Memorial Park - Memorial plaque & the Flagpole

I think Memorial Park is one of the nicest parks in El Paso. It's always been one of my favorites…read more I'm surprised I haven't written a review about it! It has a lot of lush green grass and trees, especially during the warmer months. Since El Paso is located in the desert, we don't have too much of that. It's kind of far from my house so I don't come to it that often. If I lived closer, I would definitely walk around and relax. There's also a swimming pool and library. I've never been to either one. Before Covid, I brought my son to a festival at Memorial Park. There was a lot of vendors and children's activities. My son enjoyed it. Memorial Park is also close to the rose garden (another favorite of mine!). This is a nice park to have a gathering with friends and family. One of my friends had a memorial for her son here. She brought food and drinks, along with a singer and butterflies to release. She held the memorial one year after her son passed away. It was a beautiful tribute for him. Memorial Park is also a nice place to take photos since it's so green pretty much all year long. People/photographers come here to take wedding, quinceanera and graduation photos. Check out Memorial Park if you haven't already.

I guess I'm partial to it since it's not too far from my residence, and I have been frequenting this park in recent months ever since I relocated to Northeast El Paso. Even comparing to the Chamizal National Memorial Park, I like this one better--it's kind of hard to put into words, but it gives me more soothing and calming feelings as I walk through it. It also gives ample shades during hot summer days since there are many large trees. This park is fairly large and includes Aquatic Center, El Paso Public Library, & El Paso Municipal Rose Garden in the vicinity. Families enjoy using the playground with their children. If you walk around the perimeter of the park and/or through the hills, it provides you with a good walk routes. I see groups of people enjoying yoga or tai chi, others cycling through the park. I often see couples/families getting their wedding/engagement/quinceañera photos done here since it's such a beautiful setting. There are ample picnic benches throughout the park. There aren't too many shelters, but I see folks bringing their own shade tents and chairs. If you need a place to relax and enjoy nature, this is the place to be in El Paso. Highly recommended!!

The puppy aka Chico also enjoys going for a walk here. Paul Harvey Park is a smaller sized park nestled in a residential area. A lot of westside parks are in residential areas which is great! There's a walking trail with lots of green grass and trees around. There's also park benches and a pool nearby. I'm not sure if it's still open or not. I don't think I've really seen people using it in all of the years I've come by. This park always looks clean and well maintained. We've seen the maintenance guys cutting the grass and watering it pretty often. There's also a shelter that's used for gatherings. The kiddos also have a small jungle gym there. Overall a nice place and it's also Chico approved!

I totally forgot about the 4th of July parade that goes down Sunland and turns on Mesa!!!! I was stuck! I drove around for an hour trying to find a detour that would bring me up by Whole Foods. In the process, I found a neighborhood swimming pool that was listed on Yelp (Bel Mar Neighborhood Pool), and three parks that were not yet listed on Yelp: Paul Harvey Park, H. T. Ponsford Park and James Schwitters Family Park, all within minutes of each other. Who ever says we do not have grass and trees in El Paso needs to come check out the City of El Paso's great recreational parks and areas. So, yes, I finally did make it to La Madeleine's- I had to take I -10 W and get off at Resslear to get around the parade and found myself by a giant American flag hanging from a crane!!!! Awesome- Happy Birthday America!

There are several play areas for the kiddos to run around on, as well as a large field if you want to bring a ball to kick or throw around. Also, if you would like to take a walk, there is a really nice bike/walking path that extends all the way around the park. We brought our son's bike with us, and we walked and he rode around the park a few times. A cool thing about this park that you won't find many other places in the area is a duck pond. It is a small pond, but it is really nice. There are ducks, and you can feed them if your bring your own bread or the like.. there is a really cool "dock" (I'm drawing a blank on what else to call it) that extends out into the pond. I think that my family and I will be spending a lot of time at this park this year. There are indoor restrooms on the property, and there are also canopies all over the place to provide shade during the hotter months. Next time we go, we are gonna pack a lunch, eat at one of the many shaded picnic tables, and make an afternoon out of hanging out at the park!!

It's one of the most green parks I've seen actually. Lol. They have walk paths for joggers, walkers, and to walk your furry friend. :) Which btw, they've marked certain areas of the pavement showing mile marks. Awesome! The park consists of spacious grassy areas and trash bins across the place. It's well maintained and they provide doggy bags too. People park either on the curb or near the library, which is located on the end of the park. The only down side is that it's barely lit at night and the only restroom is one Porta potty. The most lit part of the park is the children's playground, which is great but I wish there was more lighting. Besides the wonderful green pastures and playground, there's a volleyball and basketball court. They have a few benches and many trees, so there is shade. But I prefer to bring a mat and enjoy the scenery. :) there's always people of all ages here and there's always a soccer or football game.

Every once in awhile I took my son to run around and buy an ice cream from one of the many ice cream trucks that park in the area. I've even had picnics with friends and family here. This is a pretty nice park to host a family reunion or party. It isn't as nice as Memorial Park or others but it's alright. There's lots of grass, baseball fields and a nearby recreation center (named after Gary Del Palacio, an El Paso businessman and community activist who was murdered in 2005). There's also walking trails and tennis courts here. Whenever we're in monsoon season (during the summer months usually), this park floods a lot. I've seen and heard a lot of tadpoles here. A huge pond forms all over the park. As gross as it may sound, I think people actually get into the pond/water. I would advise against it. There might be dog poop, who knows what else can be in the water? Overall, a pretty good park. Check it out at least once or twice. Pack a picnic lunch, chairs, blanket and visit. Don't bring beer or wine! Sorry!
