Lived in 1905 devonwood common in chesapeake for 3+years keyrenters is the worst rental company i ever rented from! They inflated charges to put against our deposit return and also lied about having work done just to take more money from our deposit. They dont fix anything washer machine broke i replaced it and left it in the unit. I should have taken it with me! The hvac system had issues i paid over $600+ electric bill for 3 months no one ever tried to help when I reached out to them to tell them about the bills. Also when you leave they will send a list of approved companies and tell you dont clean the house that they will clean the house carpets and dryer vent. The company ragdollz cleaning is owned by a lady name martha and her son albert. They will tell you one price $325. And then come into a empty house and complain about cleaning and add extra charges and move extra slow! Before you know it she will say it was a 500+ cleaning and charge it to keyrenters who will take that from your security deposit! Dont waist your time or money with them! Keyrenters also They charge $200 for dryer vent cleaning $200 for carpet cleaning even after i just paid $200 for the carpet cleaning but because it wasnt from a company on their list specifically they tried to play in my face saying it needed to be redone. Sent an invoice for carpets a month later from the same morning i called and work wasn't even done! But supposedly it needed to be done and taken out my deposit! They charged me 510 for gutter cleaning. Thats a homeowner responsibility! The lease will have a section where it states anything not listed here will be a tenant responsibility thats how they get around charging for stuff. Just beware they want money and thats it! And the 64$ benefits package is a joke they send one filter a month and the only way you get pest control is if you call and request but your being charged every month regardless. If you want to see less than half of your security deposit or none of it at all rent with them! Left the house soo good i paid $900 after getting the professional clean walls patched and carpets cleaned and we even helped with painting. Just to have $900+ taken from me. read more

Everything seemed okay at first, we used this company to manage our property for about a year, but it seems that when we were selling our home and had someone else in mind to sell it for us Rodney took it personal. Very short with emails with as little information as he could give us, and then REFUSED to give us the keys to OUR property after the tenants gone. Totally unprofessional. I guess when things don't go their way they don't know how to act accordingly. I see you responded, and your response makes no sense. WE requested to terminate management 60 days ahead of time, waiting to do any action until after the tenants moved out (photos, showings etc.) The problem wasn't when the tenants were even living there, they were already gone and we requested the keys when they already moved out. There shouldn't have been a back and forth about us having the keys to our own home. read more

Rodney at Keyrenter is a great landlord and PM. He's a no BS guy and gets the job done. He takes care of his tenants and gets things fixed fast. He's very responsive to me and all my calls, always same day returns. You can't ask for anything else from a property manager. TENANTS BEWARE This is a property management company not deserving of a single star. We rented a four bedroom single family in a lakeside community in Chesapeake and paid over 2300 dollars including the resident benefit fee of 35 dollars that keyrenters charge which provides no more than 2 filters; which if you walked into a store is not more than 10 dollars. Never got a clear answer on what that benefits package provides. The only person it benefits is Rodney. We had a lease that ended in July of 2023. However, we had snakes get into the house, twice. The snakes were able to get in through the attic access door in the front room over the garage. It was on the headboard. But for my dog's vigilance, I very well could have been bitten. We found a snake removal person to remove it. Since this had happened more than once, we called a critter control person who identified several access points through which the snake could have gotten in. There were several holes on the garage floor and through the exterior siding. Rodney and his team ridiculed me telling me snakes are common in Chesapeake and that I should just suck it up. He sent out a pest control company who initially refused to come out saying they do not handle snakes. Not sure how he convinced them. The guy came out, showed us several ingress points and left. That was the sum total of Rodney's efforts to address the issue. Since we persisted in asking that he address it, he started bullying us, telling us we could not contact the home owner etc and he sent us a request to vacate form and asked that we vacate. Continued harassing us. Having exhausted all options to get them to give us a place safe to inhabit, we had no choice but to vacate. From October when we found the snake in the room I used as my bedroom to December of 2022, the issue was never addressed. Refused all maintenance requests since October. Laughed at us saying he has snakes under his grill and so what? Kiantae agreed with us that structural ingress issues are a owner's responsibility and then quickly changed her tune because of Rodney refusing to do anything. I am also sure that this company has no integrity and will not disclose to the next tenant that snakes were able to get into the house through the attic access door. Snakes are wildlife. They are not pests. They are managed by wholly specialized wildlife removal companies not pest control. We had to tape up all the gaps in the access doors, throw the bed on which our dog killed the snake and were not able to use part of the house. We slept in tents with all lights on because we could hear sounds in the walls. We have pictures, all emails exchanged and proof of payments made to remove snake etc. Today is day 45 and we are yet to receive our security deposit back. We have been getting snap shots of check made out to the wrong person, even when we gave them the right information and have proof of it. TENANTS BEWARE. read more

