Called them and asked if Gaurdian PPO plan is accepted and in network, they said Yes. Booked and appointment and 2 days before the appointment, representative called and said we called Gaurdian and they said you are filly covered, however you have out of pocket of $190. I was confused and asked how do i have out of pocket for cleaning service and that when she said we are out of network with them. If i had not know that my cleaning is free with insurance, i would have paid thinking its out of pocket. Why not directly say upfront that we do not accept this insurance ? One positive thing is that called me and informed about out of pocket before the actual appointment to avoid confusion. read more

I just came in the other day and I had a dental hygenist I'd never seen before. Despite not making any small talk (and I'm talking not even telling me her name), the hygenist proceeded to make fun of my teeth over an oral surgery I had to have in the past. As if that wasn't bad enough, she proceeded to call in another woman, someone I would assume is another hygenist, and told her the situation to which they laughed together right in front of me. It was ironic that they would make fun of my teeth when I have literally had all of my dental procedures done at Kidzdent (besides my oral surgery) my whole life. Definitely offputting. Also ironic because the doctor who saw me right after told me I had beautiful teeth.. someone needs to keep their staff in check. read more

I'm super excited to be working with the amazing orthodontists and staff over at KidZdent! I reached out to them several months ago as an adult patient who, like many, went through a ton of orthodontic work as a child/teen and then didn't wear retainers for long enough to keep my teeth from moving. Fast forward to today, I'm 28 years old and my teeth have shifted considerably! (Grrrr, such a pain) I really wanted to correct my smile but my orthodontist retired and I wasn't sure where to go. I was referred to this practice through a good friend of mine who has BEAUTIFUL perfect straight teeth and she swore that Dr. Villa would take good care of me. She was absolutely right! From the moment I visited the office, I was impressed. It's clean, well-organized and very professional. My orthodontic treatment coordinator, Carolanne Davison, could not be more helpful throughout this entire process. I originally intended on pursuing treatment a few months ago, but a shift in jobs forced me to pause my dental endeavors for a bit. When I reached out to Carolanne again, I was a bit nervous since some time had passed and I figured she would write me off as not serious, but I was soooo pleasantly surprised. She remembered exactly who I was and what I wanted and was extremely welcoming. She re-sent me all of the treatment information (Active/Spring retainers for less than a year to fix my shifting) and went over the timeline and pricing. She has made the process seamless and it's barely just begun. I haven't started treatment yet so I will be sure to update my review once I do, but I highly encourage anyone interested in orthodontic services, especially later in life, to consider going to KidZdent. Wow! I am so disappointed. I had the most humiliating experience today at Kidzdent. After so many awesome experiences, I'm so sad to be saying goodbye. My son chipped his tooth in school on Monday. Of course, I called Kidzdent. It had been a while since we'd visited for insurance reasons, but they didn't make it awkward at all. I was informed that there was an outstanding balance on my account, which was pretty embarrassing, and surprising. I'd always paid on my way out. Turns out there'd been some procedure they'd said would be covered and it wasn't. Mistakes happen. Egg on my face, I paid as soon as I checked in for my son's appointment. They were sweet. In fact, this appointment went along quite smoothly. I really love mostly all of the staff. The problem happened on the next appointment, 2 days later-- Because they really are awesome at fitting you in. I brought the school's accidental insurance paperwork with me. Now I've never had to use it before, so I just followed the instructions and gave it to the receptionist upon our arrival. I was actually pretty stoked because we've been saving up our FSA money for some medical expenses, and we've been lucky to not have any emergencies this year. She'd never seen it before, so she took the paperwork and said she'd give it back to me shortly. While my son was getting his tooth fixed, I was beckoned out of the room by the receptionist. She told me that her manager said that this insurance would take too long to actually send the money, so I should pay out of pocket and seek reimbursement after. She'd be happy to provide me with a detailed receipt with all the codes and everything. I was a little distracted, so I didn't disagree. I guess, it just didn't make sense as I thought about it. If it had been against some policy, or I don't know...but "it would take too long"? Isn't that the entire thing that the insurance processing staff does? And then there was the idea that they thought it would be good customer service to basically say my budget could take a $141 chunk scooped out of my FSA more than theirs could. I was convinced that had to be some kind of mistake. So I asked. At the checkout counter, I asked if that was actually the reason. I was genuinely confused. The manager, Nancy, I believe her name was (although I had to look it up, because it's not like she introduced herself to me or anything), came out of her office, on the defensive. First she said that, "yes, it would take too long." As much as six months, in fact. And would take "a lot of labor". Now I've dealt with insurance companies before, and yeah, it's a pain, but I thought that was the whole point of that department? To process insurance, as a courtesy to the patients, because they are specialists. I mean, I could always pay out of pocket and have my insurance reimburse me. Either way, Nancy then proceeded to try and shame me, by asking if $141 was really something that was a problem for me. Then she tried to embarrass me by bringing up the outstanding balance I'd had. "I just paid that yesterday." (Well, it was Monday, but I forgot in the moment) "Two years?" She said. In front of everyone there! Not once did she offer to bring me into her office to discuss it privately. Right there in front of other staff, and other patients! Then she said, that according to my "record" she didn't think she'd be able to get the insurance to pay her. I couldn't believe it. I'm still shaking. What an amazing lie! By the time she condescended to agree to "attempt" to process the insurance, I was too embarassed, and upset. I told her "Thank you. I will handle it, and I will take my business elsewhere too." She persisted one more time, but I couldn't handle it. I was stern. Clipped even. I cut her off, said "Thank you. I will handle it." In fairness, the receptionist checking me out was still very sweet, and apologetic about the entire thing. It's heartbreaking, but for the staff to attempt to humiliate a patient that way. I've never been treated this way in a professional medical environment. **Update** It's already been almost a year since this happened. Turns out my initial balance was from the time they said my insurance covered sealants for my son, but it turned out to not be the case. Which means they charged me ME the bloated insurance price, and tried to shame ME. Also, my FSA rejected that payment, so they've been harassing me for the balance. In all the letters I received, exactly zero have included an apology. Two weeks ago Nancy left the nastiest message on my voicemail threatening to boot my son from the practice if I didn't pay up. All this "labor" she's had to put in to attempt to get me to pay this bloated cost. Imagine how much easier it would have been if she'd done her job without shaming customers. But I guess my hair is a little too curly, and my skin is the wrong shade to get respect. read more

