Throughout my time at the school I was subjected to severe bullying from other students. I was regularly insulted, called names, and told to kill myself. Physical assaults happened multiple times a month, and in my experience the students responsible often faced little or no consequences. One example that still stands out: a student sitting behind me stabbed me in the back with a pencil during class. I yelled because it hurt, and I ended up receiving in-school suspension for swearing while the student who stabbed me received no punishment. Situations like that happened repeatedly. When incidents were reported, I was often told my parents would be informed, but later I learned they were not. The most painful part was the feeling that many teachers and staff simply didn't care. In one case, a teacher told me I should drop out and that the most I would ever achieve was being a waiter. Comments like that from someone in a position of authority were incredibly damaging. School should be a place where students feel safe and supported. Instead, my experience was that bullying was ignored and sometimes the victims were punished. The environment had a serious negative impact on my physical, emotional, and mental health. I hope the school has improved since I attended, but based on my experience I cannot recommend it. No student should have to go through what I experienced there.

We paid lots of money and by the time we realized what this club was about, it was too late to get out of it. Our team parents offered better feedback and coaching than the actual coaches. Very sad. The owner would sit on the sidelines at tournaments and be on her phone instead of watching the teams play and being fully present. It was very disrespectful. Canned responses were given by coaches when the players asked for feedback. When you pay as much as club costs, the basic expectation is that your child will improve their skills and learn. They will be coached and be more successful on the court. I guess for our first year in club, even though our expectations were so basic - we had a bar that was too high and Rise couldn't meet it. In fact, I don't think Rise was even on the court. I would never recommend Rise Volleyball Club unless you want to waste your child's time, your time, and your money.

They can't get it together, it is a huge mess and will never play or pay money to this club again.

Initially, my wife wanted to enroll our three year old son in a Montessori preschool. In some ways,…read moreThe Goddard School is the opposite of Montessori: where Montessori stresses free, unstructured, child-led activities, Goddard stresses organized, structured, teacher-led activities. For our son, who is naturally independent and creative, the structure Goddard provides, rather than stifling his independence and creativity, helps him channel it in new, more social and collaborative ways. Sometimes this is difficult for him. But we think it's challenging him to develop skills that a Montessori-type approach might not provide. Plus, the teachers are incredibly well-qualified, the facility is new, clean, beautiful, and very well-managed, and the security and health precautions are advanced and well-applied. The Goddard School and its proprietary curriculum may not be well-suited to fit every child's needs and all familys' budgets, but we feel it's well-suited to our child's needs and well-worth the added expense over some of its competitors. Also, it's good to know that TGS is a franchise, so each individual facility will only be as good as its owner-operator. And the owner-operator at this facility, himself a father, is kind, respectful, organized, efficient, dedicated, detail-oriented, professional, and an excellent manager of both property and personnel. We highly recommend this school to anyone who feels that their child would benefit from this kind of learning environment.

Now we are settled into Idaho and at Heroes and I don't think our kids will let us ever leave (not that I want to). As an Acton Academy, Heroes encourages every child to think and behave like a hero, not a victim, while embarking on a self-growth journey. They encourage every family and child to be proactive, begin with the end in mind, to hold themselves and others accountable and to high standards. It's a place where children discover their own passions, gifts and begin to lead meaningful and purposeful lives. I have seen incredible growth in all 4 of our children over the last 2 years while attending Heroes Academy. They have developed real life skills such as how to have a meaningful conversation with an adult; how to fail and get back up again; how to speak in front of a large crowd; how to begin finding a passion or start a small business, all without our help. If you're worried that your child isn't actually learning much by completing so many assignments, doing homework each day, taking tests and getting 'good' grades in the assembly line of a traditional public education system, then Heroes Academy might be great for your family. I couldn't be happier with Heroes Academy and all that they have done for our entire family. You see, being a family at Heroes has encouraged my husband and I to continue on our own self-growth journey and to push ourselves each day, while our kids grow right alongside of us.
