Very long lines. But I love there prices. This keyfood has the lowest prices on everthing. Its costco quality but you do not have to buy as much.

Renovations on the making, new management making improvements.

CTown Supermarkets - Turkey and feta from two different stores out of thousands in New York City

The selection and quality of the shopping experience are not like they are at IDEAL more east on…read moreHillside Avenue, which I would rate better than any Manhattan market I have visited. After going there for years since it is convenient, the miserable deli man refused to change an order HE got wrong, accused me of getting it wrong and always returning things, and a first-time manager, probably the youngest son of the owner, believed him and told me not to return. I have returned, but the deli manager, a tall man who is not nice to me, told the deli guy not to give me feta. Guess what? I bought it somewhere else because there are many later, better markets. Choosing to believe a relatively new worker and having an inexperienced manager and other horrible relatively new manager considering when I and older family members started shopping there, de ades ago, is gross customer service and very uneducated. Guess what? I have what I need from several places. It may be incredible to believe, but I found turkey and feta elsewhere. Later in the week, when I am in Astoria, I can find a variety of feta in several stores like Meditteranean Foods, Titan, or Euro Market, and I don't even eat it often. Also: Years ago, a manager I have known for a long time refused to give me a refund on an item that was past due, but an older owner's son did.

I'm generally not a fan of CTown supermarkets. However, this is one of the few ones in the area…read morethat carry neatly packaged frozen halal meat. Most of the halal meat stores in the neighborhood only do butcher style meat. Entering the store, you will feel a bit of unease as they check any excess bags you might be carrying, which you then have to leave at the store front. I guess Hillside Avenue is not the safest street, so I can understand that. Generally, I find that most items are overpriced and have been sitting in the shelves for way too long. Place has a very old look to it but that's fine since it's clean. I like that they do whole hot rotisserie chickens here and they have a cold cut section that also does Halal turkey slices and other deli meats. As some of the other reviews have suggested , this place does not do pork so just be aware if that is a priority for you. I find that the halal meats here are overpriced in my opinion. I paid almost 10 bucks for 1lb of ground beef, which would've cost me way less in Jackson Heights (another heavily south Asian neighborhood in Queens). The Al-Safa brand frozen chicken nuggets are also way more expensive here than in Jackson Heights (not to mention it's probably been sitting in their freezer for a long time too). While I'm grateful that we have options in this neighborhood, I really do hope the manager/owner will reconsider their meat prices. Hillside is heavily populated with Muslims, so there's going to be a good demand for affordable halal meat .

The main purpose for stopping here was so I could buy thinly sliced chicken cutlets. They do not carry thinly sliced cutlets. The cutlets they had were ginormous & super expensive! I could've bought them & sliced them myself but that would've taken up too much time. Time that I do not have. There was a $14 package that contained three huge cutlets. They did not have anything cheaper. Being that I was frustrated with not finding what I needed for my Italian Night I left. I ended going to the Key Food by me.

He had his back turned to me and I said "good morning" to get his attention. When he turned around, I asked if he could cover his face properly while making my order - something he should be doing anyway. He never responded and turned his back to me again to starting cutting my order. When I tried to get his attention so that he would comply with my request, he turned around abruptly and screamed at me that he couldn't breathe with the mask on and kept cutting my order. At this point I went to go get a manager. I don't like having to wear this mask either, but I'm also not trying to get sick and this is the law now - after all. When I went to go find a manager, there was no urgency or alarm in anyone trying to help me or rectify the situation. I had to look up to that office on high that all supermarkets have, and I found a woman up there with a man laughing, both unmasked, doing whatever. I said to him "there's a man at the deli that won't put his mask on properly while he's making my order". The manager said "ok" like he was coming down to assist me, but he never came down, so I left. There are far too many other supermarkets here to have to be bothered with such foolishness. I won't be returning - ever. If they are so nonchalant about even wearing masks, I can only imagine what other foolishness is happening behind the scenes that we are not privy too. SO disgusting.

