As an aficionado of coconut ice cream I must confess I went back 2 days in a row for it at Kilwins. I even sampled at a competitor close by and it didn't compare. The good: The hot Florida weather demands ice cream. I tried s'mores, mint chocolate and mud (vanilla with caramel and chocolate chips). The waffle cones tasted great. They were crispy and not frail nor too thick and hard. It had great flavor. This spot's located in downtown so it's a nice area to walk around and shop. They sold lots of chocolates too. The service was quick. My mother-in-law enjoyed her raspberry and chocolate ice cream. They have a no sugar added ice cream option as well. They also sell ice cream cake. The bad: The flavor options weren't too unique or interesting. The mint chocolate could've used more mint flavor. It mostly tasted sweet without a lot of other flavor. They didn't have indoor nor outdoor seating but there was a bench outside. I wish the s'mores had more graham cracker flavor. Well I stopped in here tonight to grab an ice cream cone. I looked up and down at the flavors and decided on turtle cheesecake double scoop waffle cone. The lady was ringing it up before I ever saw a price and when she told me the price, I almost cancelled the order. 10 dollars for an ice cream cone. Apparently this location opens at 11:30am instead of the 11:00 posted on their site. Rude young man kept shaking his head at us while we looked in the windows. Instead of poking his head out and telling us that it didn't open until 11:30 AM, he went in the back printed out a piece of paper that said open at 11:30 and posted it on the door. Wonderful fudge I walked in expecting to get some ice cream but hesitated at the display case of a large number of fudge choices. Kilwin's makes their fudge in the store, to the delight of tourists and others watching the process. My wife had made sure I missed out on leftover Halloween candy this year and a piece of fudge sounded perfect. It probably helped that there was not the smell of waffle cones in the air that you often find at a Kilwin's. I got my wedge of fudge placed in a nice box and brought it home, where I enjoyed a small piece and look forward to more later. It quickly melts in your mouth leaving pieces of pecans behind. Hi first time ever for kilwins will tell everyone dont go. Tonight got 2 cones one waffle and one sugar cone the waffle cone was so stale and sugar cone they gave was a wafer cone also stale. Kilwin's has locations at several beach towns and is always a must stop when visiting. They hand make all their fudge and treats and you can watch their handiwork if you happen to be walking by at the right time. They have traditional flavors like sea salt chocolate and peanut butter and interesting flavors like toasted coconut. Their other treats include Carmel and chocolate covered apples, chocolate covered pretzels, ice cream, bon bons, turtles and more. I got the pecan turtles and raspberry bon bons on this visit and they didn't disappoint! At $33 a pound, they are rather pricey but the treats are so great and those are typical prices at a prime beach location. I always ask for a glass of ice water too because the treats are so sweet. They always have a candy maker in the window whipping up some type of fresh treat. Their glass cases full of chocolate covered treats are very appealing to the eye. I remember passing a Kilwin's during the summer at St. Armands Circle. The line was out the door, causing my curiosity to peak as I wondered what kind of delicious desserts this place had in store. I was pleasantly informed that they had another one in Venice, so needless to say I had to give it a try! Upon entering you are not only greated with the sweetest smells you can imagine, but you also get to choose from their wide selection of desserts, ice-cream, candies, fudge and other various merchandise for purchase. I held myself back from buying out the entire store's fudge supply and settled on some icecream. Everybody in my party loved their icecream choices, they also had a few unique selections that are available for you to taste if you are interested. The toppings and sauces aren't clearly listed on the board, so be sure to ask to make your icecream sundae as epic as possible (I asked for marshmellow sauce, which was AWESOME). They don't have a huge selection of candied toppings, surprisingly, but they have enough of a selection to make a decent sundae. My sundae was so great, my family and I came back a few days later to enjoy the experience again! Heads up that it definitely can get crowded in there. Both times we walked in and it was empty...then a few minutes later there was a huge rush of people. I am not sure how to overcome that, but just always be prepared for it! My impression of Kilwin's just went down the toilet. I first at here several years ago when my parents moved to town and thought it was tasty and high quality. I still think it's tasty by low quality based on what I learned today. I told my wife I didn't want the coffee or cappuccino chip because I didn't want the caffeine because I didn't want to be up all night. One of the employees overheard me and said, "don't worry, there's no caffeine." When I asked how that could be, she cheerfully replied, "it's made with artificial ingredients." At about $4 a scoop, I would think that the price was justified by the ingredients. I could put my dirty foot in chocolate and it might taste ok by these standards. read more

I saw someone making caramel dipped apples through the front window, and I had to go in! There were lots of chocolate dipped sweet sugary treats in display cases and I had a hard time deciding on what to try. My husband tried the chocolate almond bark and loved it. I tried the chocolate covered Nutter Butter with milk chocolate. It was the nice little chocolate treat to satisfy my craving for something sugary. The woman working at the counter was nice and patient with us as we gawked at all of our options. I would like to go back and try out their other options. The prices are a little high, and I'd like to see what all the hype is about their ice cream (I'm an ice cream snob). I enjoyed checking out their packaged gifts and treats.
