If you're looking for a big space, lots of room, and an outlandish buffet bar... don't come here…read more :-) Rice'n Wings is definitely more of a 'Hole in the Wall' type location, but the food is good. Limited buffet options, but I feel like just enough to have a pretty decent lunch (which is when I went by there). Their chicken teriyaki on a stick was good. Not to dried out or "chewy", nice flavor, a little juicy. Near perfect for a buffet item. Their house made fried rice was good, what I would have expected, and I kept wanting more. I did try the HAM fried rice, but wasn't impressed, it tasted to American to be Chinese I guess. The wings were really good, I can definitely see why they made the store title. Great seasoning, just small enough to not overwhelm you, but just big enough to be filling with just a few. I really liked them, and kept going back for more. The rest was more typical, I guess, but still good. Not to many items that I would refuse to go back and have again, though I may not pile them on the plate. Overall I enjoyed it, and would revist for another good lunch, especially for the wings. If you happen to work at Shaw Air Base, then bonus points because it's less than 5 mins from the 2 gates, so quick tasty lunch trip!

I literally come here for the beef and vegetable soup. It tastes exactly how my grandma used to…read moremake it so I get a big bowl of rice and add the soup. I don't like Chinese food, just because it's their for folks who like Americanized Chinese food, but sometimes I'll get the wontons. I definitely like that they have plenty of strawberries! Some of them are hit or miss, but at least they have fresh fruit. People really seem to enjoy the donuts too.

If this doesn't scream hole in the wall... you've got much lower standards than me. :-P…read more Anne's Diner is small, and hidden away from the public. I almost missed it going for lunch thanks to the small sign out front. From the outside it's an old white building, small little street sign to let you know you found it, and a small lit "Open" sign in the right front window. No real parking aside from some limited space directly in front of the building, or in the grass behind it. Inside doesn't change much. Maybe 6 tables with enough room for 4 at each. You order directly from the counter, using the wall mounted menu that's hand written with the options for the day. What I wanted, was the Fried Pork Chop or Chicken, what I somehow ordered was the Fried Fish. No, to be clear, they didn't mess up my order. I literally said Fried Fish, then while sitting at the table waiting on my food I thought "DOH!". To accompany the fish, I also requested fried okra, green beans, and Mash Potatoes. I'll start with what I consider negative: The Fried Okra, appeared just pan fried at best. I was expecting a breaded okra that was fried, then served. That crunchy outside, with the soft tasty center... that was my expectation. But what I received was more, boiled and "mushy". This isn't a total negative as much as it is an "unknown". I should have asked what fish was being fried. I had hoped/assumed it would be catfish, and while it COULD have been, I'm not actually sure. It was definitely a white fish, but I almost think it was COD or Bass. Not sure. Now, the positive: Back to the subject of the fish. It was fried very well. Flaky, well breaded and seasoned, fried to a beautiful golden brown. Soft and delicious. While I didn't get the okra I was expecting, it was still good. Well seasoned and prepared, tasted good, and I actually enjoyed it. Though I would have preferred the actual fried okra more. The beans were simple, but not over salted or anything. So good on those too. Lastly, the mashed potatoes were definitely made in house, a bit chunky, but still good. To be fair, they weren't overly seasoned, but a dash of salt and pepper, and it was perfection. Price isn't horrible considering how much food you're loaded with, a piece of corn bread, a small but tasty desert snack, and my never ending glass of sweat tea. Total came to just over $8. Ms. Anne, the owner, was the sweetest woman on earth and made me feel extremely welcomed. Not really how you feel at most quick sit and eat establishments. For a small hole in the wall, the food was really quite good. No flair, no fancy table or prepared meat. Just basic food on a plate ready for you to eat. Be warned, and it may change, when I went there was no AC kicking... just some ceiling fans. So it may be a better option for to-go depending on the heat outside (or the crowd inside). I do plan to return and try more of their "meat" options, such as the fried chicken... BBQ Ribs... or fried pork chops. And that is only some of the many options that change almost daily! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a southern bite that truly feels "down home"!
