Intriguing special - vegetable tempura curry - and decent selection of maki hand rolls for vegetarian folks.

Great spot for dinner with reasonable prices. Very helpful staff and BYO. Would recommend to anyone! Have to try the sushimi and Mini-Udon!

I went to Tokyo express because we decided that we needed to stop eating at amazing places, and go…read moresomewhere average so we didn't over-eat. We chose this sushi place because of it's predecessor - Sushi Station. We were sorely disappointed. By which I mean, Tokyo Express has taken the place of one of the most lacklustre sushi venues south of the city and turned it into an amazing, unique and exciting sushi restaurant that stands out compared to all of it's competitors. The staff do the usual adorably loud greeting when you enter, and offer seating at a booth or at the train. We always opt for the train as it has consistently been magnificently stocked with some of the most exciting and inventive plates I've encountered in my quest for the perfect sushi. They offer water or green tea upon seating and at each table/section of the train they have pots of soy, fresh (mild) Wasabi and pickled ginger. Tokyo Express have all manner of weird and wonderful plates ranging from the classic seared fresh salmon to almond crumbed king prawns, octopus balls, caviare and scallop tarts, fresh Japanese and western deserts and pretty much any type of fun and funky sushi dish you could imagine. I couldn't recommend Tokyo Express more. They have been quiet each time we have dined there and I really hope to rectify this! 5/5 will continue to go back. A quick hint - if you're choosing something that looks like it should be hot, ask them to heat it. Until they get as busy as they need to be, some things won't be piping hot (IE Karage, salt/pepper squid, gyoza) and they're more than happy to re-heat.

My favourite sushi place in Brisbane, wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, cheap and great…read moreservice, it's not flashy, but they sure know how to cook! My husband and I used to live really close but we have moved to the south side, and we still drive across the city to eat here. They have free green Tea and the wait for a table isn't too long, I'm not sure If management had changed but they used to do the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month was every plate for $2! (they didn't serve the super fancy stuff on those nights but it was a great night out to eat till you pop!)

There is a quaint sort of magic surrounding this gorgeous restaurant. From the heavy wooden door,…read moreto the eclectic vintage plates on the walls and the bandana clad Pikachu sitting coyly on the bar, this charming eatery will make you feel welcome from the second you walk in. The menu is filled with delightful steamed and grilled traditional Japanese delights. The Gyoza, for which the restaurant is named, come in a variety of flavours including duck, pork and prawn. The miso soup is a delicious starter and goes down wonderfully with a glass of the iced green tea. My recommendation is the tempura eggplant as a side, it is delightfully sweet and savoury and crisp to the bite. Whether you come for the food or the atmosphere, or a bit of both, you will be sure to leave with a full belly and a light heart at this magical Japanese restaurant.

Apparently it gets really crowded at dinner time on the weekends so we had a great experience with it being less busy. The servers were all cheerful, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is bright and colorful with a strong cartoony Japanese theme. Not a place I'd recommend for an intimate date (it gets loud in there!), but more for a group of fun-loving friends and/or family. We ordered a couple rounds each of chicken, beef and vegetable gyoza. All were tasty, but I personally preferred the chicken gyoza over the rest. Make sure to get your gyoza grilled, not poached! We also ordered some agadashi tofu which - word of advice for anyone with a palate like myself and the rest of my party - comes garnished with "fish flakes" which I found to be pretty atrocious. Next time I'll request it without :-) The chicken teriyaki was just okay, and very different from the teriyaki we have in California. The steamed edamame was fresh. The Kirins were flowing so generously that I lost count (thanks, Uncle Ben!). Also, order sake. Just do it.
