Still loving this place!!! I want to try EVERYTHING on the menu It really isn't fancy... the ambience is very casual. We were using paper plates and plastic forks/spoons for the kids, but the flavor/deliciousness of the food sure does make up for it! My kids got the ramen and steamed dumplings which were both amazing. The broth for the ramen was yummy.

Might be one of the best (or at least most authentic) korean spots I've been to in Jax yet! While the food itself isn't necessarily the best I've ever had, I think their charm comes from the friendly owner who makes sure you have everything you need and who stops by to chat if you're willing. And the care that they put into their food, ensuring care goes into the quality of their dishes. I also really love just how many options there are on the menu. I already want to go back to try more dishes. Some dishes I wanna highlight are the tangsuyuk and the jajangmyeon. Would def get those again. I ordered the budae-jjigae and while it was really good, it's basic enough that if you're going out to eat it may not be as worth it.

Came here on a Friday for dinner and we were the only non-Korean customers at that time, so we knew we were getting the real deal! My husband ordered the Pork Bulgogi and it comes with rice, kimchi, and another pickled vegetable. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion. Generous servings of pork and it was delicious! I got the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap, however, I would've preferred more meat. The flavors though, are on point! My meal also comes with a side of kimchi, and I must say, it's the best I have ever had! I want to go back and try their soups and the black bean noodles! So many options and more reason to return!

After seeing a couple of people post about this new Korean restaurant, I had to go check it out and give you the real skinny. Tucked away in a strip mall in Mandarin, you'll find Kimchi Korean. I was absolutely blown away it wasn't just another fad fusion "Korean" joint. This is the closest you'll get to an actual fast casual Korean restaurant in Korea. The owners previously owned a spot in Orange Park for the last eight years but decided to change it up. The husband and wife duo reign from both Daegu and Daejon (if you're Korean, you know this is a good thing). Most restaurant owners stateside special in Seoul style cuisine which is way more muted and toned down. This is not that. I started with their Haejanguk (hangover soup). Nice blend of soybean and spice. Is it the best I've ever had? No. But is it delicious for $18.99? Yes. The owners apologized for the styrofoam as their actual dishes have not yet arrived. Their kimchi is made in house and it's actually GOOD! I don't love fresh kimchi, but theirs slaps. I also got a tuna kimbap roll to go as well as their spicy rice cakes (tteokbokki). The kimbop is the same price as Lotte mart, but 100% better. Stuffed with actual meat, not filler. Their tteokbokki is the best I've had in Jacksonville. The levels of umami are unmatched. After chatting with the owners in my limited Korean for nearly an hour, I can tell you they are very good and honest people. Their food is good. I asked them their proudest dishes and they both said their Champong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and jajangmyeon (black bean noodles). I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. But for now, this is my new Korean spot.

This cute little strip mall hideaway will turn your world on end!!! I am a fool for Korean food. And while I cook it quite well on my own, sometimes you like to take a break and enjoy someone else's culinary artistry. This quick Korean spot masterfully delivers! So let's jump in.. Food-100/10. Growing up on Korean food and cooking it quite well myself, it's always hard for me to swoon over a place. I did t just swoon here, I died and went to heaven. For my first visit I went for a staple bulgogi and a side a yaki mandu (fried dumplings). They offer it spicy if you like it that way and I like it that way. Unlike some places where they serve a baseline dish and add spice to your desire and it often feels a little disjointed, here it's one perfect flavor profile. The bulgogi was thin and tender and juicy while the dumplings were crisp on the outside and juicy and flavorful inside. The kimchi served with the bulgogi is fresh and perfect. An unworldly flavor explosion in your mouth. They also served a pickled Korean daikon and onion banchan on the side and it was so tangy and tart. They sent me home with another side of the banchans too. Service-10/10. Sweet and personable. They were so kind and welcoming. I loved chatting with them. It was like stepping into omma's kitchen for a family meal. Atmosphere-10/10. It's nestled in a nice location in a clean well kept strip mall. While it doesn't have a ton of seating, it's comfortable and clean inside. Already planning on being back this weekend with my whole family!!!

Just stopped to get a menu and could not resist ordering after speaking to the lady behind the counter. And WOW, very fresh and flavorful dishes just like it was when o was working in Korea. Large servings and great spice package. Restaurant had photos of dishes for those who may not be familiar with Korean cuisine. Nice cozy seating to sit and enjoy your meal or take away. Korean food, prepared by people who know how to prepare Korean food.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Jacksonville. Yes, competitions are nothing to brag about in Jax but this place is quickly becoming best Korean joint in Jax. Place is nothing fancy, almost feel like a fast food joint with plenty of Korean street food but also serves most of regular Korean dishes. Had Jjamppong today for lunch. It was not salty, plenty of stuff (no shell stuff) in the soup, and spicy. Enjoyed every bit of it. 3 bonchon items but expected such for Jjamppong. More than what you get at the Lotte food court. Only downside is this place is at the one of the worst traffic area in Jax. Otherwise, great place to enjoy Korean food.

