We stopped in while visiting Spearfish after reading the great reviews. We were so impressed which isn't easy. We shared the Red Pepper Calamari appetizer and the Brisket Dip sandwich with fries. The calamari had a great flavor and not too spicy. The brisket was melt in your mouth, not at all tough. The dip (au jus) was very flavorful. Beers were cold and waitress attentive. We stopped into Killian's while passing through Spearfish based on good Yelp reviews. We were looking for something more than just burgers and fries and we really hit the jackpot with this place. To start, I had their BeeKnees gin and tonic and it was delicious and tart, yet smooth. My husband ordered the wild blackened salmon and raved about it with every bite. I ordered the Curry noodles with steak and broccoli which was really great too. I had to get a spoon from the waitress so I could eat up all the yummy curry sauce. Even though it was busy there on a Sunday night, we were greeted warmly, seated right away, and our server was very pleasant. There was a slight mix up on our order for which the waitress apologized and immediately made right on many levels which is exactly what we would hope for. In small-town-America, you can sometimes find hidden gems that have great food, service, and drinks. And sometimes you find absolute crap. This place is definitely part of the former. I would definitely frequent Killian's if I lived in Spearfish. We ordered a great local beer, a calamari appetizer, a hamburger, and the bangers and mash. All of it was delicious. Those are three very different dishes, yet all of them were fresh, had great flavor, and had great portions. The burger was actually well-done. It wasn't charred and it was well cooked with a slight amount of pink. The meat was delicious and incredibly flavorful. The breading on the calamari was delicious and light. They were fried perfectly and weren't too chewy or too hard. The bangers and mash had a lovely gravy and the cabbage was perfectly cooked (without being soggy.) It also has a great atmosphere and the sort of place where I could sit and have a beer all afternoon. This is definitely the sort of place where it would be great to be a regular. read more

5 star review on Yelp proves to be a great find. We visited 2 nights from Texas and ate at Killians both nights. Every local we talked to, agreed this was the best food in town. We split 2 meals between 3 people and had plenty to eat. The Alley Cat Surf and Turf was a great piece of meat (you would not have guessed it was sirloin) and the cod was very flavorful. The Steak Tips were even more flavorful with a sauce that would make one double dip. Finish up with the Bananas Foster and don't forget to try Spearfish's local brew, "Crow Creek". Stayed at an Airbnb a couple weeks back & unfortunately we didn't try this place until our last day in town... easily the best restaurant in Spearfish! We only came for lunch, but it was delicious! We started w/ the Cobb salad, which was great, & then moved onto the calamari. While the Red Chili Calamari was a bit more on the spicy side than I usually like, it was still delicious... especially the heads! My wife got one of the burgers & loved it. Definitely a good selection of different varieties of burger choices. I've never had steak tips before (until a week before here at a place in Deadwood), but these are awesome!!! The ones I had in deadwood were breaded & fried & were really good, but they don't even compare to the ones here... which surprised me because I certainly love my fried food. The Deadwood ones were breaded & fried, but these are sauteed in garlic, bacon & topped w/ bleu cheese crumbles. I assumed I wouldn't like Killian's as much, but wanted to try them for comparison & boy was I happy! Each ingredient had a distinct flavor from one another, but created a perfect combination that complimented the entire dish. If I ever make it back to S. Dakota (hope hope), I'll come here & order these again. I usually like to try new things at places I've been before, but if I'm this far from home again, I'm having these.
