There are several play areas for the kiddos to run around on, as well as a large field if you want to bring a ball to kick or throw around. Also, if you would like to take a walk, there is a really nice bike/walking path that extends all the way around the park. We brought our son's bike with us, and we walked and he rode around the park a few times. A cool thing about this park that you won't find many other places in the area is a duck pond. It is a small pond, but it is really nice. There are ducks, and you can feed them if your bring your own bread or the like.. there is a really cool "dock" (I'm drawing a blank on what else to call it) that extends out into the pond. I think that my family and I will be spending a lot of time at this park this year. There are indoor restrooms on the property, and there are also canopies all over the place to provide shade during the hotter months. Next time we go, we are gonna pack a lunch, eat at one of the many shaded picnic tables, and make an afternoon out of hanging out at the park!!

The puppy aka Chico also enjoys going for a walk here. Paul Harvey Park is a smaller sized park nestled in a residential area. A lot of westside parks are in residential areas which is great! There's a walking trail with lots of green grass and trees around. There's also park benches and a pool nearby. I'm not sure if it's still open or not. I don't think I've really seen people using it in all of the years I've come by. This park always looks clean and well maintained. We've seen the maintenance guys cutting the grass and watering it pretty often. There's also a shelter that's used for gatherings. The kiddos also have a small jungle gym there. Overall a nice place and it's also Chico approved!

I totally forgot about the 4th of July parade that goes down Sunland and turns on Mesa!!!! I was stuck! I drove around for an hour trying to find a detour that would bring me up by Whole Foods. In the process, I found a neighborhood swimming pool that was listed on Yelp (Bel Mar Neighborhood Pool), and three parks that were not yet listed on Yelp: Paul Harvey Park, H. T. Ponsford Park and James Schwitters Family Park, all within minutes of each other. Who ever says we do not have grass and trees in El Paso needs to come check out the City of El Paso's great recreational parks and areas. So, yes, I finally did make it to La Madeleine's- I had to take I -10 W and get off at Resslear to get around the parade and found myself by a giant American flag hanging from a crane!!!! Awesome- Happy Birthday America!

This is a really charming neighborhood park that you'd never know existed. It has a very…read morenatural-feeling layout that is quite different from your modern park which is usually constructed on a block or a square/rectangular lot. Even though it's not very large, it has at least five distinctly different areas within it, that will each feel like home depending on who you are and why you came to the park. You could come here to walk, to sit, to read, to play, to have a date. It also has more shade than most parks of its size, as well as multiple benches and tables. Downside: no restrooms or portables, and no public restrooms or businesses within a short distance. Charm and design - that's why you should visit Madeline Park.

Even in February we spotted blooms. The museum houses rotating exhibits on the lower level and permanent exhibits upstairs. The student at the desk offered us a warm greeting and clear directions. Downstairs we learned about the gardens and native plants; and appreciated an exhibit about the stories of local immigrants and advocacy groups. Upstairs we learned some of the history of the area, appreciated various artifacts, and admired the collection of taxidermy birds. This is a university museum that does what it says it will, and with a free admission no one should complain. Parking was easy to spot and the attendant at the entrance gave us a three hour pass.

This is a huge deal for me, because it is hot as hell (literally) for several months out of the year. Being so hot, the kids can't even play on the playground during several months of out the year without the risk of being burnt by the hot plastic and metal. So having a covered park really pays off during this time. There is a basketball court as well. It is a half-court with only one goal, but it would suffice for a friendly game of pick-up. There are 2 fairly large open spaces here at the park as well. and there is GRASS!! haha. Great for picnics, or flying a kit (if the wind will cooperate.) Overall, this is a really nice public park. You could easily make a nice morning or afternoon with the family here.

Volunteers shared with us that they intentionally overwinter plants with "debris" to protect insects and eggs during the colder months. Even in early February, several plants were blooming. The Good: *Free to visit and open daily from dawn to dusk. *Free parking (look for the sign on the wall ifo the "Prayer Wheel") *Area is well talked care of, and they do have a fairly large selection of plants given the small space. *Older lady who was maintaining the garden was very nice and welcoming. The Meh: *Very small garden and can be seen in less than 30 minutes *If the museum and school aren't open (like during the holidays), there are no restrooms available. The Ugly: *We arrived just a few days after a terrible freeze hit the country, so lots of the plants that should've been blooming weren't. TLDR: Nice garden to visit if you happen to be on the campus or visiting the Centennial Museum, but otherwise, it's not really worth seeking out and making a special trip for.