The side dishes were very flavorful, and I also purchased two drinks that were absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and provided good customer service throughout my visit. The only thing is that they told me that they do not clean tripe in Korea which was hard to believe. I do want to share a concern regarding the preparation of the tripe soup. After beginning the meal, I noticed that the tripe did not appear to have been cleaned. At first, I wondered if this was simply the restaurant's style of preparation, but after researching further, I learned that improperly cleaned tripe can be both unpleasant and potentially unsafe to consume because tripe comes from the stomach lining of the animal. Uncleaned tripe may still contain food residue, digestive material, parasites, worms, bacteria, and strong bile or waste odors. This can potentially lead to issues such as foul smell, unpleasant taste, food poisoning, bacterial contamination including E. coli or Salmonella, and symptoms such as stomach cramps, vomiting, or diarrhea. Proper cleaning is generally considered an essential part of preparing tripe, especially in professional restaurants where customers would quickly notice if the cleaning process was incomplete. Overall, I appreciated the kindness of the staff, the quality of the drinks, and the excellent side dishes. I am only sharing my personal experience and concern specifically regarding the preparation of the tripe soup.

We ordered the squid stir fry and pork ribs, and the flavors were great, but there were some differences in the dishes. Squid stir fry: This dish was incredible--definitely the best in Jacksonville. The squid was tender and perfectly cooked, not chewy at all. The stir fry had an amazing balance of spices, and there were no fillers like rice cakes or too many vegetables drowning out the squid's flavor. The dish was packed with flavor, and each bite was a combination of savory, spicy, and a slight sweetness that complemented the seafood perfectly. It was the standout dish of the meal and one I'll definitely be coming back for. Pork ribs: While the ribs were tender, they were too sweet for my liking, and the flavor felt a bit one-dimensional. The sauce was heavy on the sweetness, which made the ribs feel a little cloying after a while. They could benefit from a bit more balance with some acidity or spice. In terms of portions, Kim's Korean BBQ is generous. The rice comes in a half bowl, so you'll need to order more if you're craving extra, and the Bonchon (fried chicken) is only available with a full meal or as an additional charge, which is something to keep in mind. The prices are on the pricier side, especially when compared to other Korean places in town, but the taste and authenticity make it worth it. The owners are Korean and will speak to you in Korean if you're comfortable with the language. The staffing was a little overwhelmed, as the lady owner seemed to be doing most of the work, and at one point, you could hear her directing her husband at the register to assist with various tasks. This led to a bit of a longer wait for the food, but it was understandable given that they were a bit understaffed. One thing I really appreciated was the cleanliness of the place. Kim's is one of the cleaner Korean restaurants in the area, which is always a plus. Despite the staffing hiccups and the slightly sweet pork ribs, the overall experience was great. I'll definitely be coming back for that squid stir fry and to try more of their authentic dishes!

Whenever I leaned toward a 4, I found…read morethat I needed to leave out my feelings about fighting with the food I eat, which is difficult for me! But that's on me, not the restaurant. And the food, of which this is a hot pot cook and serve yourself full service restaurant has to be considered in my scoring and graded on that. Now, speaking of service, it was outstanding from the door greeter, our server, and having an opportunity to speak with the manager, I will say that the courtesy and attention to detail was evident throughout the eating cooking and eating experience. It has been a few years since I had eaten in this type of restaurant, and being it was my birthday, I kind of said "Oh no!" To myself as I knew what I was in for. But with the psychological game I was playing inside my head, I instantly made a shift and determined to make it a fun and enjoyable experience. It worked! Except my dearest was having difficulty chewing the meat. But again this was not due to the quality of the meats we chose, it was something else. But the food was very good. I loved the appetizers that came with our dinner at the start. I'm scared to eat kimchi because it's often fire on my tongue! But not this time - there was a little heat in most of the appetizers, but nothing that I couldn't handle. It's good to see the restaurant holding back some of the heat to help those who desire less burn from the taste. Now the meats we had all cooked well and timely in the pot. They did sneak a little Mexican in the meat choices with the pollo (chicken) asado! They had al pastor as well, and thought I had ordered it, but it didn't show up. Now, I would say on the pollo asado offering that I felt the spicing was a little too heavy. It was good and I do miss Mexican cuisine from my years in San Diego. We also had pork belly, which I didn't try because I don't eat pork, but it was a good looking option for those who do like it. Now I will say that I did really like the beef bulgogi - was nicely marinated and pretty tender and not overly chewy. Now, I will say that there were only two of us, but I think we would have fared better being in a group of four or more. I will say that the large padded seating booths are pretty awesome! We needed a lot of room to set all the appetizers and choices we made. I also wish I had gotten to try the carne asada and al pastor. But that's for another day :D I do love the ambiance of Gen Korean BBQ. It's modern in appearance. The spacing is good and it's very well-managed and the care in cleanliness is highly visible. It wasn't a busy time when we visited Gen, but we got to see others enjoying their meals here - and most clearly were large groups that seemed to know the drill better that we did at this type of restaurant. With Gen being in Town Center, I have to finally say that the price of the meal was very reasonable, especially when you have a complete menu to choose many items from. It was impressive. If you like Korean BBQ and restaurants of this type, you owe it to yourself to make a visit (and try to get a small group together to go with you)! Recommend: HIGH

The food was ready faster than the 15 minutes quoted, which was great. I enjoyed the bulgogi. It was tender and had good flavor. The pickled veggies and kimchi were the most flavorful sides. I also liked the japchae. The dumpling was too greasy, as evidenced by the grease in the wrapper and the egg and rice didn't have much flavor. The egg needed salt.
