It's like they have about 10 flavors available so it's not like you have that many testers you would want, but only One is rude. Then the cup is tiny for one serving and it's $5. They do not split flavors either. If you want 2 flavors split there an up charge for it. It is nice they have small tables and chairs outside to enjoy the miniature cup of gelato. Now I understand why it's dead inside and they are literally next door to a bustling Italian restaurant. This is in the heart of downtown Venice. Buyer beware: they don't have marshmallow topping. But if you're willing to pass on that then they have what you want. Large or small, for some reason no medium cups. Oh and no samples allowed. I often wonder the back story on that. My recommendation would be the peanut butter. We had a large and a small for $16. Apparently the price of milk has gone up and the cows are demanding to be compensated. But if you're in the area then Ciao Gelato is the place to stop in and enjoy. read more

We stopped in to Ciao for some gelato and a little pick me up for myself, I saw they had affagatto so I decided to add butterfingers instead of being traditional. I will say the pull of espresso was very harsh I did however try to mix the gelato in more to help but I could taste it throughout. They've changed, portion sizes are now minuscule. They literally scrape the top off so the gelato is level with the top of the cup. Well this place went downhill:( our ho to place when we came to Venice. Haven't been here in a year or so and this time our experience was disappointing. They didn't give out samples; we got three different flavors in a bigger cup and it had no flavor and consistency was bad; to the point we threw it away. Our daughter ate a few bites of hers and we also tossed it. My husband got a banana pie only to find out it was more like a key lime so they gave him money back. The service wasn't friendly and exciting, and the place was dead. No music, nothing; just a stare from the other side of the counter. We walked down to the Venice Avenue Creamery and it was amazing; it will be our new go to place for sure! I returned here for another sweet treat. I had a waffle cone with limoncello and banana cream gelato ($6.50?). The staff actually asked which flavor of gelato I preferred on the bottom, which I thought was nice. I did not have a preference. Regarding the taste of each flavor, I definitely enjoyed the banana cream more. Both were good, but the banana cream was just creamier to me. The limoncello was very powerful and I thought it had more of a feel to an Italian ice texture. The texture did not bother me, but that was the reason I preferred the banana cream. read more

Hazelnut Gelato taste good. My cake cone was stale. It's my first time in the shop, I feel like I was being rushed ordering. I didn't see they charged 3.75% for credit card use. Please bring cash when you visit the shop. They don't do sample tasting. It will be a good idea to to look at the flavors online before going. Cold and Refreshing After dinner last night we made our way down W Venice Ave to Ciao Gelato, looking for dessert. I went for the Salted Caramel and it was cold and refreshing. I'm not a gelato expert, but as a kid at heart I thought it was creamy and I loved the flavor. They do not have much room inside for seating, but we lined up in chairs along the wall to enjoy our frozen treats. We watched as customers came and went, all good interactions with the staff. If I was given the opportunity to try the flavors, I ultimately would not have picked this based on its texture alone. The berry was luscious creamy and smooth.and very good . Made my choice that much more sad. We chose this spot over nearby. Venice creamery as there was not a long wait. But ultimately, I don't know if I would return again, not being able to sample the flavors. This is just such a part of the experience and without a sample it's very hard to choose the best option.
