I'm a new fan! I recently had the pleasure of visiting for a few friends birthday. We indulged in Brunch. We arrived at 10am, which seems to be the golden hour. By 11am it was jammed packed. Everything was amazing from the service to the food. While here I dined on the Brisket Skillet (tender, savory and mouth watering) and Pancakes (there was a special zing to them. :) ) I also tried the Salmon and Grits. Sooo good. The salmon and grits melted like butter in your mouth. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and flavor filled. Did I mention this establishment was BYOB? I attended a cooking class at Khepera's Kitchen. I must say we had a great time making pasta, ravioli, and gnocchi. As you can see from the pictures the food turned out amazing and the Chef was great to work with. This is a great idea for a girls night, bachelorette weekend, or couples date. I seldom write reviews, but I had to take the time to rave about the AWESOME experience I had at Khepera's Kitchen. From the moment you walk in you feel at home. The music, the aroma from the kitchen and the smiling faces makes you know the food is made with love. My hubby took me along with our kiddies for my birthday brunch. We had a little fruit & herb infused water and delicious cornbread with jalapeño ((yum)) to start -- this was all complimentary. I had the shrimp and grits. These had to be the best Shrimp and grits I have ever had; even better than the ones I would often get in Charleston SC. My daughter had the French toast; which melts in your mouth. At the conclusion of our meal we had the opportunity to speak with Chief T which added another sparkle to our meal, because she loves feeding people not only with her culinary skills, but through music and philanthropy. The food here is absolutely amazing!!! Their French toast is by far the BEST French toast I've ever had. And, they make their bread fresh in the restaurant. My boyfriend ordered the brisket skillet and of course I had to try it. I loved it, and I'm not a big brisket eater. I discovered this gem one day while I was at work. I decided to take my gf for her birthday breakfast. When we arrived we were Immediately greeted by the entire staff. We were seated as soon as we came in and we were also given fruit infused water and mini jalapeño corn muffins(DELICIOUS). As we were deciding what to order the waiter let us know how the business only uses the freshest food. They buy all their fruits and vegetables locally and they also buy their meat from a local butcher. They also make their own bread in house. My GF ordered the french toast with the fresh strawberries and house-made whip cream. That French toast was the lightest and softest French toast I have ever had (best French toast of all time). I ordered the brisket breakfast skillet which had potatoes and spinach topped with a fried egg. The brisket was seasoned superbly. We also ordered cheese polenta grits which was very good also. Located in the Waverly area, street parking available. Let's talk about the food. Listen, the flavors in that damn brisket will have you wanting more. The omelette, the turkey sausage, the grits, potatoes and the brussel sprouts will leave your stomach bustinggggg with joy. A nap is definitely needed, but don't do it! I had a really nice brunch here with my family on Sunday, June 3rd 2018! The space is open and communal, and the staff is very friendly and attentive! Everything was clean and it was a bit warm what with the open kitchen and everything, but very comfortable! We had the challah french toast with fresh whipped cream and strawberries, their breakfast brisket, and the shrimp and grits, all of which were excellent. The french toast wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and the fresh strawberries and strawberry sauce/compote were phenomenal! The brisket was fall-apart smooth and the shrimp and grits were rich, buttery, and garlicy. The portions are fairly generous too! I'm definitely going back there! read more

Updated review- we have been back several times and both the food and customer service are unchanged and amazing! This past visit we had the fish and grits (stuff of my dreams) and branched out to try the an item off the specials menu- chicken sausage sandwich (arugula, aoili, Gouda, egg on a homemade ciabatta roll) made to order hash-browns. I've died and gone to heaven. This sandwich was so fantastic that I couldn't put it down. I feel like I've cheated on my fish and grits and I don't even care! Chefs- what do we need to do to make this a regular menu item?! Would say we're protesting meals here until it's added, but we all know that's a lie! read more