I am horrified by what I am about to write. I brought my 6 yr old son here . The dentist advised he had 3 cavities ... which I was surprised to hear being she hardly was able to do a good cleaning . My son was scared, not crying or anything of that nature . Just normal anxiety most of us have when going to a new dentist . She didn't not even attempt to do X-rays and suggested we sedate him and deal with the three cavities she said he has . Okay .... so I asked about the sedation process . She then explains that he will be "darted " and the child will not even know ." Whattttt at that point I'm thinking okay where am I . Darted ? Like an animal. ? Very unprofessional and my son is right there while she is saying all this . I'm then asked to go to the mangers office to discuss monetary amount for treatment plan . So anesthesia which is what the dr suggested is not covered $1, 275 plus another $1,100 for 3 cavities and xrays sealants I went home that day in complete shock . I called my girlfriend who's husband is a local orthodontics . He was not surprised when I said kidzdent and asked why I would bring my son there. Well , I took my son for a second opinion obviously. He had a cleaning , X-rays done no problem !! AND NO CAVITIES!!! SHAME ON YOU KIDZDENT !! Wrong diagnosis and putting my son at risk recommending anesthesia for something he didn't need. It was our first visit yesterday and I think it went very well. My daughter is known to be very nervous when it comes to dentists, however our hygienist Amanda made her feel really comfortable, talked her through the whole process and did an amazing cleaning job! The difference between this cleaning and our previous pediatric dentist is tremendous! Amanda really took time and not just polished the teeth and let us go in 10 minutes, but she excavated , and picked and flossed to get rid of all the plaque and tartar in there! My daughter was rewarded with some prizes that she got to pick, small but cute and thoughtful. Overall, very pleasant staff, it was easy to schedule an appointment and even when I had to reschedule front desk really was patient and worked with me well. I really never write reviews but I am still shaking from my experience-- When children are in distress during a cleaning- especially when it is a JUST turned two year old -- who is there for his FIRST cleaning--please don't hold them down and force them to comply !-- especially after the mother who is holding her child tells you not once-- not twice-- but finally had to YELL STOP! the Third time because the hygienist wouldn't listen! I am a hygienist! A child's first experience at the dentist stays with them! A first cleaning for a 2 year old is mainly to get them accommodated and comfortable at the dentist. You count teeth and show them the instruments and if they are too nervous to do a cleaning or finish one-- we try again next time- I'll be going somewhere else the next time. read more

