I have been going to this Key Food for years even when it was a Bravo before 2019. Soon after it rebranded but I believe that it kept the same ownership with the main focus still being Hispanic Specialty Foods. Yesterday I went in and I'm always reminded of the kind courteous service that I consistently receive when I'm there. From asking for the simplest of things the employees are always so kind and considerate showing care to towards the customer. I picked up a few fresh fruits and vegetables that had tasted better than some other local groceries. This isn't new but the reminder had me writing this review thinking how much I appreciate this Key Food. Then I went to the line where they have fresh cooked foods and the aroma is so wonderful. I've bought this food before too and yes it's always delicious, fresh and tasty better than home cooked but homestyle if you know what to do! I picked up a few Venezuelan Beef empanadas, some Carne Guissada or Beef Stew! I went and looked and had seen some chicken baked and seasoned so perfectly, boy was I right! When I can home the flavors were so good and the chicken tender beyond belief I'm sorry that I didn't get a few pieces more! Show some love and stop in this store is a great place to find fresh meat, seafood, the butcher is fabulous! I don't know much about Key Foods, how big a chain they are (but know they do have other locations than just here in Ocala) but a friend suggested we go here because he said they have a great selection of Latin/Caribbean groceries. He wasn't wrong, The store is pretty large and has items from Latin America with an emphasis on the Caribbean--also has Jamaican and United States items. The produce selection is very good and leans towards Caribbean items you won't easily find at Publix or most grocery stores. Meat selection includes a lot of Latin sausages but fresh cuts of meat to me were not quite on par with Publix's level of quality and I didn't buy any. For dry goods, you kind of have to know they're grouped by type but also by nationality. So in example, you have a selection of spices from United States manufacturers but then separate section in another whole aisle of Goya and Badia spices since these tend to appeal to Latin customers (though also made in the USA I think). Then you have a Jamaican aisle and that's where you'll find Jamaican spices including many varieties of Jamaican curry powder and oxtail stew seasoning. You can't walk up to the first spices you see and go "oh, they don't have any Jamaican curry, pity" because it's just somewhere else. And it's best to walk down every single aisle on your first visit and see what you can see. A few other things to know: --They have a hot bar with a lot of delicious Latin food to go. --They also have fresh Cuban bread and a selection of Latin pastries inclusive of a great assortment of empanadas--Columbian, Puerto Rican, even Argentine empanadas. Technically, this is not a bakery with empanadas but an empanaderia with some pastries, too. --Yes, they do play contemporary Christian music. In English. At first I was like, "is this what I think it is?" then I heard Susan Ashton and that confirmed it. Personally, I don't mind but it would seem more logical to have music in Spanish here. --The music aside, it's very helpful if you do know Spanish. And be specific about which empanadas you want. Do not put the workers of the empanaderia under undue stress by being unclear in your order. read more

I decided to give them another chance. They actually had guanabana this time! Upon looking to pick one, they were all hard whether brown skin or green. I picked one like I've bought in Palm Coast at an Asian market since 2020, mostly green with brown spikes turning softer. I asked am employee why some are so dark brown and still hard. They didn't know. I should have taken that as a sign. When I took my guanabana home and cut it open 2 days later when it was the right firmness, it was all streaked with brown inside. I scooped out the first half and it had horrible taste so I tossed it. I called and told them I would not be in for a few weeks, can I just take photos and bring with my receipt like Publix and Walmart does. I was told to bring what I had left. So I put the 1/2 in a clear container and brought it in today. The customer service rep called someone else to the register. She started speaking to me disrespectfully and implied I didn't know what a good guanabana is. She also accused me of buying it at Publix. I told her Publix doesn't sell these. And I have my receipt. Then she said she would weigh it and only refund the 1/2. I told her that the person I spoke to told me to bring what I have and I could get a refund. I had been nice up till now. She still insisted I can only get 1/2 refunded. It cost $17 so I told her don't give me any cr@p. Just give me my refund like I was promised on the phone. She said she would do it this time but next time I need to bring the whole thing back. I told her thank you and I definitely will now that I know the policy. She started speaking to the other employee in a foreign language so I know she was saying cr@p about me. The person who gave me my refund got nasty with me after I said thank you. I wasn't done with my sentence and she bished me with her words so I would leave. They get no more chances from me! Yes I am one of them crazy people who will drive from Gainesville to Ocala just to visit Key Food. They are clean, they have good hours, and a good variety of meats, fruits, and vegetables. The ambience is clean. They do play Christian music, so I guess if that's offensive to you; it might not be the place for you, but all around they are great. Very interesting ethnic food stores. 95% Hispanic shoppers with foods I've never seen before. There prices are very good. Today I bought my first plantain & the most perfect eggplant I've ever see for only .99# They also have a full hot bar serving ethnic foods & pastries. Check it out. One of the most amazing places I've found in Ocala so far! The supermarket itself is clean and shiny and very well organized. It has a wide selection of meats and veggies and ingredients for Hispanic foods that i didn't know the names of, the deli and hot food section were excellent as well. The ladies were patient with my inquiries and did not rush me along. The portions were huge for the 6.99 price tag. I really enjoyed the papas renellas that were only 1.50 each that are potato balls filled with beef and fried. The churro was excellent as well. I like the store, and have gone there a few times for breakfast, very early. Not early enough! There's a big crowd in the morning and everything sells out FAST. AND YET there's very good coffee for the price, a lot of nice pastries and bread, and a little cafe area to sit. So I haven't actually GOT the Breakfast so far, but still did pretty well, and you can get some Latin groceries. It reminds me of Presidente Markets in Miami, without the intense traffic and crowding. Not quite as cheap! It's a nice outing once a month or so. read more

