When you think of a retirement community you may be one of the people that thinks of a sad place where people are put to be forgotten. That's certainly not the case at all with Edenwald. It felt like a bustling community to me. More than once I thought "I wouldn't mind ending up at a place like this someday." Security wise there is a person manning the front desk at all hours of the day. Ask that person for the guest Wi-Fi password. There is a lobby where you can sit and wait for people where there is also a gift store. I didn't see it but apparently they have a fitness center and pool here. On the activity board they have a listing of all the activities that are taking place on site. They also offer multiple day trips to interesting sites around the area. If you don't want to drive to do errands they will take you places such as Trader Joe's. They have multiple restaurants on site. I got to sample two of them. One of them was a casual cafeteria. The other one was what we called "the pub", which serves alcohol. There is also a fancy pants restaurant across from the pub, but they enforce a dress code. I wasn't doing backflips over the food, but it was much better than I expected and I enjoyed my meals. I thought the nicest thing about the living quarters was that once you go inside and close your door it just feels like an apartment. You have a fully stocked kitchen, which is nice. Even though you have your privacy there are ways in the bathroom and bedroom to alert the staff that you need help. All the amenities in the world wouldn't matter if the people weren't treated right. I have to say I was constantly interacting with friendly people. Multiple times on the elevator the residents would be cracking me up. One man told me that he hoped I wasn't going to the 25th floor because that was his private penthouse. If you have an aging relative who wants their independence but could use the safety/security of assisted-living I can't think of a better place then Edenwald.

True, parking is tight but, I took care of that by giving up my car. In the case of necessary travel to doctors appointments there is free door to door service. In normal times we can go on bus trips as far as NYC to films, opera, concerts, etc for a nominal fee. I have never seen or smelled anything bad in the dining room. On the rare occasion when a resident had an accident it was promptly and expertly cleaned up. I have never smelled anything bad. As far as the lobby staff being snotty and condescending nothing could be further from the truth. On one day, when my wife and I moved, in everybody on the staff knew us by name. In fact, I think we are coddled too much sometimes. And tipping is not allowed. At first glance the prices to buy in and the monthly maintenance fees seem pricey, but considering the great number of services and amenities it is it is really pretty much of a bargain. And there is even a fund that guarantees that if you run out of money, thur no fault of your own, you will, not be kicked out. Management rates an A+ in its efforts to keep us health in this time of Covid19 A very important intangible point, that can only be experienced by living here, is the friendship of the other residents. We have an a incredible mix of academics and professionals who are not only very friendly people who are also a joy to talk to and live with. The staff bends over backwards to accommodate in every possible way! They are even not only making it possible to have our unit reconfigured, but they are actively working with the architectural and engineering staff to do the best they can to fulfill our requests. Roland Park Place's activities, programs and events are a dizzying array of intellectual, cultural, health-building, recreational and travel opportunities par excellence. Once an apartment is reserved, the future residents are welcome to take advantage of all activities, programs, and trips. Already, we feel like we are joining a very close-knit family. We recently attended a posh reception that RPP sponsored to introduce us to many other future residents. While many current residents have aged beautifully in place having, however, slowed down quite a bit, we met lots of future residents who are vibrant, colorful, bright, interesting very active folks, many of whom bonded very quickly, discovering that we had many, many things in common. I can NOT imagine another place in which I'd like to spend my remaining years!!! A-AND I can NOT wait to move in. If you have any interest at all in a vibrant, fully alive, stimulating, convivial and beautiful retirement community, I urge you to visit Roland Park Place. I was treated like family here. I felt so comfortable, talking to my therapist 3x a week and my psychiatrist every day. Everyone on this unit had DID except for me but I was never made to feel left out or different, and the treatment was never geared away from me. I made good friends and felt like I was finally understood. Another thing I noticed, if you go somewhere like here you obviously have to be ready to do some work. There were times when I considered my psychiatrist to be the biggest jerk in the world, when I hated the food (other times when I loved it) when I felt like I was being pushed or the staff was being mean (they weren't , they are mental health professionals and know what's good for you). They would wake me up in the morning by yelling at me and I wish someone would have kicked my bed! It's a mental hospital not a vacation. The staff was so good there I felt like I could talk to any of them easily. The only bad thing was that we had just moved floors and we didn't have any art therapy or physical exercise to speak of. Just two medium length hallways to walk up and down which got old really quick. Unfortunately when I got home I had another really bad round of depression hit so I will be going back soon. This time I'm looking forward to it. The Trauma Unit saves lives. I would recommend it to anyone struggling.

I am leaning towards 28 now. I can't remember a lot of my life anymore, but I remember here. The brain remembers trauma to try and make sure you don't get stuck in it again. I will recall the name "Sheppard Pratt" until my body has turned into bone in the ground. It has made me unable to go anywhere for help in fear I will end up back in a place like this again. This has impacted my abilities to get help for the rest of my life. I genuinely was misdiagnosed and sent here, and it almost killed me. I have still not fully recovered and have haunted memories. They will LIE to you. LIE to the parents. They told my parents I would die if they did not check me in, lied to them about conditions, capabilities, and truly is a hell on earth. They don't mention you must request 72 hours in advance to try and get your kid back, by the way, and will lie to get someone admitted and exaggerate their well-being or lack of to scare someone into signing away their child's soul in the name of salvation. They informed my parents that they could handle my panic attacks, nope, they won't do anything. The staff may even make fun of you depending on who it is. They are not equipped to handle emotions and it feels like you're in the Stamford Prison Experiment. You are no longer human. You are something less than. Do you like needles? You have a fear of them, you say? Don't worry, you will have your blood drawn every day! Don't worry, you aren't allowed to stand. Research said refeeding syndrome can happen, for a few weeks, but you're not allowed to move ever. Also it only happens to genuine starved anorexics, but now you are that, plus all the other ED's because they treat you like you are guilty of every crime there! Innocent? NO YOU ARE NOT! Why? BECAUSE WE SAY SO! Get ready to be the toys in Toy Story and lie lifeless on the floor with the light gone from your eyes! That happens to people that are there longer. You will be deprived, ignored, punished, embarrassingly lead around in a paper gown naked and rushed to a two-few minute shower and led to where you are all weighed every single day. I saw a new hire nurse hold back tears over how we were all being treated. Ready yourself for speed eating because they will make you cram your food in faster since 30 minutes starts whether you got your food with then minutes left to until it's over, you'll be threatened with ensure. Yes it WILL be ice cold even if it's a warm meal! But eat it because they're watching. Always watching. Want to mention the food? Even to people at your table? TROUBLE! BAD! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT FOOD! How will this impact you positively? HAH, no it won't. You may need therapy to get over it and will forever hate people observing you while you eat. Why? Because before it came with threats! No one wants the tube up their nose! They will get the tube. I have shared my experience there with people who have been in prison and they rather pick prison. They will take everything you could ever think about harming yourself with so much that it taught me a ton of ways I could off myself- which said feeling will come for you if you're in there. Once you are out of the spot they show parents in, you'll notice that all doors and windows are unable to be opened because of how many suicide attempts they get in there. Death did seem sweeter than being there. A part of me lives there as a ghost. I didn't come out with all of myself. I have gone through a lot of traumatizing things, but would sooner hold the dying and bloody again while and do my own stitches again 200 times before going back there, unless I was going with a torch or a bulldozer. That was the worst decision I ever trusted anyone on in my young life. I rather run into my rapist than go back to that Hell Hotspot. I mean it. This was more damaging and humiliating. Don't trust them. I filled a document with 41 pages of their reviews before I decided to stop. All 1 star.
