Dr Kirby is a podiatrist. Very nice man and explains things where one can understand them. He doesn't talk down to you and makes suggestions for foot comfort. I highly recommend Dr. Kirby. read more

Dr. Kirby was great. I filled out the paperwork before I came, so I was ready. We arrived a little early (30 minutes), but was able to be seen within 15 minutes. The front desk lady was nice and helpful. He knew exactly what the issue was when he examined my foot. He was very straight to the point with no guessing. He modified my shoe inserts for me which helped. Then he said to ice everyday and stay off the foot for 3 weeks and see how I feel. He also recommended some sandals to wear around the house; the Oofos frrom Fleet Feet. That will be our next stop. The consultation fee was reasonable to get this diagnosis that Kaiser podiatrist couldn't help with. I'd recommend him if you have foot issues. read more

Dr Kirby has been a wonderful doctor!! I can't express how satisfied I am with his services

I've seen Dr. Kirby a few times and he was great! He knew exactly what I needed, he actually examined my foot and where my pain was coming from unlike other doctors who have tried to diagnose me by what my symptoms were. He made me feel heard while other doctors made it seem like I was seeking pain meds or time off of work when all I wanted to know was what exactly was wrong with my foot and how can I help it because I was in so much pain, I could hardly walk. Which made my job extremely hard because I'm on my feet my entire shift. The front reception was welcoming and overall, I had a great experience. Thank you Dr. Kirby for my custom insoles! They've helped improve my day to day tremendously! read more

Dr. Kirby is the type of doctor where, within the first 10 minutes of the meeting, you know you're going to be in excellent hands. Initially, I was apprehensive about getting bunion surgery on my right foot. I'm on my feet 12+hrs for work, and I've been a serious athlete and rock climber for years, so I felt getting any foot surgery would be risky. However, the pain from my bunion was becoming intolerable. I finally had bunion surgery (right foot) in Nov 2022. I'm a little more than 3 months post-op, and thanks to Dr. Kirby, I'm already back to my pre-op activities (climbing, hiking, lifting) with minimal to no-pain, and it feels better every day. I cannot emphasize how important it is to follow his instructions and be diligent about PT. I'm honestly shocked at how quickly and how well I healed, and I'm grateful to Dr. Kirby for that. I really wish more doctors were as easy to talk to as him. Dr. Kirby is very easy-going, accommodating, non-judgmental, and seriously knows his stuff. And the office staff is always so pleasant and kind. All around a great experience and clinic. I'm a patient for life :) read more

Thank you so much Dr. Kirby! I can't say enough about the recommendation he gave me for my arthritic toe! He suggested a shoe by "Hoka", a rocker type shoe. I was walking with a cane and hobbling around....after getting this shoe, I am walking normal again and without pain! Very life changing for me! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! read more

I had bunion surgery by Dr. Kirby five years ago for a bunion I'd had since childhood. Dr. Kirby attended to my problem with a level care and expertise that truly made a difference for me. Twelve years prior, I discussed some worsening foot pain with my primary care doctor who only lamented that young people brought such issues on themselves due to their footwear choices. Hence, I never pursued podiatry care and endured increasing levels of pain. When I was accepted to law school and planning to move to Washington DC, my thoughts focused on how hard it was going to be for me to live in a city where walking and public transit were the norm. So I thought speaking with a podiatrist would at the very least result in orthotics to mitigate the pain. Upon reviewing my x-rays, Dr. Kirby explained how my bones on the foot with the bunion had formed in such a way that predisposed me to having a bunion on that foot. He also explained my surgical option. After surgery, I followed his directions and sure enough, I hit each milestone of recovery when he said I would. Dr. Kirby knows what he is talking about and as a patient, I felt very well cared for. I could not be more pleased with my foot. No more pain. I did feel some stiffness in the joint during those East coast winters the first two years, but that improved and I don't live with any pain anymore. I can even wear cute shoes without writhing in throbbing pain all night anymore. I don't think it is said enough, what a difference it makes for a patient when a doctor avoids shaming. I felt like Dr. Kirby was in my proverbial corner throughout the process; and he armed me with the knowledge I needed in order to take care of my foot and enjoy being pain free. read more

