When I first got to Lubbock five and half years ago I called quite a few veterinary clinics just to see which receptionist had the kindest sounding voice, Key Animal Clinic won. I believe the person I talked to all those years ago was Rachel, but I could be wrong. In the past I have been shamed to the point of tears by a vet*, so I was nervous about my first visit to the clinic with my cat of three years, nervous up until the point I met the vets Dr. Priya A. Dahanukar and Dr. Emily N. Shockey. They were calm and comfortable around cats. The whole experience was great. When I went up front to pay, they gave me a first time customer discount and some free advantage (they also did this when I brought in a new cat several years later . . . I guess the cats are the real customers ;-). I also met Dr. Key once before I had to move and in that brief visit he gave me a number of a person to interview for an article I was interested in writing! Over the five and a half years I went to Key Animal Clinic I never had a bad experience and I never had to wait that long to get in, which is nice, considering the mixed (cat and dog) waiting room. If I were a millionaire I would hire these vets as my personal on call cat healers, since I'm not a millionaire I'll settle for writing them a stellar review. Very caring and willing to listen to concerns. Go above and beyond to determine what is wrong and treat the issue not just the symptoms. We take or dog and cat to them. Amazing from the moment you walk in the door until you are satisfied. They also follow up to ensure all is well after you are back home. read more

If you are bringing your pet to this vet for end of life care, decisions, I would NOT recommend this place. My cat has been a big part of my family for 20 years and her health declined instantly yesterday. She was lethargic and having what seemed to be seizures. She could not walk without falling and her body physically flipping around. She turned from a lively, feisty cat to a non-responsive apparently sick cat over night. :( I brought my cat to this clinic to seek answers and care. The staff at this clinic placed their total focus on "MONEY".. not on how my pet was doing.. or what I was feeling from having to see her drastic decline. The staff started off with presenting me with a long list of "tests" they wanted to run.. Multiple tests that had NOTHING to do with her immediate care... Tests that would cost SEVERAL hundreds of dollars... I kept advising them that she is 20 years old, I didn't want to put her through unnecessary tests that had nothing to do with why I was there with her. Staff continued to want to "negotiate" the tests, leaving me in the room for very extended lengths of time, multiple times, going back and forth with the doctor to figure out what tests were actually "Necessary" to be done. This staff left me feeling like I was purchasing a used car and they were the salesman... No sense of compassion for what my pet was experiencing and for what I was feeling... Final prognosis from vet.. My cat was constipated?????? Really :( With that, anyone considering this clinic, should really think twice about it. Always nice to me and professional. They are very empathetic. The doctors really do care about my animals.

They were good before the move. Last visit was $1000 for two dog semi annual check up. Now they can't even schedule emergent appointments. I'll find a new vet! read more

Just like any other doctor these days... you show up 5 minutes early to your appointment for sonething thatll take 5 minutes, but sit in the waiting room for 37 minutes before you get seen. read more

Dr. Shockey is GREAT! She is so knowledgeable and thorough. She makes sure you are fully aware of everything that is going on and the potential of what could happen. I also love how she is very informative about pricing on things before she just does them. Lots of Vets don't do that. read more

Love this place! Everyone is very friendly and helpful throughout the entire process, from check-in to check-out. Our kitty actually doesn't mind coming and they handle him with the best of care. Even if something unforeseen happens, they make sure that the pets are well taken care of. I love my senior discount! read more

My experience has always been great! All of the doctors and staff are friendly & professional! It is also very affordable compared to other vets for immunizations. I had an emergency situation for my puppy & I was very thankful I was able to pay the full amount up front! Highly recommend for your fur babies! read more

I absolutely love this place and apparently so does my dog because I have to drag him out the place. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I needed to be soon asap due to my puppy showing signs of sickness and they got me in that day. Plus they give student discounts which is a win win in my book. read more

This is one of the best groups of doctors in Lubbock. My experiences were always positive here with my 3 pets over the span of 5 years, and from what I've seen the prices are very reasonable, and the vets don't over-treat to pad the invoice. I know several people who have taken their pets to Dr. Key for 40+ years, and he is regarded as one of the best diagnostic vets in town. Dr. D is always so friendly and just adores your pets as much as you do. I'm pretty sure this clinic also offers physical therapy and more invasive surgeries, as well, so it's a good deal. Dr. Shockley, Dr. D., and all the staff are knowledgable and caring. They explained everything that would be done for our Max during surgery. I trust them to do the very best they can. They called to tell me how much it would cost, called to tell me how surgery went, and when we picked him up-Dr. D. and staff came in to explain what was done and how to care for him at home. They didn't rush us even when though it was at closing time. Thank you Key Animal Clinic for loving ALL our beagles and taking care of them. Recommend y'all to EVERYONE!!! read more

I took my chihuahua mix in for her yearly shots and because she was showing signs of seasonal allergies. We got to the exam room rather quickly after getting all of the paperwork filled out and the staff in the back was quite friendly. However after the exam we went to pay, and the price was MUCH higher than I had anticipated. When I asked the girl that was checking me out to break down the charges for me, she gave me quite a bit of attitude. Now, I am a college student with very limited funds and I am sorry if I don't want to fork over a huge wad of cash without knowing exactly what I am paying for. Once she broke it down I realized they were not at all straightforward with their prices. I was not told how much something would be in the exam room unless I asked every 5 seconds, even though I expressed financial concern. Apparently I still didn't ask enough. The care itself was fine, but the rude staff up front and the lack of straightforwardness of the prices will probably keep me from returning to the clinic. read more

I have taken my boxer to Key Animal Clinic since she was a puppy (over two years). Most of the staff are nice, but I have had two very frustrating experiences with diagnostics. After breeding my puppy with our male boxer, I took her in to KAC to have them check if she was pregnant. After paying for a sonogram, read by both vets, I was told she was absolutely not pregnant. Two months later, I brought her in again (because she was huge), and was told she would have 6-8 puppies within one week. She did. Did I get a refund on the sonogram? No. An apology? No. An "oops, we got it wrong...."? Nope. Also, I took her in last year for regular shots/checkup and pointed out a mole/lesion on her side. I was told it was a "benign skin button or clogged sebacious gland." So, I thought nothing of it...until the "benign button" started growing. When I took her in yesterday for, again, shots and checkup, I was met by a freakout of two vets and one tech - "Do you know anything about boxers?" and "Boxer people usually freak out, because they all know that boxers are the most tumor-prone breed." Well, excuse me for not being a breeder...or an expert. I thought that was your job. After two incorrect diagnoses (on such big issues as PREGNANCY and CANCER), I don't believe I'll be trusting this clinic with my puppy anymore. read more
