I was supposed to be going on a cruise with my partner, I flew out from California, and sadly, she passed away suddenly right after I got here. I live in California, she lived here, and we kept this crazy cross country relationship going for 20 years. We had a. Helluva run..... I called, and I spoke to Bernie. He was the primary person I worked with. I came in for my initial visit, he sat down with me to explain the process He was patient, caring, and he listened to what I had to say, We even talked about a few things that helped lighten up the conversation as well. He knew just what I needed to hear. We made arrangements for them to pick up the body, for the cremation, and for me to pick up her ashes for a later scattering in the Atlantic Ocean. I mentioned it to him that I would like to see her one more time, and we made arrangements to do it the next day. I had earlier stopped by her apartment, there was a suitcase there, and for some reason, I decided to put it in the car. I'm glad I did, because he asked if I had access to clothes. We picked out a nice outfit for her, and also, she used to golf herself, she loved watching professional golf, and her PGA tour baseball cap just happened to be in the suitcase. So we got that for her as well. I came back the next day to see her, and Bernie advised me that her face did have some bruising because it appeared that she had rolled out of bed right before she passed away. I told him, that's OK, I still wanted to see her one last time. It wasn't as bad as I was afraid it might be, but I'm still glad that he let me know ahead of time. They did the cremation, and I picked her ashes up a couple of days later. Everybody here was nothing but 100% gracious, friendly, and helpful, they understood what I was dealing with. They answered any questions I might have, they listened to my stories, and they really helped me start my journey in saying goodbye. Thank you so very, very, much......

At the time, I called around to at least 4-6 different places in the Albany area to understand the cremation options available, at a very stressful time obviously. Roy was BY FAR the most compassionate, patient, responsive, and clear about what to expect. Seriously, you just don't want to deal with the impersonal or callous attitudes that came across in my first phone call with some of the other places that offer cremation services. There wasn't even the smallest hint of anything other than the ideal level of genuine helpfulness from Roy. On top of that the prices were extremely fair, and the environment and decor in the Simple Choices funeral home is very comforting. Looking back, it also feels good to have supported a business & team that is committed to doing the right thing for people at their worst times. They live out ALL the values stated on their website. Our daughter unexpectedly passed away and upon my first contact with the funeral director Sept it was like no other calls mattered. Sept from the first call made us feel comfortable ( a warm hug kind of comfort). Once we decided to go with Ivy Cremations, it was constant communication, whether it was calls or via text. We did not communicate via emails which was greatly appreciated and was not an option for us. That was a big plus as communication was consistent. We met Alex tonset up the final arrangements and that interation was pleasant and due to prvios patrons we were not able to bring food, but light refreshments and finger foods were allowed. The day of, which was Monday. From the limo driver Larry, who was early and waited for everyone, and opened each individual door. GREAT JOB LARRY: GOING AND RETURN. The place was clean, set up well. Nicole welcomed us and assisted where needed. Everything on Monday was perfect, accomodating and thoughtful. My mom passed away in 2005, my dad in 2008. I find that anything I put at their graves in…read morerememberance of them, quickly becomes broken, or gone! Every other gravesite around that area remains intact. Regardless off how much stuff is there! I have spoken to the owner who said kids walk through from the nearby golf course and are sometimes destructive. There is no fence to devide the 2 properties. This is not an answer to me, and why can't a fence be put up?! Very frustrating for me and other members of my family! When did people start disrespecting those who have passed on! What happened to morals? Now I bring nothing! So unfair!!!