Dr. Kirby was very professional and made me feel as if he not only had knowledge of my issue, but he understood the complications that came with it. He was thorough when explaining the steps in my healing process. His staff is very friendly and the office was clean and cozy. I'm glad I went here and recommend Dr. Kirby to others. read more

Just the like vacuum, he sucks well. Screw this guy. Went in due to high arches and was recommended by my podiatrist to give Kirby a visit. Said he makes great orthotics and definitely will help with my situation. Went there with high hopes and excited that I could get some relief/ help with my feet issues. Knowing that this may not be a 100% improvement, but anything over 70% would be awesome!! Upon meeting Kirby, first thing out of his mouth is, you don't like you runs "marathons or ever ran one before". Really dude? So the sny-insults about my weight kept on rolling out of his mouth. So in hopes of me not being a bigger asshole than him, because I needed the orthotics, I kept my cool. Upon receding them, $360 later, the cork and fabric wore down after a months of use. I workout and work in ER. At this time, $75 to have the fabric and cork put on again. Long story short, i now have $360 door stoppers (no lie) and took a bunch off insults from a jackass, arrogant, SOB. I went back to podiatry and asked them to quit referring patients to this guy. I don't recommend this guy purely on the fact that he's a jackass and bedside manner is crap. Plus, the orthotics didn't do anything and he forgot to raise up my left side a little higher than right due to differences in height between legs. read more

I have suffered for years with plantar fasciitis and heel spurs on both feet. I've had several rounds on cortisone injections over the years with only some relief. I'm now pain free. Dr. Kirby used a combo of cortisone injections, custom orthodics and suggested home treatments. I wasn't very hopeful but Dr. Kirby has made the most improvement in my feet of all the doctors I've seen. It took a little while for him to make my orthodics so he suggested an over the counter brand in the interim, I brought them in and Dr. kirby modified them for me. My feet feel great!!! It's so wonderful for that pain to be gone. Thank you Dr.Kirby :) read more

My Kaiser sports medicine doctor recommended Dr. Kirby. At my appointment he asked me "why are you here?" and did not bother to read my intake form which explained, in detail, the tendon injury I had. I found his attitude extremely rude, arrogant, condescending and chauvinistic. Kirby would ask me questions but cut me off and not allow me to explain or finish my sentences. He spoke to me as though I was highly inept and the prognosis he gave was exceptionally negative. Kirby stated that I might need surgery (which is something that I had not heard from any of my three Kaiser doctors, which also includes my sports med doc). In the running world everyone raves about him and his "clinics," which gave me great hope to resolve my condition so I could eventually resume running. He also "rushed" through my appointment. If Yelp had a "no star" category that is how I would rate this podiatrist. I deeply regret wasting time off from work + $90 for a brief appointment from a rude, insensitive individual. On my own I am doing exercises and getting stronger everyday. My Kaiser podiatrist advised that I can begin to run again if I am not in pain. read more

I am grateful to have found Dr. Kirby after interviewing at least 4 other foot surgeons. I am a retired Nurse Practitioner with problem bunions, and complicated spine issues ( fusions), along with history of polio. Dr. Kirby is the only Doc who integrated my full ortho history with his assessment for my problem foot, then mapped out his surgical approach with that in mind. His comprehensive evaluation was what I was seeking- it convinced me that Dr. Kirby was the right surgeon, and allowed me to move ahead with bunion surgery. Dr. Kirby pursued specialty training in Biomechanics; the other foot surgeons I had interviewed clearly did not, which is why I was immediately drawn to Dr. Kirby at my first appointment with him. In fact, Dr. Kirby lectures on Foot Biomechanics internationally. Now three months post-surgery, my foot is doing well, and I am so pleased that I had the procedure done. Driving 90 minutes to Sacramento from Berkeley was well worth it, to have access to a top professional like Dr. Kirby. He is a caring professional; he took the time to respond to my emails and calls during the recuperation, despite his busy schedule. His staff is excellent and responsive as well; they reflect the nature of Dr. Kirby's approach and practice standards. I am now contemplating similar surgery on my other foot; when I am ready, I will not hesitate to return to Dr. Kirby in Sacramento, rather than have the procedure here in the SF Bay Area. read more

