This is a great hidden gem and all of the galleries are free. It's definitely really small like you could see everything under an hour. There's also a small gift shop.

There are a myriad of talented and exceptional people living in this space and creating and showing and generally making a scene in the best sense of that word. The spaces for the installations are just gorgeous. And the living spaces are so generous. It's a jewel of a foster home that nurtures artists from around the world and the folks who appreciate art in its intense and varied forms. The openings are exciting and powerful and profound. And the family is going to have a legacy like the Gettys or Guggenheims down the road--get in on the first floor of this world because you will be able to brag about having hung out here to your progeny and theirs. How lucky we are!

Dust, paint, fumes, sweat, tears, blood, and lord knows what else becomes part of the particulate air flow. And of course Detroit has gotten a lot of press for being the new frontier for artists, the tabula rasa for experimenters and corporate-job-evaders but I admit to not witnessing much of this. Partly because all this opportunistic real estate and art endeavors are a little too ethically problematic for my taste, so I avoid them altogether. But hey, when you need to go support someone for their MFA thesis project, you STFU and convert your reticence into acquiescence. When all is said and done, I liked this space. Then again I'm a sucker for virtually anything housed in a domestic realm that is not traditionally domestic. There's a bathroom and a kitchen and two large'ish rooms in which to mill about and wax poetic. I saw a set of stairs leading up but did not take them (as it did not seem to be open to the public for this particular exhibition). The images on the website also suggest that there are other houses and other yards/landscapes in which various artists display their work. Come summer it might be worth checking out. From what I can gather, there are no set hours here - mostly just open for gallery openings. But I overheard someone saying that you can call ahead and make an appointment to stop by (perhaps the curators/owners/proprietors also live on premises). If you're so inclined to hop on the Detroit-art-tourist train, this might be a worthwhile stop. If not, then just walk on by.

Prices run from low to high, so there's something for everyone. They have frequent exhibits and openings where they have a DJ, snacks and cocktails which is always a nice time. Check their website for upcoming artist openings. The staff does a nice job displaying all of the items and keeping it fresh with new items. Definitely stop in if you're looking to support a local artist and add some new items to your house or get a gift.

My parents gifted me a class for Christmas, where I made a pulled flower that turned out so cool, and I recently went back to make a pumpkin this fall. The entire team is warm, welcoming, and such excellent teachers. They make you feel fully involved in the process while guiding you step by step with a very hands-on, one-on-one approach. The small class sizes ensure there's always enough time to learn, create, and ask questions without feeling rushed. This is such a unique experience, perfect for a group of friends, a family outing, a bachelorette party, or a birthday celebration. Even if you're the only one participating, it's still fascinating for a spouse or friend to watch and learn about the glassblowing process. I love supporting small, local, women-owned businesses, and Epiphany Studios truly deserves the praise. Both of my experiences were so much fun, and I'll definitely be back. I can't recommend it highly enough; it's creative, interactive, and unforgettable!

Well, I decided I was too…read morestingy with 333 Midland when I was writing a review of Playground Detroit and decided it had to be a four cause it isn't at the high 5 star standard set by Hatch Art and 333 Midland. Much to my surprise I had also ranked 333 Midland as four stars only seven months ago. Well, 333's Annex Gallery has really killed it in the interval since then. The bananas Sean Hages show of inflatable madness, the recent Mike Kelly curated show featuring friends Jeremy Harvey and Anna Van Schaap, the artist talk I attended awhile back... the Annex has kept on bringing the heat, sometimes with shows that don't even last a month with bands playing closing parties. Resident artist Michael Ross curates most of the shows I believe and is at least always around keeping an eye on things, possibly painting in his adjacent studio with Guided by Voices playing. His sharp as tacks mural now graces the Midland side of the Annex. In the numbers game 333 has gone from 4 stars to 5.

We have gotten our artwork framed at Art Accents for over 40 years. And we are STILL getting things…read moreframed there, as Mary is wonderful, creative, accommodating, and reasonably priced. We've framed watercolors, photos, stone-signed prints, and even posters. The frame for a poster will cost more than the poster, of course, but she then makes our stuff look like top-notch art.
