So I've been here a bunch of times and despite the poor reviews for this place I don't think I've ever had a problem with anything so far. The supermarket offers a very wide selection of products but the prices are definitely higher than other local supermarkets which can definitely turn some customer away. Last time I was here I got some cold cuts from the deli, the guy who helped me was nice and got some bread with which I made some great sandwiches. This is an OK Key Food. Compared to the other grocery options in the immediate area it's the best of the worst. I can usually find whatever I'm looking for here, though I frequently get sticker shock at how highly priced some items here are. I come to this location mostly on my way home from the gym for things that I'm out of and need in a pinch. The produce here is just okay. The meat section here leaves a lot to be desired - they don't have a single package of turkey bacon for sale, and there have been other instances like this that I've just found weird that they don't have. The service moves along quickly here, though. Shelves are decently organized. Fine for a quick stop, but I'd do my major grocery shopping elsewhere (Food Bazaar is worth the trek to me). read more

The only ppl who have a problem with this store are the transplants from Idaho and who knows where who moved to Astoria. Key Food has got great selection and variety. I esp love all the Balkan items. The store hours are listed as closing at 10pm, on the door and online, yet they regularly close at 9:45/9:50pm. This is not a store in a mall. You are not bound by anchor stores. You can close whenever you want, but it's bad business to close earlier than the posted hours. I passed other grocery stores on the way to yours to attempt to patronize my local, but when you were closed early it was too late to go back to the other. This cost me time and money. I went today to buy a few items and the total price was CRAZY, $57 for eggs, corn oil, jelly, pandoro, oat, salmon. I took a look a the receipt and I noticed that 2 items were added to the bill - one $12 and the other $6. So I went back and I asked an explanation. They agreed they charges me $20 of items I didn't purchase, and I waited more than 10 minutes to have the money back. Fortunately I always double check my receipt, and I suggest to do the same! read more

Food (meat / veg/ fruit) is almost always old/rotten. Quality is terrible. they leave their bottled water out in direct sunlight to steep extra microplastics, and on top of being a terrible quality store, they now require you to check your reusable shopping bag at the entrance, so you have to purchase their plastic shopping bags, because they're not allowed to give away plastic shopping bags? but its ok when you charge money for them. I promise to shoplift from this store after checking my bags, just to prove how stupid this policy is. eat a dick and die read more

It's a nice grocery store. There's everything you need, a lot of stuff you don't, and there's more packed on the shelves than you might think. Has some local / independent brands along with the typical items from national brands (though maybe not in every flavour variation under the sun). Staff are kind and helpful. I like the store and especially the deli guys.... friendly and efficient and they are accommodating as I order my ham "shredded." Big selection compared to Trade Fair which is very subpar. On the negative side though, their candy bars are sometimes expired and the biggest turnoff are the fresh rolls in the bins.... insect problem as in flies. Last few times I reached for a roll, sure enough, THERE ARE FLIES! This insect dilemma has been present for years. Key Food needs to walk over to 30th Ave. Tradefair.... they have a correct setup. I can only imagine how difficult it is to maintain a supermarket in a proper fashion, but none of the staff notices the FLIES??? I feel fortunate to live fairly close to a supermarket, especially one that carries a lot of different international foods and organic options. What I don't like is never knowing if I'm going to find good produce. I often have three recipes in mind in case, say, the eggplants look terrible or there are no onions left. The prices are pretty much what you'd expect in Astoria. I appreciate that they carry my coffee options, but they do not have CPK frozen pizza, which makes me sad. Convient AF! Key foods is our first stop shop for quick dinner fixes and add ons. Always clean and organized, fresh produce, and a helpful staff. With United Brothers across the street I would recommend their produce for the price and freshness, but Key Foods has everything you need if the walk across is too painful. Why not 5 stars, Krouse? I'm very disappointed with the ill treatment of customers, irresponsibility, back stabbing other keyfood chain stores, selling awfully expired items, all shown by the supervisor who spoke with me. All the below took place at Key Food Supermarkets, 42-15 30th Ave, Astoria, NY 11103 1. The milk I bought was expired 10 days prior. I bought it today, 4/15/20 and its expiration date was 4/5/20. 2. The supervisor demanded I bring a receipt, when I told him that I already threw the receipt in the garbage, he claimed that by law I have to keep the receipt! and said that 'an educated person' would know better. 3. When I told him that I do not keep such small receipts specially during covid-19 as I sanitize everything I buy and throw containers and receipts right away. He did not care for the circumstances and demanded a picture of the receipt. I asked him if he expects me to to dig in the garbage, he said he is trying to 'help' me correcting my mistake! 4. At no point he was apologetic.He refused to apologize or take responsibility of selling milk 10 days after its expiration date! 5. When I told him he can check the cameras, that I was there between 10 am-11 am, he said he cannot check it. 6. I called him again and this time he tried to act less unprofessional as I said I'm recording but he was not willing to provide the normal customer service of returning the item. 7. He tried to claim it has to be the other keyfood store in the area! I told him I know which store I go to and I already gave him the address. He even claimed that on the 1st call the impolite store was the other one--I called the same number and believe I spoke with the same person. read more

Decent supermarket if you're in the area. Beer wise, they're no Foodtown, but still have a nice selection and prices here are great for produce/food and deli stuff. Good selection of Spanish products which always makes me a happy chica, but I probably wouldn't come here if I needed fancier stuff to make a fancypants culinary meal...but if I needed simple basic things like bread, pasta, rice, beans then yeah, this is your place. read more