I have made several visits to Doctor Kirby for cracked heels covered by Workers Compensation, and other foot issues. I find Doctor Kirby to be very knowledgeable, and informative. Dr. Kirby is a podiatrist with years of experience, who I feel very comfortable with. His staff is very friendly and low key. Dr. Kirby has ample parking for patients off of Scripp's Drive. As far as podiatrists go, I feel he is as, or more qualified then all the other podiatrists in the area. read more

Four months ago Dr. Kirby performed a bunionectomy on both of my feet. Throughout the process, he was very patient with me and answered my numerous questions, even when he had answer the same questions at a prior appointment. I could not be more pleased with the result and only wish I had seen Dr. Kirby sooner. I would recommend Dr. Kirby to anyone in need of a podiatrist. read more

I saw Dr Kirby for some new orthotics and he is the best Dr. around. I read a negative comment about him and just have to say that he is very funny and really doesn't pull punches when making a reference to feet. If they are messed up he will let you know what to do to ease the pain but lets face it, we do not go to a Podiatrist because we have perfect feet. We go because we need help. If you want a tremendous Podiatrist then go to Dr. Kirby. The office staff are top notch as well. Just an all around professional experience read more

I am ten days out after having a both bunions removed. I waited a long time to have the surgery because I had heard it involved a lot of pain and time off work. Dr. Kirby must have pulled off a miracle, because at this point I am walking without crutches and have been off painkillers since 2 days after surgery. As an extra-added bonus, my feet are actually pretty. Yay Dr. Kirby! read more

I saw Dr. Kirby over ten years ago because I had injured my feet, and was unable to walk long distances without pain. He took moulds of my feet, observed my walking style, and created custom orthotics for my shoes. Happily, the pain completely disappeared, and I've since been able to enjoy walking again. I recently visited his office again to have my orthotic refreshed, and to order another one. Dr. Kirby is very dedicated and knowledgeable. He answered my questions, and spent a reasonable amount of time with me. It's obvious that he loves his work. Even his office is decorated with interesting orthopedic themed antiques. read more

I visited Dr Kirby under the recommendation of my Kaiser Podiatrist. Dr Kirby has developed a reputation for his expertise in foot biomechanics and orthotics. While my visit was intended to have him look at my foot after having fractured my cuboid bone, Dr Kirby spent no more than 2-3 minutes looking at my foot, discussing the issue of the healing of the break and ongoing pain. His immediate recommendation was for custom orthotics, without having a clue as to why he was recommending them. I would expect such a prosthetic device be designed within the context of knowledge of an injury or biomechanical problem. Dr. Kirby appears to be in business for his orthotics only and his medical approach is more of a salesman. If he were to spend enough time to investigate my foot problem, I would be confident in his orthotics. But his hard sell of an expensive product without real medical knowledge as to why he is prescribing them makes me leery of his business and medical focus. I'll look for someone who uses his custom orthotic methodologies before letting him make them for me. read more

I had developed a very large growth on my plantar fascia..Went to an Orthopedic Dr. and was told that there was a 60% change the growth would return after surgery. I left feeling very discouraged, and could not continue to have this lump on my foot. I was given Dr. Kirby's name, and from the first moment he let me know that this was fixable! And fix it he did, there is a 3" scar that you cannot even see, and he came to my home to remove the drainage tube, "who does that anymore?"...he is an incredible Doctor, I have and will always refer my friends, anyone to this man. Let me preface my remarks by saying that I am currently entering my 38th year of Coaching Track and Cross Country and have seen many feet and had experience with many foot problems. In the greater Sacramento area we are fortunate to have a Podiatrist with the Experience and Knowledge that Dr. Kirby has. As a patient, Dr. Kirby treated me for severe Plantar issues and I am able to run 30+ mins. pain free because of his recommendations. He was thorough in his analysis and answered every question I had. I know several other Coaches, people who deal with MANY athletes/injuries who have worked with Dr. Kirby and have heard nothing but good things. He is not a magician, but he is knowledgeable and competent. D. Harms read more

