My tenant started contacting Camillus House in Miami for rental assistance back in 11/2024. Both…read morethe tenant and landlord provided all needed documents in a timely fashion in multiple rounds. However, the communication from Camillus House was always blurry. They always told us the case would be processed in a couple of weeks and nothing happened in the next a couple of months. When we contacted them again, the same thing happened. They kept asking for new documents. However, once the new document was provided and they just stopped communication. It seems that this Camillus House does NOT really want to provide assistance but merely stays in business so that the staff get paid by the donated money. I would like to share my story so that others can get a better picture of this organization.

I did online research to find the best place to donate assorted goods: clothes (adult and children)…read morefurniture, home goods, toys... I love that this is a family friendly place and I love their high success rate of getting people off the streets and into real housing, not just their homeless shelter. Which is probably why they take ALL SORTS of donations. When you have residents get a fresh start in their own place, they could use the furniture and wall pictures and dishes and vases and stuff. Which makes it different than a normal homeless shelter. I donate stuff about once a month to either this location or to the downtown location. (I have put the word out to neighbors and friends that they can drop stuff at my house, even if I'm not home. You'd be amazed how many people just throw stuff away because when they are in the cleaning mood, they want it gone now.) When I go to drop off, there is great security. Also, the residents seem to do volunteer hours and come out to help me unload my van and then sort our the donations. When I go inside for my receipt, I overhear conversations where they are helping residents set up appointments and job interviews. I am very impressed with this organization.

Children and their families are very blessed to have a facility like this that allows their family members to be close to them during a difficult time. Everything in the facility is pretty much donated by various organizations. From the food to the rooms these families are provided for. The facility is kept clean and for the most part looks very comfortable. If I had the funds I would pour into these facilities as well because insurance only covers so much.

I have met so many wonderful friends. The women are all inspiring and supportive of one another. We are always trying to help and support all members in league and outside. The league also serves as a training organization, where members can learn new tools such as fundraising, retention/recruitment, events, development and many other skills that can be applicable in all aspects of life. "The SaludArte Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been playing an important role…read moresupporting the arts by providing a platform to promote the development of educational and social integration programs through the visual and performing arts, serving the U.S and Latin America since its beginning in 2003." SaludArte aims to integrate and empower individuals with disabilities through artistic expression. They invited our Art Class from The WOW Center Miami, along with 20 of our students, to experience a two day workshop with amazing dancers from Spain. Our students all have different disabilities, from autism to Down syndrome, and every single one left feeling inspired and free. SaludArte brings different artists to every workshop they host and it's beyond incredible for every participant! They learned how to improvise and make art with their bodies based on what they hear and feel! Our next workshop will be with a sculpture artist! We can not wait! Besides hosting these workshops, SaludArte hosts a whole Art Gallery showing for different people - whether it be someone not trained professionally or someone with a disability. They have kindly asked us to fill their space this upcoming August and we are ecstatic to show off our students work in such a beautiful space with kind hearted people! This nonprofit does such a beautiful job supporting those often overlooked and they are beyond worth checking out! Check their website for a Calendar of events and don't miss out!