Okay, so one of the perks of living in Astoria is the proximity to Manhattan. It's a 20 subway ride to Steinway street or or 30 minute bus ride from 59th and second Ave to 30 ave. Not a bad commute at all. I used to save big money on grocery food here and that was a savings but not so much as I learned this afternoon when I stood outside Key Food and had to mentally calculate my receipt in awe. Please view the photo because it's really not a lot of items. In fact there is no Milk, Bread, Meat, Ice Cream, Fruit or Produce in my purchase. The kind if items that you would expect to buy and spend on. Actually I was just getting some staples for lunch and cold Cuts. That's it. Eleven perishable items to be exact. With a grand total of $55.20! I'm sure that my cold cuts are good quality, but it's still only Swiss cheese and turkey people! The Deli department is very organized and the staff is attentive but great service is what I expect. The prices here at this Key Food are astronomical and unless you want to splurge I suggest you shop at C-Town on 28 ave instead. read more

I pass Key Foods daily on my short trek back home from the N/Q stop at 30th Ave. I wandered in the other day during a torrential downpour, and was amazed that I had never ventured in before. Amazing selection of products -- especially for those who are dieting. Was thrilled to see a clean and organized produce section, as well as their selection of cheeses and Greek products in their deli area. This place is not necessarily a cheap option, but it is so nice, I'd even go as far as to say I like it better than Bravo on 34th Ave. read more

Anyway, this is the 2nd Key Foods on 30th Ave - this one is past Steinway. It's clean, decent produce (although my friends aren't impressed), not too crowded (for now!), refrigerated beer, decent aisle of toiletries/home products, natural foods (but no Puffins). Also, it wasn't until I was in this Key Foods that I realized that Key Foods has its own radio station. If the grocery store closest to you is shitty, like mine, try this one. read more

I am one of the lucky ones to live right down the block from Key Foods. I pass by it everyday to and from work and I am delighted to have this store as my one stop shop. I am a vegeterain and I try to buy mostly organic, Key Food has a great selection of produce and Organics, they are always adding new items every week. They have great sales and buy one get one's. And everytime I'm in there, they are always cleaning and stocking the shelves. It took me a while to find where everything was but now that I got the hang of it, I'm in and out in 10 minutes. read more

This is clearly a mediocre supermarket. The milk is expensive, aisles are narrow and messy, and there are very few varieties of pasta. It's obviously better than a bodega, but everyone knows bodegas are terrible. My girlfriend tried to surprise me with chocolate powder since I like chocolate milk, but it was expired. This supermarket is soooo much better than the other Key Foods near the N/Q 30th Ave stop. But it's no Whole Foods. I'm not even a Whole Foods snob. I don't even like that place, but in NYC, all supermarkets should emulate Whole Foods in terms of cleanliness, variety, and freshness. This Key Foods is actually pretty decent. I learned that all Key Foods are franchises and that the owner of this store between 42nd and 43rd is pretty on top of his supermarket. I don't know what the hell the other guy is doing between 31st and 32nd. The aisles are a little cramped, but it seems that the food is much fresher here and the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood. I always feel ripped off at the other Key Foods near the subway. I like the bread selection here more, and the very neighborhood feel of the overall store. I would walk to this store over the other Key Foods ANY DAY. read more

It is the most convenient grocery store in the hood. By that i mean ; you have no limit to use your credit/debit card and they also have a self checkout thingy. The cons : their sales suck bad. I never save more than 4$ in their store (compared with Food Emporium where i use to save from 7 to 15$ a visit) . read more

I've gotten my groceries from here many times. I like this store a lot because it's never overly busy and there is a lot of space to move around and you don't get stressed trying to look for your stuff (compared to Trade Fair around the corner). They have a lot of different types of food and items that I haven't found in the other supermarkets in the area. The meat products seem to be fresh and of good quality, but the price is often too high for what it is. I compare the general items I always get when I shop and compare to other stores in the area, almost all of Key Food's products are more expensive. I mainly come here because it's more calm than other stores and they have a selection of groceries I can't find elsewhere. It's also very clean in here. read more

I stopped in specifically to buy some salad items, because I wasn't going to be near the produce shops I normally frequent down by the N/W train station. All I really wanted was some small basic items like a package of argula, a nice Persian cucumber, etc. What I found was that ALL of the packaged greens looked tired and old. The place is clean and well organized. The staff are usually always really helpful especially the managers when you ask them where something is they are ready to show you were things are. This is important Bc when I'm in a rush I need to be in and out. Some places say aisle 3 then you are in aisle 3 for a few minutes looking. Some of the staff that works the lottery cashier are usually just hanging out and not willing to take on customers while the lines are long. the cashier is not being used so why not just say next customer and you can relieve some pressure from those long lines. There are a few options in the immediate vicinity. This one is def my go to spot. The prices are normal. Except for water. 1.69 for a gallon of Poland Spring? This is not the first time I've picked up expired items from there but the first I've bought and eaten (I never thought to check candy but I guess I have to). 2 years shopping here, and they know me by name. And they know my groceries when I check out, and also ask If I've forgotten anything. That's service when it comes to a grocery store. Not as big as the other Key Food on 30th Ave., but were they are small they really pack it in. They always have tons of basics on stock, and their deli area is really comparable to a lot of local small run delis.