I'm so thankful to Dr. Kirby for fixing a botched surgery on my Achilles Tendon and spur done by another doctor. When I had surgery done by the first doctor, it never healed properly, the scar looks really bad and I suffered with worse foot pain than before the surgery. Thank goodness I found Dr. Kirby!! He tried other means to see if I could get relief before ever discussing a second surgery. When we finally discussed a second surgery, he wanted me to take the time to think about it because he was sensitive to the downtime and pain I would have to go through for the second time. Its unfortunate that I had to go through a second surgery, but it was the best decision I made and well worth it. He did an amazing job!!! My foot feels so much better and I'm actually going through the healing process faster, my downtime was less than the first and the scar is was minimal compared to the first scar I got from the surgery done by the other doctor. If your looking for a top notch surgeon with knowledge and skills, I highly recommend Dr. Kirby especially if you were botched like I was. read more

Three months ago (May 2014), Dr. Kirby performed double Bunionectomy surgery on my feet. I'm thrilled with the results and highly recommend Dr. Kirby to anyone who is in need of the services of a top notch podiatrist/surgeon. I was recommended to Dr. Kirby from a fellow patient at my Chiropractor's office. I was in need of orthotics for a knee issue that I had been dealing with for many years. I was able to easily make an appointment and was in to see him in a couple of weeks. Other than the office needing a bit of an update, it was a very pleasant experience. He custom fit me for orthotics after taking a look at my feet as well as how I ran/walked. A few weeks later my orthotics came in and I have been so much happier ever since! They have changed a lot about how I walk and my knee inflammation as well as minor foot pain are essentially gone. I even just went in again to order another pair of orthotics for my dress shoes. Everyone at Dr. Kirby's office is kind and professional and I would recommend him to anyone in need of orthotics. The orthotics are expensive (just the nature of custom fit versions), but they are worth every penny! read more

I saw Dr. Kirby because of pain in my heel. My primary care doctor had done an x-ray and found a heel spur. Dr. Kirby was running about 45 minutes behind and I saw him in the late afternoon. Clearly, he was annoyed and in a hurry. I have custom orthotics. He looked at them and told me they were structurally OK, but could use a little more padding, but he did not have time to do it. He never watched me walk or run. He touched my foot on the sore spot and then proceeded to get angry with me because I told him I had run the day before. The heel did not hurt when I started the run. He also told me that I looked good for my age, but that I was "getting up there." I am 64 and in excellent health. When he inquired about the history of the pain, he would not let me finish a sentence without interrupting me. He told me not to run for two weeks and to make another appointment with him. He gave me NO way to deal with the heel pain or lessen it with stretches, icing, or meds. I actually had to ask him if I should ice it, take ibuprofen, or stretch it. His answer was, "Yea." He read me the riot act about not running because I would end up with something far worse if I continued. In short, he did absolutely nothing for me. I felt pressured into making the return appointment, but I called and canceled it the next morning. I called the sports podiatrist who had made my orthotics two years ago, even though he is a distance away. I saw him and got a completely different attitude and advice. He adjusted my orthotics while I was there and made numerous recommendations, and also took the time to get out a model of the foot and show me what was going on. He assured me this was common and would get better, and encouraged me to continue being active and to call him if I didn't get resolution. Wow! Somehow had told me that Dr. Kirby specialized in sports podiatry, so I decided to see him because he is much closer than the other doctor. What a waste of my time! Never again! read more

