When I was there the office staff was very nice but I again asked if they took my insurance and was assured they did. During the visit they claimed I needed a deep cleaning and it wouldn't be covered. I specifically told them I wouldn't want anything not covered. They said since I needed a deep cleaning they wouldn't even do a standard cleaning unless I opted for the deep cleaning which they said would have been an extra $800!! So I wasted my time to go here but wait, it gets better! They then sent me a $400 bill for the X-rays they told me were covered!! Are you kidding me?? I would NEVER recommend this place based off these shady billing practices!! I am definitely going to challenge that bill since under nj law they have to tell you if they don't take your insurance!

My dentist of 20years retired over 2 years ago and I had the task of finding new one. I tried a couple dentists that I didn't like so I did my research found the reviews of Laser Dentistry of North Jersey. I was impressed with the reviews and I made an appt to meet with them for a consultation because I needed a lot of work. What a Breath of Fresh air to speak with the staff and their friendly and caring demeanor. When was the last time you went to a doctors office where they had great customer service and treated you with care and respect. Every member of the stall were extremely friendly and really made you will comfortable, let's face it no one likes the dentist. Unfortunately I have dealt with a lot of doctors offices and Laser Dentistry of NJ is Far and Above any other office I have been to. I generally don't write a lot of reviews but this place deserves it. Every time I had a procedure done, they called me later in the day or the next to see how I was feelin. They Do Care about their patients. I have called the office when I had a problem and Dr Bucher told me come in the next day.....(A Sunday) to take care of my problem.......Amazing! Please do your self a favor and and see Dr Bucher at Laser Dentistry of N J. I have been coming here now over 2 years and it was the best decision I made.

The task was enormous - at least to me it certainly had sounded overwhelming. But Dr. G's incredible patience and thoughtfulness, and the respectful manner in which he explains everything - treating you as a partner rather than simply a patient - made me choose him over two other doctors I had been considering. And I am so happy I did! Today, after many months or our collaboration I am in a very different place: medically, aesthetically, and emotionally. What's also very important to me is that Dr. Gerskowitz looks at the patient and his/her health in a integral way, which so rare at our time of infinite specialization. He is a real master. His approach is careful and intelligent, and what they call "bedside manner" is superb: once you are in his office, you immediately feel at ease. Dr. Gerskowitz is simply the best dentist I've seen in my life and one of the very best doctors of any specialization I've encountered. I just wish I found him earlier. The staff is equally great - I use this office now for my general dental maintenance and checkups. Everyone is knowledgeable and friendly. I normally go to the River Edge office, but have been to the Wayne location, too. Dr. G.'s practice is the place I recommend to my friends and family - that says it all. Thank you, Alexander, Andrey, Theresa, and everyone at AvantGarde!

The young lady dentist assigned to me was very inexperienced. She extracted the molar by chipping and hacking away where she eventually removed the molar in pieces. I ended swallowing bits of the molar. In that visit, since I had insurance , this place did anything and everything to max out as much as they could from my insurance. I was told that 25% of the bill had to be paid upfront, which was $588. That night I bled quite a bit and had tremendous discomfort. The next day my face was swollen and I had a slight fever and realized something wasn't right. I When to another Dentist to get to the bottom of why I was bleeding so much and had this puffiness and why I had all this discomfort. Was told that the reason I bled so much was because the stitching done at this Avant garde place was because it was done on one side of the gum and that the stitching should've have been done in a cross road method as opposed to one side of the gum and the grafting to cover the hole in the gum area was not there. Was also told that I also had an infection as well and was given a prescription. I ended Spending an additional $750 to correct this mess done at Avant garde. To add insult to injury, no pun intended, Avant garde wanted another$1,590. I left skid marks at Avant garde. As mentioned, it was a horrible experience. Stay away...

I called for wisdom tooth extraction and made an appointment with them, I asked them if they participate with my insurance (finding a place that participates with my insurance is a challenge on it self) however, they told me over the phone that they did participate with my insurance. They scheduled my appointment and then proceed to tell me that there was a chance for me to get the tooth extracted that same day because their oral surgeon was in-house. I went for my appointment, they did my x-rays and then Dr. Rana comes in, sees my x-rays and tells me that they were going to extract all 3 of my wisdom teeth. I was in a bit of a shock, because I only went to get one extracted, due to my insurance and financial situation. As I was explaining to him that I only could get one tooth extracted, Dr. Rana left the office and didn't even let me finish talking and sent me to talk to their office manager. So, when I sat down with their office manager and declined to get my 3 wisdom teeth extracted again, everything changed. After they wanted me to get my 3 wisdom teeth extracted that same day and I said no. The narrative changed, they started telling me that their oral surgeon was out of network, and that my insurance only covered 50% of out of network procedures. Then all the sudden their oral surgeon was not available until July 6 and if I still wanted to go through with the procedure, I'd have to pay their $650 dollars p/tooth extraction fee up front and then they'd have to see how much my insurance would cover. Even when I called back to get them to email me the x-ray their tone changed. they were not as nice as they were when I first called them. They were so deceiving, and left a bunch of details out, didn't even bother to prescribe me anything for the pain. Basically told me, go some find some place else. Please steer clear and be careful when dealing with them.

