a pie, but these are not ordinary pies. We had the Lamb and rosemary and Beef and Burgundy, and they were absolutely superb. Excellent French Baguettes and coffee also. read more

I'm not sure if we went here on a bad day but the food was dreadful. We drove all the way from Melbourne for the Sunday Jazz and some lunch and it was so disappointing. We ordered the calamari and the oriental slaw, the calamari had no flavour at all and covered in a tasteless burnt batter and the asian slaw was like a pile of soggy slop, it really was inedible. We voiced our opinion to one of the waitresses and gave her a 3/4 full plate to return to the kitchen and voice our disapproval. Not one apology and no one came to speak to us about the poor food. No wonder they make you pay up front! Red Hill Bakery will never see us again and I strongly suggest you grab lunch elsewhere. read more