This place was in my Yelp bookmarks for at least a year, but once I visited, I had to return the very next weekend lol. It's SOOOOOO good! The first time I came, I had the salmon and cheese grits with a side of brussel sprouts. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've never tasted food like this before. It was amazing and everything was so savory...I usually add hot sauce to almost everything I eat, but I didn't even want to add anything to this dish because I didn't want to change a thing! It was so well seasoned, so well balanced. I was in love. I took some home with me and ate it the next day, thinking that I was probably tripping when I said everything was great, but I loved the food just as much the following day. I wasn't tripping at all, y'all. Second time (yesterday) I visited, I had an omelette that was equally scrumptious. I added a few fixings to it and got on down. I mean, seriously, there is nothing this kitchen and staff can do wrong. Both times we visited, my friend got the specialty french toast and he loved it. Funny bit about the first time - he asked for all the fixings on the FT to come on the side. The chef came out and "fussed" at him for messing up her plating lol. I appreciate that food quality AND preparation are important to every one here. The music is great. Ambiance is chill, inviting, relaxing. First visit (a Saturday around 11:30) there were only 2 other parties but second visit (a Sunday around 2) there were more people. Both times, we were able to walk right in and have a seat. My biggest criticism is Rick. He and my friend immediately teamed up against me lol. All jokes, no Rick is a great server. Extremely personable, knowledgeable about the menu, laid back but also attentive. He wasn't even our server the second time, but still made time to greet us when we walked in and make a few jokes during the course of our meal. I have been here twice in the past 8 days and I could not be more pleased!! Rick was our waiter and he was so great with us both times! We are from Dallas and have never experienced such a friendly staff and not to mention I have NEVER had a better omelet in my entire life. My highlight was the gluten free pancakes and potatoes. As someone allergic to gluten, I rarely get a good pancake but this place was out of this world! Bruch menu has many staples I.e, shrimp & grits , chicken and waffles ... but I'm biased.. don't think too many places can come close to my own so I tend to go for the not so common menu offerings- I chose loaded baked potato stuffed with pulled chicken & cheese. ... in two words I " loved it". Chicken was moist, flavorful. Seasoned just right. 2 family style seating tables, 3 two seater tables. Place holds Aprox 25 guest. It's cozy & comfortable. 2 servers, one in training. They were attentive without being intrusive, an A+ on customer service.. if you're in BMore on Saturday or Sunday be sure to stop by. Food was good the place was smaller than expected however the food was good. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because my side of bacon was placed on my friend's plate tucked under her omelette and she doesn't eat pork. Glad she isn't a person who will return their tray if the pork touches her food because when I mentioned I had not received my side of bacon, the cook's response was it's the same bacon I can take the bacon off of her plate.. Not very apologetic that you put pork on her plate but also told me to just did on her plate and take the food for my own... I met a group a friends at Kephora's Kitchen because a friend of ours had told us that she had dined here and the food was pretty good. It's a very small mom and pop restaurant. On the table you can find fruit infused bottled water on the table. Once you place your order, a small tin can of complimentary jalepeno muffins are given to munch on, these were good. We all ordered a variety of dishes so we could get the chance to taste everything. I ordered the special House French Toast which was made with Oat bread. The French toast changes weekly. It was so good that it would have been fine without syrup. I ate some with syrup and without, both ways were good. I also ordered the Bacon burger. I was not too thrilled with this burger. I tasted the falafel burger which tasted better than the bacon burger to me which was a surprise. The burger came with sweet potato fries and those were delicious. Another one of my favorites was the Breakfast Brisket Skillet, man oh man was that heavenly. I wished that I had gotten that instead. The chicken for the chicken and waffles was good, I didn't try a big enough piece of the waffle to give my critique of it. The shrimp and grits were just ok to me. The omelet was good and the rosemary potatoes were seasoned well. They had a ginger drink that was refreshing. It tasted like the Carribean drink called sorrel. The drink had pomegranate, ginger, mint and cranberry juice. Tip: This is a BYOB restaurant so if you want your brunch mimosas on deck, bring your drank of choice. read more

We stopped in for breakfast on a weekend morning and had a mixed experience with the food and service, but wanted to give feedback about this new business. We were greeted immediately upon coming in, and picked a table near the window - the restaurant was about half full. Our server brought over menus and a carafe of pineapple-mint infused water, which was quite refreshing but could've been a little more strongly flavored (maybe even just muddling the mint a little). D ordered a pancake combo, with bacon and scrambled-well eggs, and a side of potatoes. I ordered an omelet, which came with potatoes. We watched while a few other tables got their food, and pondered whether we should've just gone to Pete's as we'd originally planned - this was taking a while and the restaurant didn't seem that busy! Finally our food arrived, and was dropped off by a server who just put our plates down and left quickly, before we could even ask for salt, pepper, hot sauce, etc. that we wanted for our eggs - and then we couldn't get anyone's attention because they seemed to be having a meeting in the open kitchen, and we didn't want to make a big fuss - we figured someone would come back in a few minutes to refill our water or check on the food. Unfortunately, that was a false assumption, and we weren't visited again until it was to take the plates away and bring a check. D said the pancakes were okay, but though the eggs were a bit underdone and had too much "stuff" in them - lots of herbs added but no flavor. My omelet was very wet - lots of oil and water from the spinach that would've been better to not include when it was plated, as it was soggy, cooled it down, and muddied the flavor. The eggs just didn't taste great - and for a nice small local place like this, we were hoping for fresher eggs. Having some hot sauce or vinegary addition would've helped with this one-note flavor. The potatoes were cooked nicely, but over salted. We weren't thrilled with the service over all, and didn't have anything good enough to crave coming back, but if we did we'd bring our own pepper. read more

Went for brunch and was thoroughly impressed. But the best part of my meal BY FAR was the desserts I had wrapped to go. I got a cookie that I think was called "almost healthy cookie" that was an oatmeal based cookie with dried figs, blueberries, cherries and other dried fruits along with both flax and chia seeds. Was perfectly chewy and flavorful. I also got a homemade oatmeal cream pie, which was to DIE for! But the absolute best one was the homemade Hostess chocolate cupcake. My Dad and went to this restaurant last Sunday for the third time since they opened. I, personally wasn't interested in going back (after the second time, about six months ago) because I didn't care for the last meal of an omelette and fried potatoes; the potatoes had sage in them and the quality of service. Long story short ... the place is a too small over-priced hole in the wall w/decent food. It took a while for us to get waited on. Once we finally ordered and received our food, we were monitored while we ate because they want you to eat and leave immediately. My Dad and I had finished our food and were having a conversation, while he was drinking his glass of water. In the midst of that, our waitress brought the tab and said we could pay when we were ready. Not even five minutes passed and she was back asking us to pay. Immediately thereafter, a very rude waitress came to the table and said we had to leave because they had other people waiting. If it were not for my being there w/my Dad, there would've been an entirely different conversation had. I didn't want him to see me get upset because it would've upset him. We were both insulted. I'd never experienced that type of service before, regardless of how small the restaurant was. I won't be returning, they need improve their level of customer service. read more

The Vegan. Today my girlfriends and I decided to try Khepera's Kitchen.I was a bit apprehensive as I am a Vegan and my friends are absolutely not Vegan. Thankfully the chef stepped out to greet the guest and paused at our table. I shared my plant-based lifestyle noting the menu contained options I could not easily enjoy. I asked her if she would create something Vegan and my oh absolute my, she made the best vegan dish I've had in a very long time--- and I know Vegan food. I invited her to permanently place the item on the menu as it was so absolutely delicious.
