It has to be said.
No, I am not reviewing KFC as a restaurant. I am not reviewing a specific branch or outlet.
My review of KFC is listed under local flavor solely because the Philippine version of KFC is, to put it nicely, a maverick all to its own.
If you're reading this, you're probably a denizen of the net. You've probably gone and seen the unique offerings of the other versions of this restaurant worldwide. But in my opinion, none comes close to ours, of only because of two things.
The Double-Down Dog: a Purefoods Chicken Hotdog, wrapped in a chicken breast slathered in what can best be described as a yellow, mayo(?) sauce. This is the latest one, and had the internet going nuts. This was Japanese-level innovation, according to them. But nope. All Filipino baby.
But if there's anything that really says R&D, look no further than the Cheesetop Burger. This is basically a crispy chicken sandwich, with the unique feature of having a slice of American on top. Of the bun. This one sandwich ran, and for its lifespan, was so unique, everyone was struck dumb. This wasn't so much a sandwich as an experiment, both culinary and social.
So yes, KFC may be a global brand, with many unique food items. But KFC Philippines is a very unique snowflake. read more