I was referred to Dr. Kirby by my Kaiser podiatrist for custom orthotics for treatment of plantar fasciitis. Every time I asked him a question about my condition or the solution, his pat answer was "I've done this over 15,000 times in my career". Well, sorry to inconvenience you, but this is my first time. I found him to be rude, arrogant and patronizing. I've spoken with one other female patient who had the same opinion. The verdict is uncertain if this is how he treats all patients or just women. I'm also still uncertain if these custom $350 orthotics will be of any help because he simply says "You'll get used to them". I would not recommend him to anyone. This review shows one star because they won't let you post zero stars. read more

Just completed my 2 month post-op appointment. Had a bunionectomy procedure at Mercy in Elk Grove after having years of pain. I had tried corrective inserts, toe spacers and even a plastic splint with no relief. I am a runner so I opted for surgery as the pain was just too much to continue. The staff at the hospital was great, I was in and out in a few hours. Have been walking regularly for a month now and just yesterday walked 4 miles with no discomfort. I am hoping to begin my running routine after month 3. So glad I decided to do this. read more

Was in a terrible work accident and I destroyed my ankle and foot. Kaiser did their best to piece me together but ultimately I needed a specialist and surgeon. I was referred to Dr kirby's office for a consultation and opinion on future care and surgery. I gotta say I was scared. After Kaiser repeatedly told me we did the best we could but are unable to do anymore, I was devastated. Dr kirby is a very soft spoken gentleman who asks questions and actively listens to your concerns. I was given both sides of the spectrum with straight forward answers I understood. He was not only interested in just the now but my future care as well. He helped me navigate through the bureaucracy of worker's comp to make sure I got what I needed. Unfortunately I will have my issue for the rest of my life but at least I'm as comfortable as possible. In my opinion if you need a podiatrist there's no better choice. read more

I found my way to Dr. Kevin Kirby after suffering for five years from the effects of badly done bunion surgery by another doctor. Dr. Kirby immediately recognized the problem & offered some temporary relief by modifying my orthotics & recommending better shoes. Several months later Dr. Kirby performed surgery to fuse the joint of my big toe & repair a hammertoe in my 2nd toe. Before surgery he meticulously explained the procedures & the recovery process. His office staff efficiently guided me through the pre-surgery requirements. On the day of surgery, Dr. Kirby took the time to reassure me & answer my questions. He called me at home after surgery to see how I was doing. In all my post-op visits, Dr. Kirby took time to closely assess my healing & discuss how I felt about my recovery. My healing has gone extremely well, & I was able to walk in regular shoes much sooner expected. My experience with Dr. Kirby is vastly superior to that with my previous podiatrist. Dr. Kirby is clearly very, very skilled, dedicated to excellent patient care & achieves great results. I am so grateful to have found him. read more

Kaiser referred me to Kevin Kirby and he did not listen at all to my complains. He made me orthotics and after three weeks I still do not have any improvement. When I went in for the check up and tell him, he did not listen to me at all. He told me that I was doing much better, although my pain has not subsided. So disappointed. I just want to live without pain as I did with my old orthotics when they were new. He also chastised me for trying to run when he had previously told me (when I first got the orthotics-three weeks ago) that I should. read more

I dealt with heel pain on and off for years, but recently I could no longer contain it with ice, anti-inflammitories and rest. I realized I was limping even when I walked, and running was a painful chore. I went to Dr. Kirby because of his reputation among local athletes and because he's a runner. I knew his answer wouldn't be "Don't run." After a few months of trying an anti-inflammatory gel and a boot, we opted for surgery. He pulled four pumpkin seed-sized bone spurs from my heel and had to detach my Achilles tendon to get to one of them. Following his instructions, my six month recovery to run again was reduced to four. It no longer hurts to walk, and five months after surgery, I'm running nearly three miles two or three times a week. The next goal is to race the Thanksgiving 10K less than eight months after surgery. I can't recommend Dr. Kirby highly enough if you're an athlete who isn't ready to stop running. read more