I DO NOT like to leave reviews. It takes to long and not worth it. But this company is the worst I have ever had to deal with. Not even close. They will not pick up your call. And if you happen to get in contact with them good luck on getting some resolved. This will be the last time doing business with this company. My apartment has been at a minimum 90 degrees. I put in several maintenance requests, at best someone came to look at it. Nothing got done. I call to get an update on the repair, to my surprise no answer. So I called back and someone picked up. Did not provide a name or anything just RUDE attitude. Than told me to email if I wanted an update. I have been the worst experience. DO NOT RENT HERE! It's a trap! read more

Honestly the worst service I have ever received from a realty company. Called 5 days in a row, left multiple messages, stopped by the office more than once to hear nothing back until just now for a 30 second phone call from Rodney who sounded quite rude if you ask me. I have never had to wait more than 48 hours to hear anything back from a realty company especially once an application is filled out and sent. After all that I will never attempt to rent from them again, a giant waste of my time and money. read more

I moved in 6/20 during Covid. When I walked in to the apartment sight unseen, there was damage to inside walls, holes in the walls, damage on the kitchen floor, all bathroom hooks, wall holders were half hanging off wall, and half of the wall in the outdoor storage was missing. I took pictures. When I went to put my $100 dollars worth of groceries away; didn't realize the refrigerator wasn't working. Tried to cook dinner that night; only two burners worked. I was also not told about parking. A tow truck comes around every 45 minutes to tow unauthorized vehicles away. Wasn't told about getting a vehicle sticker. Didn't get information about receiving mail or a mail key. I had to hear this information from a neighbor. There was always something wrong with the appliances. Always paid my rent on time except one time and this was during Covid. I was only one time late, during Covid and the landlord charged me a huge late fee. I lived here two LONG years with something always not working correctly. When I moved out, I was accused of damaging the wall in the outside storage room and leaving an item behind. I have pictures with dates proving the damage was there before I moved in. Also, I removed all my items when I moved out. Now I'm being charged an enormous charge. All this company cares about is being unethical and sucking you dry of money. Do not rent from these people. read more

I hired Rodney as PM, big mistake. I found his company via bigger pockets. I wish I left him there. This company will leave you with empty pockets, property owners beware. The photos you see, it appears like he has an office in the high rise building. Not, it's a virtual office people. The website for Keyrenter is awesome too, great marketing! I purchased my rental around Memorial Day before Labor Day I had to let Rodney go, he was killing my ROI. He somehow determined my tenant should be paying Less than fair market rent. Listen to this, the rent he collected, guess what?? He gave the rent back to the tenant!! Then he demanded that I send him the security deposit so he could give that back also. They're a rip off. I wouldn't apply unless you have the money to possibly waste on an application. They're also very rude. The man I spoke to on the phone told me several times while talking "I'm going to stop you right there". Extremely unprofessional, they also will take applications while preparing to give the property to someone else. They "rented a property on a Sunday" they're closed on Sunday's which is fishy enough in itself. read more
