It was an American Pale Ale. I've had Schlafly APA. My favorite is 4 Hands' City Wide. Loop's APA tasted extremely bland. No hop flavor to it. And a touch of sweetness. Very strange. Even stranger, it was room temperature. For food, I had the steak wrap with a side salad. The ranch dressing was tasty. The steak was dry and bland. Definitely need something to help it out. All in all, I was not impressed. I want to go back and try the pizza. I may have just ordered the wrong thing.

However when you reach the register to order, you realize things are a bit different here, and that's a great thing. Front and center in the back of house, a large nitrogen tank the height of an average 5th greater boasts made to order ice cream created in a non-traditional format. Due to this unique process, customers can choose between thousands of flavor combinations to satisfy their sweet tooth. I was craving something lighter, so I ordered a lemon flavored ice cream with strawberries. My fellow ice cream seekers ordered a "galaxy creation" called "Peanut Butter Explosion", and the other ordered hazelnut with sprinkles. Because the ice cream is made to order with nitrogen, the texture isn't quite like regular ice cream, but that isn't a bad thing- the texture is reminiscent of baseball dip n' dots. I really enjoyed what I ordered. Also- the portion sizes are huge and match the prices well. This is a fantastic business, and I wish them all the best as they establish themselves in McCook. If the crowd present when I was there was any indicator, they'll do just fine!

Diamond in the rough…read more Knowlen and Yeats brings back memories of what towns were like before Wal-Mart brought the tidal wave of mediocrity across the Midwest. It's hard to find someplace with some real quality goods in SW Nebraska or NW Kansas, but Knowlen and Yates fits the bill. The owner, Mike Ford, knows his stuff and is an avid connoisseur of all things that play on the palate. Expect a great deal of knowledge and friendly demeanor from this establishment. I know the place and people. I'm the first to review, so I figure I should do it the justice it deserves.

On arrival, there wasn't anyone in the main office / tasting area but there were instructions on how to reach them as they were on the grounds. It wasn't necessary tho, as they popped in while we were still orienting ourselves. We showed the passport and said we weren't sure what it was good for here, (other distilleries offer cocktails as bogo in the passport but this isn't a bar-style... turns out it's bogo tastings) We sampled a fair amount, chatted about our mutual love of travel &, of course, booze. There were products we weren't familiar with, such as vodka from grapes & blue corn whiskey - we bought both, as well as a lovely brandy & angry squirrel walnut liqueur, which we're excited to turn into something fun. Bonus: our tastings were comped! A really cool and informative stop!

Our liquor cabinet now holds the finest (and only) Chokecherry Brandy I've ever tasted, Milo Whiskey that we'd never heard of and of course the Grape Vodka that will be sipped with joy! He's doing absolutely amazing things with the local ingredients and I can't wait to get my hands on a bottle of his absinthe!