This place is horrendous. The hygienist is rude and the financial manager is even worse. I'm not sure how parents of special needs kids claim to love this place because they are so rude. I brought my kids there even though it was out of network, and when the bill came, I was planning on submitting it to my insurance and seeing what would be paid. Apparently insurance sent me a check for less than 40% of the total bill (they sent $390/900 for cleanings), which I never received. I actually didn't even know about the check until Nancy called and left a voicemail accusing me of stealing it and threatening legal action! Over $390! If this wasn't bad enough, several days later I received a nasty letter once again claiming it was against the law for me to keep the check, accusing me of insurance fraud, and threatening legal action. She reached out to my insurance company to find out they sent the check- all it would've taken was her asking if it was cashed to find out it wasn't. She is the most miserable woman and she should not be allowed to talk to patients read more

First, I want to say how strange I find some of the other reviews of this place! A quick side note before my review, my son was also "strapped down" to have teeth pulled, and the staff made CERTAIN I was VERY well informed about what the were going to do and how they were going to do it. It's called a papoose board, and thousands of other dentists use it. Second, as an Elite Member of Yelp, I hope people take my review quite seriously! My son, who is almost 12 and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury from a car accident at the age of 4, has been going to KidzDent for a few years. This, after multiple years of trial and error in finding "THE" dentist for my son. He does not have behavioral issues, but he has severe speech problems, was in a wheelchair the first time he was seen here, and has some sensory problems-meaning certain areas on his body are more sensitive than others...particularly, his mouth. Let's start with the absolutely INCREDIBLE waiting room. They have a million different game systems, giant teeth stools to sit and play on, a very clean and well kept toy area, which includes an amazing train table with fully loaded trains-and my favorite: a CASTLE. The staff is simply out-of-this world in dealing with kids that have issues or are playing a little rough. NO kid is getting yelled at here. They are free to enjoy themselves and be kids, which I LOVE! Next, let me say that on this particular visit, I witnessed the staff dealing with what seemed to be a severely autistic young girl. She was wandering all over the office, peeking in on other staff members and checking out the front desk. Her mom was with her every step of the way, but so were a few of the staff members. They were so gentle in talking to her, realized that she probably could not handle being touched, and talked with mom to try and coax her back into the dental chair. I was so taken aback by the compassion. Being a special needs mom, you just can't find this kind of care just anywhere. On a visit before today, I ran into an issue with our insurance company. We had so much going on at the time, I was not that great in getting back to the office about what needed to be done. They very graciously put us on an interest-free payment plan, and have been working with me every step of the way to remedy our insurance error. Not ONCE was I made to feel bad, or that my son would not be welcome there because of any outstanding balances. They truly are kind people here. Also, as your child grows, special needs or not, KidzDent grows with you! You can be seen upstairs for young adult dental care-INCLUDING seeing their orthodontist! Yes, your special loved one can successfully wear and care for braces and have that beautiful smile! (I know we can't wait for this for our son!) Lastly, as I said in the beginning of my review, my son has had teeth extracted here about a year or more ago. We have scheduled him for another extraction in May. I cannot begin to tell you how utterly thorough these staff members, hygienists, and doctors are in telling you every detail of what is going to happen to your child. My son was under sedation, which can be very dangerous, and I was able to see him as he went under, and what they strapped him in to do the extractions. He was never treated badly or traumatized in ANY way. He has a very hard time walking, and obviously because he was sedated, this was even more difficult. The staff at Kidzdent helped me get a wheelchair, get my son in it, and even helped me get him into my car because I was alone with him. Where are you going to get care like that? Nowhere in NJ but here-trust me, I have looked! We have since moved to Lakehurst, which is almost exactly an hour away from this office, and I will tell you what: I will never switch to anywhere else. Kidzdent is WORTH THE DRIVE. The way my entire family is treated here goes above and beyond what you would find anywhere else, and that's an Elite Member's TRUTH. ;) read more

