My child has been to a few different daycare programs, including one that's literally 2x the price (Bright Horizons). However, HHP is the only place where my partner and I felt all the teachers (that we've met thus far) have a genuine passion for the kids. At a previous daycare, my child only talked about one teacher who seemed to really care, who unsurprisingly was the only teacher we felt actually enjoyed her job as a preschool teacher. However, at HHP, my child raves about all the teachers. There is a glaring weakness at HHP though, and that's the administration team. Unfortunately, other Yelp feedback about the slow and sometimes lack of responses (via phone or email) are true in my experience. Phone calls or emails go unanswered for days or weeks at a time, if at all. Fortunately, interaction with the admin office are mostly unnecessary after the child is actually enrolled. I'm hoping this area will be improved! If there are any "emergencies" or issues with my child at school, the teachers are very good about either calling or emailing us. And teachers are timely in their responses to our proactive emails to them as well. All in all, HHP has been a very positive place for my child.

When you reach the Pre-K rooms, you know that your kid will be set up for success in life by creating a space that encourages learning without any pressure, but while also teaching social skills and setting boundaries. Focus is on imaginative play, freedom of choice in activities, lots of outdoor activities and each week has a clear goal. This year's art exhibit turned FUN-raiser was amazing and showcased the various styles of art and famous artist they had been studying. All the teachers and the director have been incredibly supportive in caring for and teaching my son. At his previous daycare, he had a negative experience, but after touring over five facilities, my heart knew Saint James Christian School was the right place for him. I signed up the same day I met with the director, Ms. Trish. Initially, I was uncertain about how my son would adjust given his past experiences. However, from day one, the teachers made him feel safe and cared for. By day two, he didn't want to leave! Every day after school, he asked to return, and he even dreaded the weekends because he couldn't go to school. The student-to-teacher ratio is excellent, unlike other schools that struggle with this issue. Saint James ensures there are more than enough teachers to care for the children. I also appreciate the strong sense of community here. There are many volunteer opportunities to support the kids, and we get to know other parents and the teachers very well. The school hosts fun annual events like auctions, holiday performances, special event days, water days for hot summer temperatures and various field trips (pumpkin patch, Oakland Zoo, park picnic) that my son has thoroughly enjoyed. I've also enrolled my older son in the summer camp, which he loves. He always asks to return and tells me he has a great time at Saint James. I plan to enroll both for summer camp annually. Unfortunately, we made left in November 2024 because I got a new job in the ECE field and was able to take my son with me. Long story short, it did not work out for my son, so I brought him back to Bubbly Tots in August 2025. It's almost been 3 months since he's returned and he has had so much success thanks to the wonderful staff and the amazing structure and activities they provide for the children. I cannot thank Ms. Soni and her ENTIRE team for welcoming us back with open arms! My son shows an increased interest in writing, coloring, and loves going to school. He even looks forward to doing his homework! When we were gone for almost 8 months, he would still ask for his Bubbly Tot teachers (especially Ms. Maria). They have truly made him feel loved and cared for. On the weekends he asks me if he is going to school because he misses it. That alone tells me that they have made a huge positive impact on my son. My son had been going here since November of 2024 and we have had incident after incident. He was 2 when he enrolled and full of energy. There would incidents of him coming all covered in dirt and wet pull ups by the time I picked him. I addressed it the owner would say it would be addressed and it would for a few weeks then back to the same thing. Then, he came home with bumps and cuts that would not get reported to me. Had meetings and the owner finally moved him from the care of one of her older workers. But, the last straw was when one of the workers changed my son in front of the door where the parents pick up for anyone to see and on top of that his brand new shirt was ripped that same day like an animal attacked him without a report.

I was 3 months pregnant when my husband and I found his growing grove. We put down a deposit for about $250 to "apply" for the daycare program with the goal of sending our child here at 4 months old. We were basically applying one year in advance. They told us they would give us updates on when there was an opening. We didn't get the update that there was an opening until March 2024. It's hard to believe that there was no opening (i.e., not one single infant in the program learned to walk and got moved to the toddler program during our six month waiting period). Our main problem is with the deposit. The deposit does not save you a place in line and it is not refundable. It merely gets you on a list of people to be contacted when there is an opening and then it's a free-for-all to see who submits the final paperwork first. The most reasonable approach would be to not pay anything until there is an opening and then submit the fee with all of the paperwork at that time. Unless time is not a factor to you and you have daycare somewhere else, you should not rely on there being an opening here. It's basically a lottery and you are potentially throwing away your money. We found another daycare that allowed us to send our child on the exact day we requested from the beginning. This daycare had less kids and was able to give more attention to my child.

My husband and I have a 22-month old daughter and it was our intention to send her to pre-school when she turns two years old. Knowing how difficult it is to secure a spot in a good pre-school, we started searching for one when she was only 4 months old (around November 2015). We found HGG, among others, on Yelp. Like many parents, we attended orientation sessions and opening houses. At the end, we narrowed down to 2 centers and since HGG was able to promise us a spot in writing to the Little Lamb class when she turns 2 in September 2017, we also committed ourselves by putting down a $250 deposit in January 2016. Lone and behold, around September of 2016, we found out that we were expecting our second child in May 2017. After much consideration, we also decided to enrol our unborn child to HGG to the toddler program for December 2017 and put in another $250 deposit in December 2016 to secure a spot. Between January 2017 and April 2017, I have been in close contact with the enrolment officer at HGG and in each conversation, I have always been reassured that they have a spot for both my kids at the date they have previously promised. Without any prior notice, I received a deposit refund of $250 in the mail in early May 2017. I called HGG right away to find out if there has been a mistake. It turns out that the enrolment for my baby to their infant class for December 2017 has been turned down and the only explanation given was because of a mix up in their administration (over-booking of babies to their toddler class). With only one week away from the due date of my unborn baby, they had put us under tremendous stress as both my husband and I have already committed to our respective employers our back-to-work plan under the assumption that we are able to send our baby to HGG by December 2017. In addition, when I tried to confirm the enrolment of my 22-month old daughter for September 2017 on the same call, we also found out that they have to postpone her for another year (i.e. until September 2018). By that time, I was furious. If I have not asked, no one at the center would have told us and we would be in deep trouble by the time September 2017 comes around. I apologize for the long read but I do feel strongly about my experiences. I have lost total faith in the school. We cannot help but to speculate whether there were any unfair preferences (i.e. over ethnicity, religion preferences, parents' occupation, etc) for the applicants on the waiting list. It does not matter how well-equipped the facility is, how great the programs are and how attentive the teachers may be, if the administration is run so poorly, as a mother who plans to be an involved parent for my children, I have serious doubts on how well the center is actually being run, which will directly affect the learning environment for my children. There is definitely disappointment for not being able to enrol my children to the school but my above comment arises solely from my frustration of the poor communication from the school administration. I encourage other parents who have also received their unexpected refund deposit in their mail to come forward to also share their experiences on Yelp since I am certain I am not the first and won't be the last.
