If you have never stayed on a real Irish farm, then this is your chance. Kilcannon House is a centuries old farmhouse with outbuildings surrounded by fields. They don't have any working farm animals anymore other than some chickens. Those birds will run up to you looking for a handout and you will hear the roosters crowing softly as soon as the sun comes up. That's just what happens on a farm. Our host and hostess have many interesting stories so spend the time to talk to them.
The house itself is very old and there are antiques in most rooms. However, your room will be quite modern with a modern bathroom. You can see a picture of our spacious room on Yelp. The bathroom was very large with a walk-in shower. There was a towel heater for your bath towel.
The highlight of our stay, however, was the breakfast. The inn owners ran a restaurant downtown so they really know food. You can see what we started with at breakfast in the photo and that is before she began to cook. In the center is an Italian panna cotta with banana slices and pomegranate seeds that was very interesting and tasty. Gertie had numerous home-made conserves, compotes, and chutneys to accompany other dishes. I had kippers for the main course and they were prepared perfectly. This was a memorable breakfast. read more