Two times out of two times my son got a really bad bacterial infection after his cleaning here. He has gone to a previous dentist since he was 2 without any issue or ever getting a bacterial infection before. His previous dentist moved to another state which is why we went to this office. The office manager is extremely unprofessional. In my opinion I am not sure how she still has a job there still to be honest. The office handled the situation extremely badly. In one breath the office manager said it's probably caused from the flouride treatment they used. The next breath she claimed it did not happen in their office. Contracting.....My sons face was extremely swollen after his cleaning. Not going back!!! read more

Hi if I can give more than five stars to kidzdent I would love to give it my story stars when my 2 year old daughter wasn't able to talk well I was wondering what was the problem. I called her pediatrician she suggested that she needs speech therapy I brought it for her but still she didn't improve until one day I read that the tie tong is one of the problems that led to speech difficulties I checked her mouth and she had it ,i had two other daughters they did braces on kids dent I asked them if they do the tongue ties they said yes, I booked the appointment and we did the surgery with doctor (lirie cekalniku)the doctor was very nice helpful and knowledgeable. the nurses were very helpful and nice we had a very nice surgery and a good follow up and after 2 months my daughter started to talk clearly she lost her anger the tongue tie surgery was a game changer for my daughter and for me us well one day i thought that maybe my daughter she is autistic because she has a very angry child and I didn't know that the tongue tie is one of the small problems that maybe you can't notice in your child but this small problem lead to a big problem speech,if your child can't speak and express himself that Lead to anger issues and if you don't do the surgery in the early age tongue tie can damage his speech and the tongue stay small the more you fo it early the more you kids can be free to speak and her tongue grows this way you child can speak well without any difficulties ,today I did the tongue tie surgery for my second baby with kids dent and with the same doctor,it was a pleasure to work with them we are more than satisfied with the doctor the nice people who are in front of the desks try call us to remind us a day before the appointment they are ver nice and smiling the hole service is amazing we can't ask you for more keep your great job coming we love you kids dent read more

I had the honor of visiting and shadowing Dr.Brunsden at his beautiful clinic in Old Bridge last week and it was such an enriching experience to watch him and his staff work with the children. The office is extremely warm and welcoming and the front desk staff are polite and efficient. The waiting area is equipped with games and iPads to let the children settle in and be at ease. The children seem happy to come into the office as the whole experience of visiting a dentist is now an exciting thing to do. The waiting area plays Dr.Brunsden's oral health education and awareness videos that are informative and entertaining. The staff at KidZdent amazed me. They are enthusiastic, warm and terrific at their job. The whole team runs like a well oiled machine. There were no backed up patients, which is quite a surprise in a clinic with such high volume. The hygienists are wonderful and make sure the children enjoy the treatment. A pediatric dentist immediately examines the child once the cleaning is done and treatment plans. The software they use along with Dr.Brunsden's little tweaks make the entire treatment planning and record keeping efficient and effective. I also had the opportunity to speak with some parents who had nothing but good words about the clinic, the staff and their child's dental office experience which they claim they have never had in any other office. The staff focuses on building trust and relationship with the children wiping out fear and apprehension of the whole dental experience. Each instrument is introduced to the child, making him/her well aware avoiding surprises. Dr.Brunsden makes it a point to talk to all children and most of the parents if he is at the office. His commitment and passion towards dentistry and children, even 40 years later, is absolutely commendable. His inspiring and motivating words along with good humor, leaves the child with a smile and something to ponder on. In addition to the pediatric office, there is Dr.Villa's orthodontics office on the upper level. It is beautiful, pleasant and very well organized. Unfortunately, it was a day off for the orthodontist's office and I did not have a chance to see them at work. I am so glad I had a chance to visit and see this "Disneyland of Dentistry" for myself. read more

