I am so sad that this place closed. This was the absolute best restaurant in Meadville, and had the most delicious and interesting food in all the area. I am not sure as to why they closed, but there is now a big void in the local food scene. The last time I ate there was June 4th, and something did seem a little off. The food felt a little different, as did the vibe. There had been no closing announcements on their social media pages, but I found out after the fact from the Meadville Market House that they were closed. What a blow!!! read more

Never had any bad experiences at Kettle Lake!!! This was certainly my favorite restaurant in Meadville while attending college here. The variety and taste profile of food here is like no other in the area (or around it). I love the vegetarian options (can opt any meat for tofu, mushrooms) and had a great experience with the owner who made my food with chicken by accident. He quickly fixed my meal and apologized. I can't say enough good about this place and miss it already after graduating this year. I have heard rumors that they're closing soon so GO CHECK THEM OUT before they close!! read more

Just had a fab dinner from this cute place! We're in town to pop stuff into our storage unit for the first time. We really needed dinner - to go. This place gets such good reviews and buys local for its menu, we just had to try it. The place gives off funky warehouse vibes. Not a ton of seating. There were 2 tables full of younger college age kids. Two people were running the open kitchen, one cooking and packing up takeout orders, it seemed. Guessing that person was also waiting tables. I picked the best meal -- the Chimi bowl. YUM. The garlic aioli mixed in with the chimichurri to create a rich sauce over the black beans, rice, avocado, pickled onion and pepper with juicy grilled (griddled?) chicken. The plantains were a bit strange -- kind of dry (I thought maybe they were plantain chips!). My husband got the cheddar burger which he said was tasty though nothing super special. The fries were good but too salty. All in all, though, a very good experience. read more

On my way back from Buffalo, NY (yes, the other parts of NY, not NYC), I stopped for lunch at Kettle Lake Kitchen. It is a nice little place with good food. I had the Mango Chicken Salad, and the dressing was pureed mango. It was very delicious. The atmosphere was great, as it was in the back of an over 100 year old market building. The only reason I gave four out of five, they don't have a drink selection for diabetics other than water. They have a selection of beer and ale, and super sweetened seltzer water, but nothing that is sugar free. If I am in the area again, I may or may not stop by. read more

I called 4 times during the hours that the phone message claimed they were open, then I messaged them on Facebook and they replied and said that they were opening later than their normal hours today. Inconsistent information across their social media, website, and phone message. Also, they ignored my question, which is rude. If you're opening later on a day, that's fine, things happen, but perhaps you could use your social media to announce that? Simple actions that when not followed suggest poor management. read more

Cute and trendy vibe, exposed ceilings, lo-fi playlist, and a great location. Its attached to a shop with multiple artisan stands to browse through. It's definitely a fresh feel in a small town. Healthy soups, bowls, sandwiches and entrees. I had the ginger fried tofu bowl with kale and carrots over rice, it was delicious! There are both vegan and meat options available. BEST hidden restaurant in western PA. Seriously wish that I had discovered this place sooner. Refreshing menu with exceptional flavor all in a casual and historic setting. It's hard to find such a diverse menu that offers such incredible menu items outside of the cities. Do yourself a favor and stop in Meadville and seek this place out - it's worth the drive and/or worth a quick detour on your way between Pittsburgh/Erie. Excellent food. We have come here a few times passing by Meadville on our way to Erie. Creative and interesting combinations that are really tasty. Also plenty of outdoor seating so great place to grab a casual bite if you have pets and toddlers like us. Going to Kettle Lake Kitchen is a wonderful experience because your needs are heard and attended to. When I ordered to make the Banh Mi sandwich vegan, all aspects of that request were considered. The person making it asked if I wanted them to swap the fish sauce with a BBQ sauce in consideration that I ordered it vegan. They also used regular sriracha instead of spicy mayonnaise. Though these seem like minor changes, the attention to detail to ensure a customer's needs are met is exemplary! As for the flavor, it was phenomenal! The bread was very fresh and soft, so I recommend trying the baguette as Kettle Lake Kitchen gets theirs from bakeries. I'll definitely be returning for more spicy dishes and salads, although I'm sure you can't go wrong ordering here :) read more

3 1/2 stars rounded up! I ordered take out using their website about 15 minutes before heading over to pick up, figuring we could at least get our order started before arriving. On the website, there is no option to specify a pick up time, only that it will be ready before they close. When we got there, things seemed very disorganized despite being an hour into their opening for the day. I checked in at the register and they had a receipt for my pick up order sitting out but had not started on it yet. We were looking to add soup on to our order but the cashier let us know that the soups written on the board were not available that day after asking multiple employees in the kitchen. After waiting for another 10-15 minutes, we were told our order was ready. The take out bag seemed heavier than it should and we realized this was not our order but another woman who had come in shortly after us for pick up as well and went through the same experience. After another 5 minutes, we finally had the correct order. We had a banh mi, maple bowl, and chimichurri steak sandwiches. All tasted great but both sandwiches were on the smaller side and came with a very small bag of about 10 French fries. The flavors in these small portions were fantastic though. My maple bowl was a larger portion but really seemed to be a lot of quinoa with only a little bit of other ingredients in it. How long it took for us to get our food and how disorganized everything was despite 4 employees working with only 2 customers, definitely had us hoping for outstanding food to counteract the not great experience. We would definitely try here again in the future if we were passing through and hope that they just had an off day with service! read more

A true gem. I ordered the Street Beef and my fiance ordered the Poke Bowl. Then we split the Lions Mane cakes to split. The Lions Mane cakes felt like a truly original recipe and were tasty. Spicy mayo drizzle really added the kick I wanted. I particularly loved the Street Beef over rice. It felt like a Brazilian/Chinese fusion entree and I was quite full after eating 2/3 of it, which for me is saying something. Ended on a high note with a delicious Raspberry Lemon kombucha. They really sell themselves on original recipes that use local ingredients where possible and this shows. High quality food that has no equal in this area. This place is insane. It was good at the old location, but it is just outta this world now. It's out of the ordinary for northwest PA, so know that going in. Also know that there may be an initial sticker shock, but you are getting really good food, and a lot of it. Definitely a value.