He was very pleasant and took care of business very professionally. Love the grocery part of the store. Hot food/deli section not so much. Staff rude and ignore you like you're nothing to them. Hot food overpriced. The worst was I ordered two alcapurrias and two pastelillos de carne For my road trip home and the alcapurrias were so HARD I almost broke a tooth--no joke. They must have been real old. The pastelillo meat tasted like dog food and even my mom's chihuahua wouldn't eat it and she eats everything. A total waste of money on overpriced horrible food. The deli in the front had long lines fir the hot bar and bakery. The fresh produce was amazing. Bought baby Bock Chou for $1.99 lb, lemons I think were 5 for $1, bought some of the most beautiful boneless pork tips for ?? about 6 for $3.99 . No organization, almost gave our second plate to people behind us. Since changing from Bravo to Key, this market has had a rebirth! The produce section is fresh and bountiful, the prices are right, and the prepared food counter (deli, hot meals, and pastries.... excellent!). They have fresh breads, croquettas, chicharron, lechon asado, and all your latin favorites. It's nice to know you can get a savory, hearty meal and won't break the bank. This was such an awesome surprise. We had received the flyers in the mail and not noticing many differences in the sales from any other store there wasn't anything that stood out and made us was to do the 20 minute trip past our local grocery stores to come here...Until! We came in passing through the area and boy were we glad we did!! This is "The Latin Grocery Store of Stores". It is so clean inside the staff in very friendly and every one of them are Bilingual. They have foods from all over the place. From Puerto Rico to El Salvador to Jamacian. WOW ! In a town that was lacking in Hispanic flair, Bravo Supermarket has bumped it up a big notch. Found this location by accident driving up 200. Had been getting their circulars in the mail but never knew WHERE they were. They have quite a variety of all types of ethnic foods.. Central American, South American, Jamaican.. you name it ! You can find many traditional dishes here. They have a great deli and lunch special. The oxtail and pig feet were totally amazing ! They also have a small area to eat lunch in store. What a gem of a Latina supermarket! Nearly a dozen aloe, coconut milk, bean, rice and Caribbean bread choices! Prices were lower than other markets and the fresh veggie / produce section was huge and included a few asian veggies also. As a Puerto Rican living in Valdosta Georgia I am so glad that I had found a grocery store that has all the products, vegetables, fruits, and many other products I cannot get in Valdosta. The cook food ALL taste great. I only wish that since Valdosta is growing into a Puerto Rican, Cuban and Dominican community little by little I wish there was a Bravo Supermarket in Valdosta. I normally have to drive 2 hours just to get to the Bravo in Ocala but its worth it. I shop at Bravo because they carry wide selection of vegetable and fruits, but Disappoint about their meat, I bought a fresh whole ham they inject red ( pink ) Food color inks in the pig make it look fresh I squeeze a lot of inks out of the Pork it looks terrible , they should have sign and tell the consumer that meat Is color enhanced, not a natural flash ( blood ) color. read more

The deli is absolutely delicious!!! I finally found some authentic Spanish food in Ocala! They have delicious spanish rice, and the empanadas are to die for. They give you a ton of food for a lunch time meal (one meal can feed two people) and it's not expensive, but be prepared for the long line. Woo! Love this place! My husband and I ventured here to check it out and we have gone back several times since! I would say they have the largest and most varied produce selection in Ocala. Stuff I've never even heard of and decided to try because it looked interesting. Also, if you're a vegetarian/vegan/generally health-conscious and on a budget, you can't pass this place up! Lots of stuff you can only find at Earth Origins for much less! We took my little brother here and he lost it when he saw the crazy Soda varieties! Just a warning though, you're first time in you will spend a long time just looking at all the interesting stuff, especially if you're not Hispanic/Latino like me. A lot of stuff that sounded so unique, I just had to try it! Also the staff is very attentive and kind. As happy as I was to have found a Caribbean afro latino market of Puerto Rican, Dominican, Haitian & Jamaican goods; including a nice quantity of excellent Mexican products & some Central American, I must say that I'm very dissatisfied due to the steep price on redmeat, pork & sea food. $9.99lb for Ranchera "Churrasco" they are out of their mind. First why is meat more expensive in Fl than California at $5.99lb and at times Bravo puts a sale at $5.99lb that is the actual price people. The other issue is their quality went very down, garlic which you see guy putting it out already soft and growing "germ" which makes food bitter for those who do not know. They get rid of avocadoes 0.69 cents I bought 9 to make a cold Cod salad all of them were black inside to my surprise I was very upset because Bravo is about 25min from our house and I had no time to return because I had family coming over. Their coconuts have been sold rancid, the Malanga, the amarillos, the onions, bought lemons that were dried inside, the culantro with many spots, the chicken bruised up-and I spend quite a bit when shopping there for a family of 6 twice a month so you can only imagine. Their prices are ridiculous and their cuts aren't the best: seriously hire a Mexican to cut lomo de res (boneles ribeye) & ranchera because your butchers need to also learn about Mexican style of cutting because who the hell wants to be slicing flank meat at home specially at those ridiculous prices-c'mon now. read more