KidZdent has always exceeded my expectations for my children. My 4 y/o daughter has so much fun there she says she has a toothache just so I can take her to the dentist. My 2 y/o son is not as outgoing as my daughter. He went for his first checkup and although he cried the whole time due to his fear of strangers, he managed to calm down quickly at one of the toy stations and smiled at the nurse after. They talked me through the entire procedure and gave lots of advice for my son. I've had traumatic experiences at the dentist as a child and I don't want my children going through the same. Not impressed with this place at all! I brought my 3 boys for initial appointments a few months ago and the itemized bill was crazy. I wasn't given any options but was billed for extra services provided without my permission. Why do they administer nitrous oxide without permission, especially for a simple procedure? I specifically told them NOT to give my son the laughing gas and they did anyway and of course billed me. This place is so money hungry, it's insane. Oh yeah and I was told that my son with special needs would need a frunectomy that is simply cosmetic (definitely not necessary) and of course I would be responsible for the bill. Yeah, ok... not necessary. I'm running back to their wonderful dentist in Staten Island where we used to go to. read more

From the moment you walk in, the staff greets you with energy and ease. The play area immediately sets the tone for any child to feel like the dentist's office is not a scary place. The hygienists and doctors all joked and played with my children throughout the checkup and cleaning and my son didn't even notices anything was being done. We have been going to Kidzdent since our son was a year old. Each visit has been a great experience! Our son is 3 now and Irene, one of the hygienists, does a great job introducing every tool to his little hand before putting it in his mouth. He is starting to build trust and get as comfortable at the dentist office as he is at the pediatrician. Simply the best pediatric dentist I have ever know. Dr. Brunsden and his team are excellent. My daughter has been going there for 2 years now. The whole office is extremely friendly, warm and very polite. The office is equipped with lots of games, iPads to make children feel at ease and happy. The care they provide children especially the ones with special needs is beyond amazing! My daughter is known to be very nervous and anxious with procedures and I have been amazed how wonderful she did with all of them just because Dr. Brunsden takes the time to explain everything and makes her feel so comfortable the whole time. She had her molars sealed, a frenulectomy and finally yesterday she had her partial braces. AMAZING!!! My daughter is beyond happy with her braces and she loves Dr. Brunsden. We have been clients of Kidzdent for the last two years and our experiences with the staff and doctors have been really nice. But recently my child had a cleaning. Now my child is fearful of the dentist, but reluctantly went knowing they wanted to have a cleaner brighter smile. Kidzdent uses a report card system now where your child is rated at how well they brush their teeth and overall cleaning. My child was humiliated by this system when receiving a failing grade on their report card and it was said publicly for all to hear. This is not a way to get kids to want to come to the dentist if they are judged so harshly. I'm going to really think strongly about having my child return for the same treatment if this report card system still exists. Interesting that when she saw the dentist a few minutes later he said she had no cavities and gave her a great review on her teeth. Please go back to no report cards for the children so they don't feel bad about their teeth. Kids need encouragement not judgement. read more