I had been going to this dentistry for the entirety of my teenage and adult years, moved out of state two years ago but hadn't decided on a new dentist yet so when visiting family almost a year ago, early spring time 2025 I booked back to back days, one for cleaning + X-rays the next for any cavities that may need to be handled. I came in first day for cleaning got that all done. Found cavities okay cool come in the next day to get them filled. Nope they tell me that day was booked for me for a second cleaning or something? Tell me to come back in a week or two which is obviously not easily possible as I live a 5 hour plane flight away now. I book a trip for a few months later in June and booked for all 3 cavities to be done with them. I come in and this time I'm seen by the woman doctor, can't remember her name. Too annoyed to look it up now. She tells me she doesn't have time for all three which is kinda insane because I booked for this you know months ago. She tells me she'll do 2 and I can come back in a few days for the other one. I tell her no girlboss I'm getting on a plane tomorrow morning and you guys were supposed to do this months ago. She begins the cavities, drills down, literally leaves the room for 30-45+ mins and I'm just there with my mouth open for a long time. She seems extremely distracted and rushed. She "finishes" the cavities and I'm sent out. Essentially because she was rushing so much she did not properly scoop out the entire cavity and covered it so it continued to rot and infect downwards to my nerves. My mouth hurts so much. It doesn't stop hurting. I call two weeks later asking why one specific tooth hurts so bad and they just tell me my gums are irritated and I'll be fine. I've broken bones, had surgeries, dealt with pain before but this was different. This was debilitating to the point of not being able to move or speak. Soon after I go on vacation to some islands. Snorkeling, going on planes frequently, my tooth is in insane pain I can't even open my mouth to breathe the air hurts my tooth. Imagine spending thousands for a nice vacation and not even being able to eat ice cream and waking up every single day in terrible pain. I return home and immediately see a dentist in the town I now live in and they do X-rays, tell me I need a root canal. This is in August 2025 at this point. I get it done, flash forward to late February 2026 and I still cannot eat on the right side of my mouth. The tooth will not calm down and I'm told there's likely small fractures in the tooth that can't be picked up on X-ray and I have to go to a specialist and probably need it removed and an implant now. So if you truly care about your health and want your teeth to stay in your skull and not wastes thousands of dollars, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I had a whole childhood of traumatic dentist experiences that caused some serious adult rebellion…read moreof me sticking it to the man by just not going to the dentist for a decade in my 20s. I eventually paid the piper for that one, and since that time, I've realized that the key to me not avoiding the dentist and taking care of my teeth the way I know I should is finding a person that intuitively adheres to trauma-informed principles of care: respects/believes patients, explains what they're going to do and when, communicates safety clearly, etc. I had a great dentist in NYC and then COVID happened and then we moved to NJ and yeah, I've been delaying finding a new dentist for, um, mumblesfouryearscough. I knew it was time to establish care here and I knew a whole boatload of 5 star Yelp reviews wouldn't lie. First off, my intake paperwork asked me what I was looking for / what was most important to me in a dentist. Then it asked if there was any accommodation I might need to feel more comfortable. Then it asked my anxiety level on a scale of 1-10. No one has ever asked me this before. On the day of my visit, having given this much thought, I decided to let my freak flag fly and asked my hygienist if I could just keep the xray apron on for my whole cleaning. If she batted an eyelash, I didn't notice, and me and my weighted blanket snuggled in for an excellent polish. Well, it turns out I had a cavity. Made an appointment to go back to have it filled. Considered asking for an Rx for a single valium, but decided against it. I was brought into a room that seemed to date to a revolutionary war time period visually, but with modern technology. THE CHAIR MASSAGED ME. Dr. Kim explained what he was going to do, showing me my xray once more, numbed me up, removed my old filling and fixed up my cavity in like, 6 minutes. I don't know if it was the ambiance of the room, the chair massage, Dr. Kim's evident competence, or the acoustic Bruno Mars song playing, but I did not feel I had been locked out of heaven. To the contrary, this was an excellent experience. If you are afraid of the dentist, this is the place for you.
