A few weeks ago, I discovered that a branch has finally opened in Makati. At the streetside section of Glorietta 2, directly facing Landmark, it's hard to miss the place. What with a conspicuously designed name printed on its glass window and right above the entrance. Finding a seat is also not a problem as the dining area is huge and there are plenty of tables and chairs. I liked Wingstop even before I tasted their food. The reason: Their food choices are few. You'll not be overwhelmed by different options or types of food. Their menu revolves around chicken wings. Since their Makati branch is fairly new, I imagined that customers would take a long time to decide what to order. But it didn't take long for the people ahead of me to finish their transactions at the counter. It could be that everyone had already tried Wingstop and knew what to eat or it could be that 7:00pm is not a good time to eat wings (are you kidding me?). Since I was on my way home, I decided to have my orders in a takeaway bag. I simply wanted to sample their wings so I got a 7-piece order of wings with two flavors - Garlic Parmesan and Louisiana Rub. Both taste great but I liked the Louisiana Rub better because of its sweet and mild spicy flavor.

I consider Buffalo wings to be one of my favorite foods, so when someone declares this place to be one of the best wings in town, I had to find out for myself. Frankie's set-up is like the typical wings diner: homey and pleasantly cluttered. I had the garlic parmesan as recommended by the waiter, and the Frankie's Classic Buffalo. As it was the one flavor that took the restaurant's name as its title, the Frankie's classic was definitely the better order of the two. Everything I've been hearing about the place was right; this might be the best Buffalo wings place in the city! The Frankie's classic is a masterpiece, I don't know how many kinds of Buffalo wings I've tried in my life, but this time I think I've found the perfect original no frills wings.

Going further, some places would inevitably prepare the dish better than most. To me, this is Frankie's New York Buffalo Wings. I usually head to Frankie's after a night run. This could get as late as midnight. The place is open until 2 am, and by this time the horrible parking situation at the City Golf Compound would already be more manageable. (Of course, provided it's a not a weekend.) I always get the Classic Buffalo (spicy) with blue cheese dip, and ask for more blue cheese dips. (They charge extra). I like the chicken because of the way the skin has been cooked to a crisp, all the while keeping the meat rather tender; I think it's breaded. The sauce is spicy yet with just the right bite, meaning there is a dimension to the flavor and not just plain crazy-fiery. Like, I can still taste the butter and the vinegar all coming nicely together with the one-two punch of the hot sauce. Oh-yeah! The best part is you don't even have to worry about getting your hands dirty because they give away disposable gloves. To be honest, I don't really use it since I am used to working with utensils in dissecting my chicken, but I just think it's rather thoughtful of them. As my personal motto goes: it's the useless stuff that builds character.

I read that the owners (who…read moreare sisters) were inspired by their travels abroad (and wing addiction!) to put up their own restaurant. The place is the cozy, laid-back with walls covered in beach photos & actual surfboards. The only thing missing is the chill-out or beach house tunes to go with your meal. For first timers, I suggest you order their half pound wings (4-5 pieces) so that you can try more than one flavor. The prices will vary to the flavors you choose. Of couse, you should try their Sunrise Original (Php175, 3.82USD for half pound). If you like it super spicy, go try their Ultimate Crazy Hot (Php245, 5.35USD for half pound). The most popular flavor is the Jack Daniels (Php245, 5.35USD for half pound)! Just imagine crispy wings with the sweetness of Jack Daniel's whiskey. Yum! :D I recommend the Black Peppered (Php175, 3.82USD for half pound) and the Smokin' BBQ (Php165, 3.60USD for half pound). Oh, they also have a wide selection of beers! Head on over with your friends for a chill hang out :)

I like the mild New York Buffalo wings because it's got the right amount of heat and is great when tipped in sour cream. The Jack Daniel's and Hot n' Sticky.Maple are also great options of you're looking for something a little sweet. You can wash those wings down with a selection of different beers, or try their peach house blend iced tea. They've also got some seriously thick milkshakes for the days when you decide to throw your diet out the window. Found on the ground floor of a small commercial center called Madison Place, parking can be difficult so either come early to grab a slot, prepare to wait or order to take your wings home. I like the beach-y vibe of the place, they've got surfing paraphernalia all over the walls and their TVs are almost always showing surfers and gorgeous beaches around the world.

We were talking about fried chicken one day, and this was a common favorite among those I asked. I was ready to trek over to Binondo but I saw this place tucked away at Robinsons Magnolia! I had to give it a try. I ended up ordering a 1/2 order of the fried chicken (₱160) and a large order of the fried rice (₱100). Price is definitely a strong suit for Express Sincerity! It was an easy two meals for me. The service was very courteous and willing to help me with any questions I had about the menu. The fried chicken is amazing!! I'm not sure why, really. But it was super moist inside and satisfyingly crunchy and savory outside. It was also seasoned very well. It came with two packets of ketchup but I didn't need them. The fried rice was ok. Tasted very homey, with strong hints of garlic (a nod to sinangag) and Chinese longganisa (a nod to Tsinoy cooking). Nothing amazing but definitely worth 100 pesos. I just wish they had rice topping type meals. This is a food court after all, and their current menu is built for sharing. Try them out!

If you're tired of the same-old 1-piece or 2-piece chicken, why not get yourself a 4-piece meal?…read more I am a big fan of Chicken Chicken's food. It's this small karinderia-looking place along Estrada Street, a block away from Benilde Hotel. If you see the Santisima Trinidad Church, you've gone too far. This small place hasn't changed a bit since I was in college--it still has the monoblock chairs, the big wide open window which will make you feel like someone would serenade you while you're eating (that's true though during Christmas), and of course, their food. Chicken Chicken doesn't give you a lot of options on their menu but they sure make up for it for with the quality and quantity of each serving. Believe it or not, they serve 4 pieces of chicken for every order. That'll already last you until dinner! Aside from the chicken, another bestseller is their Liempo. Don't forget to dip it in their signature sauce! For all meals, you can choose to have plain rice or order the garlic rice which I love. Last tip: the owner manages the restaurant herself. She may get cranky at times so bring a lot of patience. I promise you, the food will totally make up for it!

Sounds like the recipe for an adventure, yeah? Exactly what I thought, so I hitched up my pants and ventured so far from the safety of DLSU's Taft Avenue, I almost cried. The restaurant itself blends so well with its residential surroundings that I kept passing it without realizing it was there. After a few instances of taking out my phone, pretending I got a text while I inconspicuously turn around, I found Chicken Chicken and its owner who is always a wee bit short-tempered. It's not her fault, there are people constantly streaming into the place. It's her against about a thousand people every day -- even Ghandi would be like SHUT UP I KNOW YOUR ORDER'S COMING WAIT. The name 'Chicken Chicken' should be an indication that their flagship meal consists of two large as heck pieces of chicken and their signature dipping sauce. Be prepared to shell out extra for two (or seven) more cups of rice if you're gonna enjoy this fully, but since the meal itself is less than a hundred pesos, it shouldn't be a problem.

The innovative stall of Bad Bird sticked to the modernity of the look and upscale food options. I go for the plate of corn and coleslaw for P390 and with an additional sweet potato waffles for P95. The umami goodness justified the steep price points. The chicken is seasoned thoroughly and the skin is immensly crispy. You can choose any spice level from safe, spicy, and chemical. I take calculated risks and the safe level is enough for me. As a devotee of anything fried chicken, Bad Bird lives up to the hype.