Why?: Because I was shockingly just accosted by 2 Black/African-American female employees at this location who wanted to rush me out the store before I could complete my purchases! First incident started with employee with name tag that said "Armiah"just before 8:00PM telling me that the store was "closed"in a very cold and disturbingly rude tone complete with the nastiest glare that a female can give! She indicated that she "didn't care" that I was still shopping! The second employee who tried to bully me out of the store came out of no where yelling and waving her arms for me to get out of "her store" and that she refused to "serve" me as a customer! She wouldn't tell me her name or position! I dropped the basket full to the top with groceries and I attempted to calmly exit the business as they violently persued me to the front door! The second female did not have on what appeared to be any type of uniform or identification indicating that she was an employee of Dollar General or any other business! The genious had a name plate chain around her neck that said "CIARA". She even tried and failed to effectively tuck the chain into her shirt in order to hide her name, after she realized I already read her chain and said her name out loud! They were both so aggressive and out of control that I thought for a split second that they were going to both physically assault me! They were both screaming and yelling at me calling me a "bi@&# and using all kinds of profanity as they persued me aggressively around the store to prevent me from completing my purchases! "CIARA"actually followed me out of the front door of the store and lunged at me with fist balled attempting to get close enough to hit me! I know I'm not the only person this has happened to! They seemed to be too comfortable calling me names, cursing and physicslly threatening me. Today they met their match I'm almost 50 years young, worked with youth for over 30 years and I'll be damned if I take any disrespect from some young bullies with obviously no formal education or home training! I've been shopping #DollarGeneral stores for over 10 yrs, spending well over a C-note on each trip! I spent over $100.00 last week alone in a Bronx, New York location. I won't be back there either! Shame on Dollar General @ Jamaica Avenue for hiring these criminals as workers! I am veteran of the New York City Department of Correction as well as a retired Social Worker for the City as well. I had a mind to call 911 on both of these brutish young divas who behaved more like 2 rabid dogs than decent employees who should have simply helped me find the items that I came in to purchase, thereby speeding up my shopping trip, allowing me to exit the store quickly and efficiently without a major hassel. FYI: They were probably rushing everyone out of the store so they could help themselves to some 5-finger discounts with no one watching. God and his angels up above are always watching! This is not the last #DollarGeneral has heard from me. I'm not stopping until they are both terminated from their employment there! Blessed evening to everyone!Remember to stay safe out there-This world is getting colder, darker and more cruel by the day!SMDH.

I placed a small order for provisions (Yuca, plantain, sweet potatoes, organic pumpkin and Organic corn on the cob) to make my homemade caribbean style chicken soup. Sadly none of the organic items were available and needed to be replaced with non-organic items. The produce was fresh however, which is why I gave 2 stars. The major disappointment was the fact that I also ordered 5 cases of 24/ 0.5 liters of water and at least 5 bottles from each case had a weird chemical plastic like taste. The smell was quite rancid upon opening each bottle and the taste was even worse. I had to request a refund and throw them out. They also were NOT expired, so I'm baffled as to why they smelled and tasted so awful. Ended up having to place an order with Amazon Fresh to replace them. I normally order my groceries from Fresh, should've just done that from the jump! I probably won't be ordering from here again. If I do, I definitely won't be getting water!!

This Caribbean-centric market is compact but well-stocked and neatly organized, although if an item eludes you, ask as it may be just a few steps away. The store shares two adjacent storefronts. Besides readily available items, there are many common island ingredients: okra, peppers (Scotch bonnets, sweet, pimento), dasheen bush, callaloo leaf, and thyme. Groceries include many varieties of grains, salted fish (dry and wet in bag), sauces and seasonings, spices, snacks, and canned and jarred goods, and among them, plentiful Caribbean imports. Pig's tail and salted beef too! The fruits and vegetables are great to buy. Besides produce, I've also purchased canned ackee, dried sorrel petals, Crix crackers (multiple types), Golden Ray margarine, salted fish, salted beef, browning sauce, curry powder, and a myriad of other spices and seasonings.