I had braces in my late 30s and I was treated with the utmost respect and friendliness from the staff and the doctors. If I ever had any problems with my braces, I was always seen the day I called!! Now my 11 year old son started the process of braces. Once again, the staff and doctors have been fabulous. They are patient and reassuring to a very scared little boy. read more

Horrible place and really bad experience. They have a very bad and unprofessional scheduling system, which gave you inconsistency information and caused problems. I scheduled in person an appointment with them for my daughter on Day A. I told them Day B didn't work. They later called my wife to change the schedule to Day B. Later they sent a text message telling us to come on Day A again. Later they blamed us for not showing on Day B. read more

Absolutely, the worst thing I could have done was bring my 5 year old son here for a filling. I write this review a couple years after the treatment because looking back and having consulted with other dentists, I realize what a scam this place is. My son was to get a filling, a routine procedure but for some odd reason it was made into a large production where we came hours earlier, he was given some drink to make him drowsy and then after an hour or so, once he looked like an angry stumbling drunk, he was taken into a room where he was held down by 3-4 people and forcibly strapped down! My terrified child was screaming and struggling at the time that I was asked to leave the room. Shortly after, the procedure was over and my exhausted child returned to me. The dentist said to me afterwards that it all went fine but it probably wasn't a necessary procedure after all! Not what I wanted to hear after paying out of pocket for a large chunk of this (because THEIR billing lady gave me wrong information after speaking to my insurance company). After my initial consultation, I was asked to meet their billing person who said she checked my insurance and said everything was covered. But afterwards, I was billed for hundreds of dollars for that drink and observation of him prior to the filling? Observation?? All he needed was laughing gas to get a filling. What could have been done in 30 minutes took hours and cost me hundreds out of pocket (again thanks to miscommunication on their part). And here's the kicker, the filling fell out a year later! Thankfully, I have a much better dental practice which doesn't find ways to make money at the expense of children. It took my little boy years to get over the trauma but he finally loves going to the dentist. Update: after having spoken to other patients and reading reviews here (including the "not recommended" ones at the bottom), I see that this billing mix up was no accident. It's their normal mode of operation. They tell you to ok a bunch of services insisting it's covered and then bill you later telling you it was a mistake. read more

Besides the fact that this practice has been "well marketed" in the general vicinity, I strongly feel that they are more of a business (hint: dollars and cents - so look at your insurance statement and your bills) than healthcare providers. read more

I have been a patient at KidZdent for my entire life and have always been pleased with my experiences. As a kid I always enjoyed the toys and now video games that are available in the waiting rooms and especially liked the fun colored chairs and mobiles to put kids at ease and make going to the dentist something to look forward to. Growing up, KidZdent has always been a great experience. I even got college advice from Dr. Brunsden. I had my braces done here over ten years ago and am still impressed with the results. While i have never seen another dentist and therefore cannot compare experiences, I can compare mine and my brother's results to those of others who see different dentists and know that we got the best treatment. At age 23, I am so happy that KidZdent has extended their practice to accommodate adults. While I am sometimes still treated in the colorful animal print chairs with mobiles above me, I never feel out of place or more at home than at KidZdent. read more

Get a second opinion. Took my daughter for routine check-up and was told she had defective teeth and need a lot of work done. Also, she had 4 cavities. Took her to my dentist & she did not have "defective teeth" or cavities. read more

Our first experience was great. Not a problem. The dentist was very friendly. We were scheduled for the 6month cleaning and we had to miss it and rescheduled and miss it again. Apparently if you forget to call because you are busy with your sick child and miss the appointment again, you are treated very poorly. I just spoke with a very rude employee and was told I would have to call daily to see if there is appointments available and what not. The tone in her voice completely changed once she replied we missed the appointments and when I went to say goodbye she replied with a "hmmhum" and no good bye. Don't worry kidzdent- we won't be back and will find someone else who understands what having a medically fragile child is like. I hope the staff member that I spoke with sees this as well and is ashamed of herself. read more
