Kickback Jack's finally opened in Roanoke, Virginia on September 14, 2026. This privately held sports bar chain was founded by Tom Mincher, Sr. in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1981 and the Kickback Jack's sports-themed restaurant concept was launched in 2008 with its first location in Danville, Virginia. The company is family-run and privately managed, with Tom Mincher Jr. currently serving as the president of the restaurant's parent company, Battleground Restaurant Group, Inc.
The following day after I found out of its opening, in the middle of a rainy day, I got in my pearl white Lexus and drove to this new Sports Bar & Restaurant, which was built from scratch at a prime location on Valley View Blvd next to Buffalo Wild Wings.
As a wholehearted yelper, I didn't allow the rain stop me from being one of the first to dine and review this exciting new restaurant. As I arrived at its parking lot, I photographed the its new building from inside my Lexus because it was raining and I didn't want my cellphone camera lens to get wet.
If I loved the exterior architectural design of the restaurant, I found its interior design amazing. Starting from the beautiful hardwood floors, to the natural brick walls, to the colorful banners of the different universities hanging from the black ceiling, to the 50 high-definition large-screen TVs for sports viewing, to the framed jerseys hanging above the wide window of the kitchen, to the cozy seating arrangement, with the bar in the middle with the most extensive draft beer selection that I have ever seen.
A friendly young lady greeted me with a warm welcome at the Host's station and granted my wish to be seated at a booth near the window. Soon afterwards my server, Kashay, arrived with a positive attitude and a big smile. Very knowledgeable on the menu items, she was able to answer a question about their drinks, and I ended up ordering a Mango Strawberry Dirty Soda. As appetizer I ordered the Firecracker Shrimp. And as my main course, the Grilled Chicken Dinner with barbecue sauce, bacon and cheddar cheese. It was served with seasoned green beans and mashed potatoes.
The Firecracker Shrimp appetizer was phenomenal. While I was eating it, Chase, the To-Go Specialist came by to say hi and see if I needed anything. I told him that this was my first time dining there. He mentioned about the Lunch Club Card Program and was kind enough to go get me a card. I was amazed at the enthusiasm of all staff member to serve and work as a team. Ethan Gaubert, the Managing Partner, was the next person to come by my table to welcome me. He had a wonderful personality and great leadership and human relations skills.
My main course had some juicy, plump grilled chicken breasts that were amazingly delicious, with the bacon, melted cheese, and barbecue sauce. My server came by to check on me and see if I needed anything and I asked for a glass of iced water, which she brought me right away. For dessert she suggested I have the Summer Strawberry Delight, and boy was I glad I did. It was simply exquisite, and perfect for the Grand Finale of an extraordinary dining experience. Can't wait to return. read more
