Nice sound installation theme. We visited here during the Hamtramck Neighborhood Art Festival. Check it out

The Baltimore Gallery - Some skinny dude wearing overalls, a ball cap and glasses was painting this during the show

    The Baltimore Gallery

I could've sworn I wrote a review for Baltimore Gallery's previous incarnation - Untitled Bodega…read more Maybe I just wrote a draft I never finished? Well, BG is very similar to UB, maybe with more colorful murals on the outside, and is soon to shut down like it's forebearer. I can't let that happen with zero Yelp reviews to it's name, can I? There's a cool impromptu feel to Baltimore Gallery events, or maybe that's just how it seems to me. I noticed a lot of Instagram posts about the last art opening, Moven Pictures 2. Maybe that's just because I was in it, as were a slew of local artists, several of whom I follow on the 'gram. But usually this place flew under my radar. I'd drive or bike by and see people hanging out in front of the building or a DJ spinning in the parking lot and know something was going on. Sometimes it'd be too technoey for my taste and I'd just roll by. It's admirable how much color BG has added to the block, not just on the building, but with the vibrant murals on the once drab gray walls in front of the train tracks. Owner Phillip Simpson has given a lot of opportunities to artists in the Black community, too. Maybe that's why I never heard as much about this place as I should have. Anyways, he's busy with being a family man and other stuff now so BG is closing down at the end of this month, June of 2019. I'll miss this spot, even though I didn't make it here as often as I'd have liked to. Moven Pictures 2 was a lot of fun. I got to live paint in the parking lot, and meet some cool people I knew from online life but not IRL. They could've used more food besides the meh cheese platter, but being the industrious type I am I walked the two blocks to the White Castle and picked up a #4 combo to go. (I was tempted to get a Crave Case and sell em back at the Gallery for a buck apiece but I didn't feel like waiting for it.)
